Did he ever say it outside of that one instance? I’ve never heard him actually say it besides in that video, at least not recently.

I remember back in 6th grade or so when 4ch was the hot shit and we all found out what an Internet meme was and saw our first goatses and all that initiation stuff. It was funny finding out about some secret club that we could be a part of but I started getting annoyed by it quickly. Everyone else did too, except for the few stragglers who still prank called Domino’s and asked if this was the Krusty Krab or whatever.

Now everyone quotes Reddit jokes and you see tons of poorly-done rage comics all over the place. But I’ve learned by this point that, like most things that aren’t that important, you’ve just got to deal with it.

(lol c wut i did there)

No seriously. People who just discovered the Internet will grow out of it after a little while. Hopefully.

Afterthought: Do many people actually know where the term “trolling” originates? I mean, most people have an epiphany when they find out that it’s an old term for fishing. Not a bad thing of course.

Also, is this weird/hypocritical coming from someone with a Gwonam avatar?

It took 16 seconds to make my head hurt…I think I’m either not on the internet nearly enough or I’m getting old?

I did chuckle at 26 seconds though, I made it around 2 minutes in before I just couldn’t continue for fear of subliminal messages… :frowning:

Kei

MY CELL PHONE WON’T LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TRYING TO POST!!! :frowning:

Meow.

i use yipes/fighting game community quotes sometimes, i wouldnt count that as a internet meme .

teacher doesnt believe i have my homework done, i show her, i tell her to stay free.

and when ever anyone gets knocked to the ground in school i usually jump ontop of them and scream:

you got knocked the fuck you !

:sunglasses:

Well, they didn’t start out as Internet memes, so I guess that gives them the pass.

This may be an old post but I honestly laughed more than once at that video.

I used to make internet memes…but then I took an arrow to the knee.
Ooooh, Oxymoron

I don’t really use memes in real life really. I mean there’s herp derp and easy stuff like that but no spouting of memes every 2.5 seconds like a madman who only speaks “internet”.

I don’t get what’s so wrong about it. do you talk about movies? books? news? I doubt you know how many sayings have their roots in books and movies or regional myths. the internet is all that - only more open, faster spreading and influencing. starting with the past and this generation "internet " and “real life” will fuse on more then one level. it’s evolution - to some sort. read texts from about a century ago, a language evolves over time naturally, “LOL” will be a common saying in the near feature. it even is nowadays.

Thank god I slap anyone who actually says “LOL” instead of just laughing.

I have heard people say ‘‘Derp derp’’ ‘‘Trolling’’ ‘‘Epic fail’’ etc. It is becoming common place even amongst people that don’t frequent the internet.

Saying Lol is stupid unless you are being sarcastic.

This is not evolution it is devolution.

I think people are just annoyed because some people use it too extensively, or memes are only a part of their vocabulary. I reference video games, internet memes and movies all the time. But my vocabulary isn’t 100% of it.

I totally know what you guys mean. I just HATE meme whores. Almost as much as I hate people that judge others on arbitrary meme usage.

But these aren’t clever sayings that eventually become clichés. They’re just little inside jokes, a kind of secret language (as others have pointed out) that doesn’t mean anything. You say it and achieve recognition.

And while I was typing that, the Chuck Norris WoW ad just came on TV.

that’s true. but wouldn’t you equally be annoyed by someone only using utterly proper english gentlemen vocabular? :stuck_out_tongue:
everything can be overdone. what I mean is that it’ll influnce the language permantly sooner or later in a normal way.

btw, you say “lol” not instead of laughing (that’s an emotion mind you) but instead of saying “well that’s funny”.

Evolve or devolve? Comparing books, movies and other things of substance to internet speak doesn’t make much sense really. Let’s not compare apples with oranges here.

same with me

if people are intelligent enough to know when/where/who to say these things around ppl i don’t see no problem with it.

i always make jokes about the internet with my friends cause they understand it and its some i don’t case they wont get it.

its all social skills and how you deal with it
