It means I limit how many people can sign up for a tournament the day before it happens. For example, suppose I only allow 128 people to sign up for SFIV on Friday. Once those spots are filled, registration will be closed for the rest of that day. Once the doors open on Saturday morning, the remaining 384 spots will be available for anyone interested.
This was done to avoid running out of space on the Main list before the day a tournament was held, thus ensuring you a chance to sign up for a specific tournament without forcing you to buy a 3 day pass. This way, you only have to buy a 1 day pass for the day you want (in this case, Saturday) and not be screwed out of a chance to sign up on the Main list. Before we did this, there were times when most or all spots on Main would be filled the day before a tournament, thus forcing anyone who came day-of to go on Standby.
It makes more sense when you consider being on Main vs Standby. If you’re on the Main list and show up on time, you’re guaranteed a spot in the tournament. If you sign up on Standby, you only get in if someone from the Main list doesn’t show. We’ve always had quite a few no-shows throughout the years and people who sign up day-of are more likely to commit. Plus, Enforcers have occasionally told people you can only sign up the same day a tournament is held. I implemented this system to both improve the final turnout and build a safeguard against misinformation regarding registration.
Update: I’m no longer taking shirt sizes since the deadline was today, but don’t worry. If you want to volunteer between now and September, you’ll still get a badge.
Depends. If you’re ONLY working console tourney AND can stay the whole time, I’ll let you run your own bracket. Normal Enforcers usually have to switch shifts and go to other assignments, plus I need people on door duty and at the registration table. Overall, the odds of you getting to play in the tournament are pretty good if your Enforcer schedule allows for it.
If you’re working just through me, you can enter the tournament with no restrictions.
That’s fine. Other Enforcer obligations apply ONLY if you signed up through the normal channels, namely through PRD. Everybody who volunteers through me via this thread are only required to help with console tournaments.
I might be going with a friend of mine. Flying out from Oakland/San Francisco.
Any of you locals have a list of things to do in Seattle? I’ve never been to Seattle and I’d like to stay for (possibly) a week.
Staying Sept. 4th-6th for PAX, Sept. 10th for a concert at The Moore. Need about 3 days worth of things to do. All I have is Space Needle Visit, Pike Place Market, the concert on the 10th, and Scarecrow Video
Hey, I sent you an E-Mail when you first posted for volunteers but you didn’t respond. I assume you have enough people now but I was just hoping for some clarification : )
