Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena

I wouldn’t mind Mayo Arena playing like BlazBlue’s Bizarre Adventure.

I didn’t say letting them do whatever they like, but I did say they probably aren’t going to argue with the gameplay design choices Mori comes up with since, to my knowledge, the Persona team has limited experience with fighters. Wouldn’t the whole reason they went to ASW in the first place be to let them make the actual FIGHTING part of it? I mean, from a logical perspective, if they were capable of designing a fighting game they would have just done it themselves, no?

Just because they are working “intimately” doesn’t mean the Persona team is helping design the gamplay, they could be making sure the characters are designed accurately to their games and handling the story while ASW designs the fighting aspect of the game and I would still consider that working intimately.

It’s ASW’s job to mold the game into a proper fighting game, yes, but that doesn’t mean they would have full control over every aspect of the fighting game mechanics. For example if Arc would want to basically make it Blazblue with Persona characters but Atlus would prefer it resembled something more like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure I’m quite sure that the latter would win out, unless for some reason ASW didn’t believe they could handle doing something like that.

Development doesn’t have to just be a one-sided thing though. The fact that this is a joint project more than likely means that they’re both collaborating in the development process. They would both throw out ideas for what they might like to see in the game and then eventually come to an agreement between what they want to see and what ASW believes will actually work.

Even if ASW wanted something similar to Jojo’s all that would really mean is that Mori could make it Blazblue with Stands. When people complain that the game could end up like Blazblue they mean a lot of the small details, like shitty throws, too much neutral game, slow gameplay, and all of the intricate details the Persona team most likely wouldn’t understand. A couple mechanics like Persona stands wouldn’t really change the flow of the game or how effective certain tools are, and that is what most people are afraid of being ruined.

Perhaps, but my initial response was aimed at the guy who posted before me who was speaking about much broader aspects of Blazblue. Those who specifically hate those intricate details about Blazblue could very well end up disappointed, yes, but then I personally think Blazblue handled most of that fine, so…

Well I personally didn’t care for how Blazblue played, so I’m cautiously excited for this game. As much as I’d love to play a Persona fighting game, seeing what happened with Blazblue and the current trend of fighters, I could very well be unsatisfied with how this game turns out. Can’t wait to see some gameplay footage so we can get some kind of feel for the game, because right now the handful of screenshots don’t really tell us anything.

surprised how people keep pointing about ArcSys’ last title but forgot that the very first Guilty Gear was published by Atlus.

This is like paying homage to an 10+ year history in 2d fighter history.

either way, I just may support this game solely on that fact so maybe, just maybe, I’ll get to finally NEGRO INSTALL in HD.

Published doesn’t mean anything other than they helped it get produced. Atlus is also publishing KoFXIII, but they really didn’t have anything to do with the actual game itself.

This is pointless because we don’t even know Atlus’ intentions with the game from a gameplay standpoint. All we do know is that Atlus went to ArcSys to help them with creating a Persona fighting game. The fact that Atlus are working closely with them (even assuming for gameplay reasons), doesn’t wholly mean that it will be much different from Blazblue. When you factor in that Atlus doesn’t have experience with creating fighters and the fact that it’s Mori, concerns about the game being like Blazblue (or rather, fundamental decisions of why people dislike Blazblue) are justified. But that also doesn’t mean that the game will play like Blazblue, or be flawed like Blazblue either - with Atlus’ involvement or not.

In short, we just need to wait. We’ll know for sure which direction the game will be heading in, because i’d doubt it would be hard to pridicte how Mori will shape the game once we see some videos and read some reports about the gameplay.

I don’t think he was trying to point out about Atlus’ involvement with any of the fighters. Simply that Atlus and ArcSys share history, so logically they would call to them when they decided they would make a fighter.

Atlus does share history with other fighting game companies though.

Damn Fox better be in! Hes a greedy bastard!

heh, neither did Capcom or Sega.

so, how is it that a team can make HnK and SBX while both games neither played like GGX then throw BB back into the mix Still, 4 games that played nothing alike but were made by practically the same team. It’s almost like thinking before SF4 had came out people were hoping that it was going to play like a mix of 3s and Project Justice… but that’s Ono/ Crapcom were talking about.

But seriously, wait till next year/ next summer then we can see for our selves that this game will deliver— with or without Persona team’s help.

this.

Their only involvement was with Atlus USA publishing it though, which is kind of separate from the development team at Atlus Japan.

See, there’s one big difference between those games though that can be described in one word: Mori. Of course we’re going to have to wait to see how things turn out, but it’s not like fear is unwarranted.

ITT: Stealth bitching about BlazBlue.

TGS can’t come any sooner. I can’t wait to see the game in action mainly so everyone can have an actual reason to bitch.

Agreed. I also agree with the sentiment that we’re probably going to get a game that leans more towards the realm of fanservice and being an easy game to play, rather than actively seeking out to be a “deep” fighting game. If nothing else, that’s likely going to be the main (re: only) way to get the majority of the Persona demographic to even give the game a shot.

And honestly, I don’t have a problem with that, as long as the game is fun. Not unlike Jojo before it (which, too, was crafted largely as a “fanservice” project, first and foremost).

as far as i know mori is not related to this project, the fighting game director of bb is the one that is related to the project

and this doesnt necesarily means that they are gonna play alike, it all depends on what are the aproach that they want to take with the game and how its played

I wouldn’t call it stealthy at all…

Definitely would like to see some footage for this. I’m curious how these Personas pan out, whether it’s like Arcanas from Arcana Heart or stands from Jojo’s.

Just because the same people are working on it doesn’t mean that it’ll play the same. That’s like saying that A3, 3rd Strike, MvC2, and Vampire Savior play alike just because Neo_G Ishizawa was the battle system designer for all of them.

exactly, people like to talk about how mori would ruin the game, the ideology of how the game is designed is different so even when the same person is behind the game, this doesnt mean that the game would be similar, plus mori is not the battle director of bb neither of this one
GG, BB, HNK, SBX, BF where made by the same people, and none of them play alike
plus stop bitching about BB, at this point its pretty stupid to keep doing that, is just thread derailing
