Persona - Overall thoughts on the game? Players review

It’s my first time ever taking a shot at trying to be competitive in an anime fighter, and to be honest it seemed kind of over whelming. Surprisingly enough after going through the tutorials, checking a couple forums, experimenting in training, and playing casuals with some local players as well as online matches; It just started to “click” in my head.

There are quite a bit of scrub friendly things that may put some people off I guess, like 2 button DPs and Auto combos; but you eventually just get over it. I really doubt anybody is gonna be winning any tournaments with mashing the A button like an idiot.

The online community is pretty scrubby right now, but it’s the same with every new game and people will eventually learn to play correctly. The overall presentation of the game is very well done; from the catchymusic to the amazing sprite work, I feel that the game is very enjoyable to watch. It’s also nice that the combos aren’t too long since it keeps the pace of the match from feeling boring. IMO this game is very well done and it lived up to it’s 60 dollar price tag.

Hopefully the game gets it’s chance at being a main game on streams!

IMO, it P4A does a better job at being a “more accessible GG” than BB ever did. I used to play GG semi-seriously here (up until Slash because our arcades never got AC) but I found that I could never really transition into BB. It’s not just that some mechanics are similar to GG (OMCs, universal sweep, etc.), but there’s a certain feel as well that’s closer to it than in BB.

its fucking amazing… matter of fact it made me watch the anime… and i loved it ten times more. it plays and feels great, newcomers will grasp it very easily, yet it has great depth. so those who are riding the cusp, fuck the negative you have heard and get this shit NAO!

I have to admit, even when you’re losing or winning nonstop, the game keeps you entertained. I don’t think I’ve played one boring match yet. I’m always on the edge of my seat, even with the “scrub” matches as some people are calling them.

Having a blast. Main Game at the moment. 10/10

Love the game so far, the online is relatively smooth and when I do lose, it feels like it’s for legitimate reasons. While some characters might be ‘stronger’, the cast seems very well balanced and fun. The game is also easy to pick up with the Auto-Combo so my non-fighting friends can still have fun with it.

All in all, well done.

From the music, art style, character personalities, single player options, net code, match pacing, move set, and controls theres really not much to dislike about the game apart from getting blown up online… but i havent picked up a capcom fighter (outside of 3S quickie) since i got the game…

i have a feeling its crowd and community will remain strong… and if doesnt… who cares… guess ill be part of the niche “Anime fighter” community

if people stop playing it, it won’t be because of it’s gameplay that’s for certain. it’ll be more for those who lack the skill to keep up. they’ll return to the capcom dinosaur games. a company actually makes a really good fighter and you return to a bad one? can a person be any more dumb? too much tap water. agenda 21 in full swing.

This game is great. Depending on who you decide to start with, the learning curve could be very steep or pretty decent. It will give you a QUICK lesson on blocking high/low.

I haven’t felt a “that was straight up BS,” moment like when BB first came out, but I haven’t quite played high-level players yet haha…

Aside from gameplay, the netcode is fantastic (even “1 bar” connections are more than playable), the game is very polished, as in, feels like it’s actually a FINISHED product, and the source material is also fantastic.

So Justin agrees that the game is closer to GG than BB ever was (so in other words, I’m not delusional when saying the exact same thing).

This game did not feel like BB when i played it so your not crazy. At least in that specific diagnosis anyway

It’s nothing like GG at all and should stop being compared in any way, shape, or form.

And Wong is nowhere close to anyone I’d ask about how something feels compared to GG.

I give the game a 8.5/10 I think its really good everything feels smooth,I love the pace of the game its pretty fast also to me its easy yet faster version of blazblue, hopefully this game doesnt die before evo

yeah, I was right in my post…Ive ended up dropping this game LOL.

oh well, cheers to you guys still playing

Context. In comparison to BB, the game does feel closer to GG, especially with some mechanics clearly inspired or similar to GG mechanics - meter powered cancel (OMC), universal sweep - as well as damage levels are aren’t as low as BB’s “lets do Mugen” levels of low.

BB has RC which is a metered cancel that works just like GG and P4U with 50 meter. Seriously how do you actually know yourself that you don’t just get from others?

I think P4A feels closer to GG then BB to GG.

Ever heard of the words “Rapid Cancel”? Also universal sweep is not really a mechanic, just a convenient way of assigning buttons so that they could free up the second normal attack button.

Because to me it feels more like GG than BB.

I’ll admit though, that I could never get into BB past the first installment (that’s coming from someone who can count his losses in the arcade at GG with one hand). Something just turned me off from the game. Maybe it’s the damage, maybe it the hitstop that lasts for days or the speed or a combination of those. There’s just something that makes me, and a bunch of other folks (including but not limited to Justin Wong) feel that it is closer to GG than BB ever was.

It’s been a good while into it and I must say… for a fighting game in plot wise, it delivers fully and beyond. (I thank the fact that it’s apart of an atlus RPG series for that, though.) The selections through the list, to the challenges, introductions to the game and etc. are amazing. If there’s any gripe I have about all these features, it’s simply that replays have no rewind button yet and they can’t be uploaded online. (Example: 3s0’s Youtube replay upload feature. or IV’s replay area where you can watch recent replays to high ranking ones.)

As for gameplay… I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying it. Gameplay is pretty amazing and it does remind me of GG, despite what some others here are saying. However, I kind of don’t like some mechanics where it’s so easy to do this or that and it gets spammed out. (yosuke’s furious attack, spammed supers, spammed everything, etc.) However, this game really gives you **ALL **the tools to prevent yourself from getting spammed out or finding ways to excel over those mechanics WITH the mechanics and teaches you that there’s more than one road to get to your goal.

It seems once you get out of the low level play, the fog begins to lift and shit doesn’t fly as much. So it doesn’t even feel like I’m playing the same game, while playing it. (If that makes any sense.) And I have to say that it’s a pretty amazing feeling.

I’ve played a good handful of fighting games, but I have to say that this is probably the one that I’ve seen a LARGE difference in player play-style beyond the normal “auto-combing all day” folk.

Like, I know everyone has their certain ticks or manners of how they play a character in any game different, but this game has so much variety, that it feels like every time I’m facing a certain character, it’s obvious that I’m going to be dealing with a lot of different shit, setup wise. And that makes me have to stay on my toes and learn fast to how this or that player works.

I don’t think I’ve honestly felt that in any game to this extent and I must say that it’s an enjoyable feeling.

Mind you, I don’t play BB, so I have no idea what to expect if it truly is anything similar or not.

Overall, I don’t see myself ever putting this game down. This is the only other fighter I seem to play other than third strike. (And I was supposed to get better at KOFXIII, but it looks like I might not ever pick that shit up again, playing this all the time.)
