also if you buy a house now pay the money to have your property value re-assessed. if you don’t pay they’ll never do it
by paying $200 i got my property taxes reduced from 11k to $1900 since the previous assessment was based on the super inflated housing bubble prices and didn’t take in consideration that out of the 13 houses on my culdesac mine is the only one occupied right now.
its like that will smith movie out here in what used to be an upscale suburban neighborhood. i run the entire street and was thinking about taking out a loan to buy every house on the street but its hard to get financing to buy a foreclosed house and i don’t want to put up that much cash to buy them all
I’m 23 still living with my folks. And to be frank about it I would do anything for my folks…but i’m at a stressful point in my life where I’m even starting to lose hair (not even even sure if i can get my hair back.) I had several jobs over the course of my life which some I have tried to keep, and others just plain laid off or seasonal. Not in college at the moment and I am trying to go back. But mind you it’s one of the shittiest community colleges you will ever see, and I felt like I wasn’t learning anything. So I really dont want to go back…so what Im trying to do is while I’m trying to land a good paying lucky job is take an online college until I have my priorities straight. Most of the apartments where I live are expensive as fuck, people are getting laid off left and right since Summer is over, Hurricane Ike fucked my folks previous plans up as well as my own, and I am stuck at square 1 again. Like I just got out of high school only now I have no job, financial aid situation is fuzzy because I don’t like the idea of debt, 5 years older -_- and no car (this is what pisses me off more than anything). I can’t stand motherfuckers who have cars but don’t really try to do shit with themselves like go out of town to job hunt complaining there aren’t any jobs in the area. I Can’t Stand Laziness. At all.
The nearest sure fire job I can easily land as we speak is near my city but I would need a car to get back and forth; that’s all I need. The worst part about this job has been lined up for me since late last year. But since my folks work 24/7 I can’t use the vehicle because then they wouldn’t get to work, and no one in the family won’t let me use their vehicle even though i am willing to pay as much gas as needed so I can proceed to work. That’s if I can obtain it as I have offered before when I did have a job.
Things are in the shitter right now if I can just get out of this damn city I’m good, and even in this recession Im confident I can bounce back on my feet. But…I just can’t believe shit has came to this. This is sad…very sad.
I always had this fantasy where I would learn to fly, and buy a small airplane. And then live out in a rural area away from everything, and commute a few hours each way. Aside from maybe crashing to your death, and also finding places to land/stash your plane, I think it’s a pretty achievable dream.
Its just a stupid stigma western society has created that its bad to be living at home. People all over the world live with their whole fucking family, grandparents, aunts, brothers kids and wives all in one house. Just a way to make people feel better about themselves or look down on something, over something that’s retarded.
i moved out when i was 21 and i cannot stand living at home cause i can’t live on my mom. I just think its stupid to think people are any less of a person for still living at home.
Yes. This is without a roommate. Utilities are not included, but consider that they are also dirt cheap. Paying $400 a month total to live in Liberty, KY in a 2 bedroom house is completely possible. I know this because my parents owned a house there and this is what they charged.
real estate feels like the ultimate “need money to make money” endeavor. It’s like I know there are steals everywhere and housing prices are only going to keep going down for the next 10-12 months, but I don’t have the (relative) small amount of cash necessary to jump in in the first place.
I dont see what’s wrong with living at home if both partys are happy with it.
I cook i clean, i pay the bills.
I’d like to know where this misconception that all people above a certain age that live at home are either social deviants or lazy bastards.
I read somebody mention ambition, wtf does that have to do with anything?
everybody has different expectations in life, some want it all others are happy with what they have, even if it would seem like what they have is nothing.
Who are you to rain on there parade, lacking ambition is hardly the worst thing in the world to lack, i mean ffs there are complete cunts out there, but shit you lack ambition what a terrible thing, do me a favor
If i wasn’t at home i’d probably be serving time at her majesty pleasure, my responsibility’s to my mum and brother keeps me on the straight and narrow.
I mean say you had issues with your family which from my brief browsing of this thread a few of you have, we could all easily say you’re running away from your problems by moving out, it works both ways in relation to being a leech at home or just a lazy cunt that is comfortable at home, or running away from your issues with your parents
I like how people think if you live at home somehow you are completely devoid of responsibility or somehow you have less than if you living on your on own
In response to what limegreenpotatoe said
I think there a problem with living at home if the reasons are anything to do with money, personally i think it’s pretty rank to use your parents for your own convenience, and no matter how much you dress it up in financial talk “it dont make sense for me to move out” “it dont make economic sense for me to move out” "It’s not the right time, things are hard out there"
The bottom line is you dont want to be there and you’re using your parents as an excuse.
And the other reason is pretty obvious just cant be arsed to move out
mabe 7 years ago you didn’t need money since credit was free everywhere, now its impossible unless you’re sitting on large stacks
most banks will not give you a loan to buy a foreclosed house. so like if i bought this house with the intention to sell it in 2 years i could of just paid $4000 or so in interest over the 2 years and used the money to invest in other things, but since they wanted cash it’s more risky.
some towns though like phoenix, vegas, all of florida are real steals right now. you have these mansions people paid 500k+ for, put tons of money into top of the line appliances, marble countertops, multiple bathrooms with jacuzzis, etc. all paid for on credit. house gets foreclosed and there’s just so many of them the bank has to get rid of them.
the house i bought had easily 200k+ of new appliances, new electric, brand new plumbing, marble everything, etc. so it was a real steal.
i can’t check out my neighbors house right now since it’s still considered a crime scene but i’m guessing its just as nice cause they had all these nice cars in their driveway so they definitely live above their means.
I’m 19 right now and I live with my parents. The gf wants us to get a place together because some of the apartments are not that high compared to other states right now, but the main advantage like most have said is that when you live with your parents it allows you to really save up some much needed cash. I think you really don’t need to live with your parents past 30 if you can afford to get your own place, but at the same time once your in your twenties you should have some type of plan to move forward with your life.
