Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena

That awkward moment when you fight a Shadow Kanji player…

GOD DAMN WHY!? it’s hard enough to juggle SF4 and MVC3, and now they’re gonna do this? not to mention SFxT coming out.
This game is gonna be too hype. I wonder how they’re gonna incorporate the other Persona’s in the gameplay.

i would love to see a 2d fighting game with final fantasy chars, but not made by capcom

lmao, one thing is saying that YOU dont like BB, and another is saying that is not a strong game, BB is one of the most popular games on japan for a reason, the game is inovative, its fun to play, and has a lot of depth

outside of AH they have not done anything remotely interesting (DB was interesting though, but they let it die ), and AH isnt that great to begin with, but hey the ah players seem to love to hate BB just because is the “anime” fighting game that gets the attention instead of their beloved ah

this, i can agree with. arc would do justice to the FF brand more than capcom. sorry for mistranslation of your post then.

not if he has a “Chaos form”. anybody who can fuck a demon’s daughter while on his back is not Dan-tier.

with that being said, the BG in this screen shot looks like one of the stages of Babel. turn the tv’s in cubes then it’ll mak more since.

Honestly, it does not seem like a troll.
Every time a new extension of the game is announce, I rage and wonder “please… PLEASE WORK ON A NEW GUILTY GEAR OR NEW GAME ALREADY!!”

It’s good to hear about Persona 4 fighter by Arc, 'cause there’s a chance they can finally make a good game again. But if it’s from the same guy who was the director and lead programmer for Blaz, then I all I see is false hope in this game becoming good (who knows, maybe he learned something cool by now).

Overall, it will be sometime until we get this game.
Looking at the high quality screen shots, there seems to be a ‘network link’ icon at the bottom center of the HUD, in-between the special bars.
That normally indicates that something on the game is enabling to go online (this is where the Nesica system comes in).

Love Persona, but this is a little much. Games like this are perfect examples of how to kill a genre. These guys are just trying to cash in on the current success of fighters. I don’t like this. Next thing you know, Nether Realms will be hired to make a Halo fighting game, not cool. It displeases me that the 4th installment is a fighter and then 5 will probably go back to being a JRPG. I’m not willing to invest my time to play a fighting game who’s series isn’t dedicated to always remaining a fighter.

Seriously, they can make this game but can’t make a GGXXX?! No good.

there were a lot of reasons actually

  • the game was rushed without enough testing by capcom, remember that they were trying t release the game by november/december , and were seriously trying to release it quickly
  • the original project had a different way of how many of the mechanics worked, but this was changed later by capcom too, for example the dashing strike similar to the HNK boost would have used your super metter, but that was made free, making easy to have those wallstreet infinites
  • ASW reused the HNK engine wich had the problem that the gravity lead to the dribbling infinite, with the little changes that they mad were the gravity pulls you upwards it lead to the space race infinite
  • finally the game was never considered as a serious project by both parts, capcom for not testing it, and rushing its releas both on arcades, and a month later the ps2 port, and asw for using a engine that has obvious problems from the begining, the fact that they were busy with sf4 and BBCT by that time proves it

BB+Jojo is my guess. Game will likely be a 4 button game, with the “Drive” button now being the “Stand” errr…“Persona” button.

we all know pozer loves him some persona

remember that BB is made with a different ideology behind it, GG was done with hardcores in mind, BB was made to be more friendly to the newcomers
you cant compare to games that have a different genesis of concept in mind, BB, BF, GG, HNK, SBX all of them were made by the same team, but you can clearly see that in each game they went in different directions of what they wanted to do and how they wanted to be played (until glitches were found on sbx and hnk :P), lets wait and see what they have in mind for this game, wich i assume it would reuse the BB engine if they want to cut time for the developing period

and BB is not a bad game at all, its actually a very good game, yes some people dont like it, not every game is mean to please everyone, but that doesnt mean that the game is bad, the problem is that those people start to spread stupid nonsense as if the game is garbage or that it take no skill to play, or that there are only huge combos and nothing else like spacing zoning or whatever
one thing is not like the game, another is starting to talk trash about it just because you dont like it (btw not saying that this is the case with yu pozer)

…What the hell are you talking about? Persona 4 was the 4th installment, which this game is based on. This is not an actual sequel in the main franchise, this is just spin-off/side-sidestory.
Of course Persona 5 is still going to be a JRPG.

And who cares if they are trying to capitalize on the current success of fighters? It doesn’t make the fact that we’re getting a Persona based fighter by ArcSys any less amazing.

(I wasn’t even aware there was an anime of this coming out until Westlo mentioned. Speaking of which, considering people have asked, I’d guess that the main character will be called “Yu Narukami” in this game if he’s being called in that anime; I don’t know what happened to the “Souji Seta” that someone mentioned earlier.)

I highly doubt that there are going to be more Personas than there are characters since even with a small cast, that would be pretty insane to get an “accurate” feeling of the amount you could get. I could see maybe 6 extra because of the main characters, but I highly doubt they’re going to let Personas like Mara (NSFW) in.

