I heard Ermac also is getting nerfed but Im hoping it wont break him
God, watching his Kabal is fap worthy.
That’s just how it is going to be on a fighting game stream, and I think Candace got that and didn’t take offense to what was being written. The only sad part about it was a couple of people had legitimate questions about the PDP stick, and they got drowned out by the “take off your shirt” stuff. I’m not happy to say this, but racism, sexism, and homophobia are always going to be present in fighting games streams, because there are a lot of people who feel they are part of the culture; fortunately, I don’t think too many people are genuinely offended by it, and Candace said she knew what she was getting into :nono:.
The fallout from this tournament is going to be more interesting than all that, though. I’m predicting an overreaction to the Kung Lao/Raiden popularity, and I’m interested to see if Justin is going to stick with the game now that the big payday is over.
EDIT: Oh, and I was happy Ski held NRS to the fire over the netcode situation on the screen, it was awesome to see him speak to our concerns, and get a fairly positive response from NRS to boot.
Hell yeah! I was really rooting for that guy lol.
Oh and also that Quan Chi! Forgot who was playing him but he was good too! I was impressed.
I hope we see more diversity in the next tournaments. We haven’t seen a lot of Kano, Stryker, Mileena and Kitanas yet. I hope that will change post-patch.
The only problem with watching Michaelangelo’s Kabal- particularly in the early pools play- was that everytime he went for a reset during a juggle, the commentator’s were acting like he dropped the combo.
News flash: If you drop a juggle, the opponent doesn’t land on his feet, waiting for you to mix him up, he lands flat on his ass on the ground.
I know it’s a minor thing, but you’d think commentator’s should know their stuff.
Why 1v1 mk9 though, why not make 2v2 the standard format?
Who cares if PDP ran it? It kinda sucks that they made players use the sticks, but PL was the only one who complained about it. The turnout was pretty good and the matches were very hype. The fact that corporations are willing to spend over $21,000 to gain publicity is a very good sign for the FGC, and I have no clue why any of you would knock that.
This event shouldn’t have happened. PDP should have put that money down for EVO’s MK9 tourney and not tried to force the community to use their stupid stick. Take a lesson from Madcatz and don’t try to strong arm the FGC.

Why shouldn’t it have happened? From PDP’s perpective, 187 people entered and all bought the fightstick. If it costs $100, then they made $18,700 off of sales alone (as long as no one would have bought it anyway, and TBH I don’t think many would have). So that almost covers their prize money without factoring in the publicity they got.
From the FGC standpoint, we get another major tournament with a very big cash incentive. That’s exactly what needs to happen for the FGC to grow.
It was really a winning situation for everybody. People love to hate, especially when big business is involved. Not everything run by a corporation for profit is evil.
Unless it’s something very obvious like a button that don’t work AT ALL, it’s hard identifying problems during tournament play. You don’t know if it’s you screwing up or the hardware. Let’s for say some reason the block button doesn’t work one out of 20 times- You’ll get crazy way before you realize there is something wrong with the hardware and it’s not just your fault or imagination.
The FGC hates it when a “tournament” is just a show and not actually a “true” tournament.
PDP is not the 1st. All the “official” tournaments for various games (SF4, T6) were pretty stupid.
Of course there’s nothing we can do about it but at least let the people express their legitimate displeasure.
A $10,000 reward makes players play their best. That’s definitely not just for “show.”
The Evo circuit is not the only “true” tournament series. This is hardcore Scotsman fallacy.
Who was talking about EVO?
Players always do the best they can to win, but a true tournament needs to give them some minimal conditions.
Tournaments should be offline, on a lagless TV, with your controller of choice, and with no one getting seeded.
All the official tournaments I have heard of failed to do one if not more of the above.
So the controller limit automatically makes it not a “true” tournament? Give me a break. The entrants accepted the terms. They had the chance to not enter, but they did accepting the rules. Plenty of awesome stuff happened throughout the weekend. This tournament was not “just for show,” it was the real deal and people took it seriously.
Also, I have no clue who gave you the authority to speak for the entire FGC. Fight For Relief was a tournament for show more than any other tournament I can think of. The winner got nothing out of it. All of the proceeds went to relief for Japan. The whole thing was a ploy to get people to donate to the relief effort. Yet, the FGC pretty much unanimously loved it (and for good reason).
Hahaha @ the Michaelangelo hype. By the time PowerUp was over, I knew he was gonna go back to the west and start putting on some beastly showings. 1st at Hadocon and now top 8 at the PDP tourney.
News flash: Yes.
Because NRS never intended 2v2 to be competitive, just for fun. Confirmed by Tom.
Agreed. Forcing folks to play on a controller that isn’t the best for that player makes for less of a tournament. Since competition moved to consoles, it has always been BYOC. That way, you cannot fault your own hardware - you bring what you’ve been practising on and take the risks of it failing with you.
It’s similar to those people who think that arcade sticks are OP and therefore force you to play on their bootleg $10 each gamepads because that ‘levels the playing field’. This is the first time I’ve seen pads disallowed though, go figure. Although that PDP stick is as cringe-worthy as sticks will get.
I was a bit irked about the corporate folks trying to make it look legit via player interviews and G4TV. These things should just happen, not be ‘scheduled into the day’ - the downtime killed a lot of hype for me.
Ed Boon needs to show up for EVO.
-tataki: never thought of it that way though; if a button half-works there’s no way of telling under that pressure. I was only thinking buttons either work or don’t.
Because 2v2 sucks dick and no one wants to play it?
i thought there was tag combos etc?
why wouldnt it just be the same as 1v1, but with more meta game?
im asking to know. like i didnt really try any tags and continue kombos after tags but why does this not make the game slightly better?
