I’ve been having talks with the owner of Universe Billiards and he is very enthusiastic to hold biweekly or monthly tournaments, and is even willing to invest in extra consoles and televisions sometime down the road if preliminary tournaments work out. He’s not asking for any revenue in return, either. The establishment is huge (it’s a billiards hall) with plenty of seating, and quite comfortable couches. There’s two big screen TVs (not sure what type they are, though). Large, free parking lot in the rear. I’d be willing to bring my PS3 and a copy of whatever game is being played. The question is, who’s willing to travel to Petaluma for potentially stable and a quality/reliable venue tournaments? If so, what game would you most like to see played (until we can expand if it turns out to be a success)? Could you bring setups if necessary? And what time/day of the week would be best for everyone to attend a biweekly?
Universe Billiards is in downtown Petaluma (right off the East Washington exit on the 101), about a 10-15 minute drive from downtown Santa Rosa, a 5-10 minute drive from Cotati/Rohnert Park, a 15-20 minute drive from Novato, and 30-45 minutes from San Francisco.
For the increased traffic in his establishment I might even be able to talk him into discount food/drinks/pool for the players, or even a free pizza/pitcher of soda (or beer if you’re old enough)/free pool for the winners, but there’s no promises on that… yet.
LCD’s and Plasma’s should be avoided unless you’ve done lag tests.
Most players around here have the EVO Asus 23’ Monitor, which has barely noticeable lag. If you want to be safe bringing in non-HD CRT’s (Tube Tv’s) would ensure no lag.
If you play in the North Bay, check out our threads and stop by to introduce yourself.
Hey there Jihnsius. I do some of the tournament/gathering organization in North Bay. I’m gonna PM you my number. Please gimme a call anytime after 7 on any day and maybe we could work something out for future gatherings, tourneys and meet some of the players in the Petaluma area. Name’s Jay.
Projection TV with HDMI input. Could have the semis/finals on it if it works out.
There’s two other LCDs in the building, but those probably wouldn’t be used, we’d encourage others to bring their own setups/TVs if possible.
I only really started playing Tekken a year ago, not a fan of the SF series tbh. Started with Smash Bros Melee and then picked up Guilty Gear/BlazBlue. Is SSF4 the main thing people play in north bay?
Also where’s Starcade at? I’m closer to Scandia, I hear they have BlazBlue, no?