Apologies, that was poorly phrased.

I meant that “it is based on an established series of games from another company that have a strong identity and said company has proven to be competent & will be heavily involved in the process.” Yes, Atlus isn’t a fighting game company per se and RPGs & Fighting Games are rather dissimilar to each genre-wise, but Atlus has been getting more involved in the fighting game scene of late as someone said earlier and has been doing quite a few positive things in it (when they didn’t have to). So it’s not like ArcSystems is going to have carte blanche over what to do with the game and characters–I picture it sort of like relationship that Capcom and Marvel had/have. Sure, this isn’t a versus game, but (half of) the characters involved aren’t the fighting game maker’s properties and they still have to listen to the owner company with regards to the “source material”.

Whether that’s ultimately a good or bad thing is difficult to say, especially with, again, next to no information to go on at present. But Atlus being a partner seems like one of the better choices, even if I too am trying to be cautious about it.

So, two wrongs make it right? Good to know.

Also, I’ve seen the former happen often. Yes, it happens less than the latter, usually, but it still happens.

More like “that awkward moment where you remember Shadow Kanji exists…”

Haha. For some reason, that part made me immediately think of SNK, maybe just because of the sheer number of metrosexual/bishonen characters both series have.

I like to imagine that the game would explode the instant you try to select Kuja just because he’s too damn pretty.

To imply that BB is a “good game” is kind of… well… this is coming from someone like me, who finds BB as a bad game since day 1.
I was never a fan of BB, however I moved over to BB because it was “the future” and that it was time to move on from GG, to BB (ie, like 3rd strike players going to SF4).

Sadly, it seems I’ve made the mistake in taking such a path.
I find BB a bad game in terms of character design, and engine design. Every incarnation of the game always feels like the developers are not too sure where they are taking the game, and huge changes are done with either the engine, or the character themselves. BBCT (the first version) was sitting on characters who suffered 9 - 1 match ups, and even balance flaws that made people go “HOW DID THEY MISS THAT?!”

At first, one could say the BB series was intended for the more “scrubby” crowd, but have you played the game as of yet? In no way people would be impress by CS1 with there +30 combos. Just seeing those in action would seem to immediate those who are seeking interests in a new fighting game, but might find it too complicated. However, even tho those combos were easy to perform, putting time into it would prove to be an issue to accomplish such a feat (not a large one, but enough to rub new players the wrong way.).

CS2 on the other hand, the game is taking another approach to where newbies will no doubt have a very difficult time getting into it. Engine and character changes has lead the game to where only competitive fighting game players would have the patients to even try to understand the game.

However, in the end BlazBlue series is lacking something that the SF4 wins at.
Let’s be honest here, as scrubby as these new games are, SF4 is fun. No one cares how “easy” you make the game or if you’re trying to capture to a scene who can’t perform all the high end stuff. If you make the game fun, and accessible to a point where the game isn’t considered broken, then you succeeded in making a game no matter how “scrubby” it is.

BlazBlue has yet to do that.
CT was the closets they got into making a “fun” game, but it was stupid broken. However, out of all the versions of BlazBlue, I differently had the most fun playing CT.

iirc, you mained jin on CT right?

and who says that the game is not fun, is not fun for you, but its fun for many others that would find your points hillarious to say the least
for me the sf4 is not fun at all, but that doesnt mean that they are bad games, the diference is that im intelligent and i know that

Honestly I think it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be able to change your Persona’s at all, especially since most of the cast can’t do that in P3/P4. I’m almost certain that each character will have their respective Persona tied to them only and they are summoned through special attacks. At best I can see one character (probably the MC) having some preset interchangeable Persona’s, either as preset specials, or maybe some kind of weapon change like mechanic.

Personally I don’t find SF4 to be “fun” very much at all. I can enjoy a variety of different fighters, but I have never been able to enjoy Street Fighter and 4 is no exception. BlazBlue isn’t perfect, but I’d play it over SF4 any day.

Anyway, yeah, this should be interesting once more info comes out. Perhaps my dream of a great 2D fighter with Kaneko doing the art isn’t so far off now.

You have to understand the amount of people who would agree with that statement (this has been presented before in terms of what the players feel about the BlazBlue series).
Sure enough, even hardcore Blaz players I talk with agree as well as to how the series is deteriorating after each incarnation.

Straight up, it’s not a good series due to the design flaws the game has been presenting in each game.
Some people can like shitty games, while others go about jumping onto other games. It’s no big, my only worry is that I hope the director of BlazBlue does not screw up this title.

(stays out of this abortive back and forth)

Did the main character of Persona 3 ever get a name like the Persona 4 main character apparently did?

Ah, good to know.

I could see them breaking convenient if they think it’s for the betterment for the game, though Atlus might want it to stick closer to the game and it’s not like stuff being interchangeable automatically makes it ultimately better.

The scans had a screen showing the character’s Personae with a menu right beside them, where the only option I could see read MEGANE.

We probably won’t be able to pick Personae, but we might get some sort of customization a-la Arcana Heart.

Minato Arisato.
