Petition for 3/5 match tournament fights for MVC3/UMVC3

It seems the consensus among some tournament organizers was that 3/5 wasn’t worth the return investment…but after watching Curleh Mustache it’s just so obvious that the game as crazy as it is makes more sense 3/5. Less game sets that are won on the momentum of 2 for ones and XF BS etc. Players get to feel each other out more and you get to see more of where a player’s strength and weaknesses are and not just the stray touches they get into huge combos.

They say they’re going to be doing a monthly open event for Curleh Mustache soon so hopefully if that also adopts a 3/5 match set up and runs well we can adopt this more often for other tourneys. Even if it’s just like top 8 3/5 at least the people that make up there will have a better grind and win their sets less on swings.

Curleh Mustache was hype but I still think 3/5 isn’t going to work for majors. Curleh mustache is an invitational with the best players. Majors are 5 rounds of good players beating on scrubs, and we don’t need to add an extra game to each one of those matches.

Save it for top 8/top 16

Yeah I’m down for the at least the top set of the bracket being less about people swinging shit and getting pay off.

Just leaving my 2 cents as a tournament director.

3 out of 5 is obviously the way to go, and generally matches in MvC3 are over very quickly. A tournament that wants to use 3/5 the whole way, however, needs to make sure they budget their time correctly. I will try to make this happen at UFGT8, but I can’t make any promises at this time.

Just do it for top 8

3/5 for a game that hasn’t came out yet that is supposed to rectify these issues yall have? Vanilla damage was high too, yet I didn’t see American tournies being pressured into 3/5 rounds.

curleh mustache is a high roller invite only tourney, not a major

3/5, at the very least.

1 bad call often loses you a game (with happy bday). In SF you make a big misread, you eat maybe 40-50% of your life, in a single round out of a possible 3 rounds in a game, 6 rounds in a standard set. Marvel, you can guess wrong on opening and the game is instantly over. (1 round/2 games a set). I’ve seen back-to-back BOGOs, in tourney, shit is so salt inducing and not truly indicative of overall skill, rather just the player making a single costly mistake at the wrong moment and getting raped by Marvel damage.

top 8 gets 3/5 AND winners/losers finals in pools.

have to at least get to top spot in pools to get a 3/5.

this seems best imho as skill level difference should be more than enough to keep players that should make it to top 8 to NOT get bogo’d and lose to lesser players.

once at pool finals (both sides plus pools GF) the skill level difference shouldnt be as large, and there it will matter more that some random shit doesnt bump off the overall better player.

then leave that reasoning behind simply for time constraints for the next tournament that consists of pools winners and the runner ups, till it gets to top 8 then reinstate 3/5 again for all of top 8.

dont want to lose in the dog eat dog world of 2/3 's… get better and make it to the top of your pools and then make it into top 8.

all i gotta say is 2/3 is better than one match.

I thought Curleh Moustache proved this was a pretty good idea. A lot of matches went to 2 - 0 only to end with a 2 - 3 comeback. I think that says something. And it didn’t take that long either.

Point is, 2 matches straight can be a fluke, but 3 wins in a row has less chance of being luck of the draw.

Top 32 at least should be 3 out of 5.

3/5 sounds fine for the sweet 16. This is fine as opposed to risking dragging on a tourney via top 32, or not giving enough of the top dogs a shot at elite 8

It’s marvel. The ones who survive the gauntlet should be allowed a chance to collect themselves.

Noticed this too, and for me, this created even more hype than 2 and out

Let’s see how Ultimate plays and then address this issue

I have changed my opinion 3/5 allows for more ads to be played, so therefore its good. The more ads the better.

Kinda want to change my response now. I thought that 3/5 would put a big drain on the players after a while, but it didn’t seem to. Waiting is the best option, I think.

It can’t put too much of a drain when the matches go quick as fuck. I’m still wondering WTF happened in a 2/3 match of this game half the time. 3/5 you see more of your own and other people’s mistakes and people play less feely and balls to the wall. Players tend to give each other a bit more respect and worry about each other’s spacing once they realize what the other is trying to do with their team.

The matches in this game are like rounds in SF. Nobody gets drained from rounds of SF. LOL.

Yeah, this is the main reason I’m now vouching for 3/5. Though it sounds scrubby, there are tons of matches where I think to myself, “If the match went on a little longer, [Player] could’ve beaten [Other Player]. He was starting to catch on to the other guy’s antics.” I’m sure it’s frustrating for the players especially.

I’m all for 3/5. I can’t tell you how many times i’ve been playing online (In both ranked and player matches) and i’ve lost two fights against someone and then come back and won 3 or more in a row. I personally need more than 1 fight to learn how another player fights, and i’m sure other players do too.

Of course, i’m a scrub. I mean, look at my avatar! Still would be nice to have 3/5 though.

(Opinion is opinion.)

3 out of 5 is what it should be, period.

-players can adapt better to other player’s style of play.

If your saying that matches in marvel take too long, excuse my language but your fucking retarted. I’ve ran a 32 man bracket and the flow was so smooth.

tournament directors need to step up have players play their matches asap, and not dick around. You can complete a 64 man bracket in about 4 hours, 5 MAX, with 3 out of 5 matches. AND THAT’S ASSUMING EVERY GAME GOES TO THE 5TH MATCH, PLAYERS TAKE A SMOKE BREAK, AND ALL OF THE OTHER BULLSHIT THAT TAKES UP TIME BETWEEN MATCHES.

Did Yipes ever say why he made the Curleh Mustache 3/5?

Also, is a 32-man tournament taking about 4.5-5 hours to finish good?
