all that money to throw on a game against someone? lol… throw some of that money my way!!! :woot:
actually, considering how paul was deep into rainbow edition back in the day, i’m surprised he didn’t get into mvc2. the onscreen madness is on par.
actually, someone has to speak on this since paul doesn’t want to bother saying anything online. we heard from people saying that the lag was the ONLY reason he won. he could care less, but i gotta defend my boys skill. he told me personally that he didn’t feel any lag in the matches he played, but that the speed felt “different” from the last time he played dreamcast st. i doubt myself that there was lag personally from watching the vids. i’ve played games like tekken:dr and the lag when i battle online etc can fuck up your timing major. in the choi match specifically, my boys sonic booms are dead on point. i would think lag would’ve fucked up his timing and we’d be seeing alot of backfists instead, and i’m positive paul isn’t that skilled where he could adapt to lag that fast. also, there was always the option of fixing the settings. not sure if he would have agreed to an interruption especially if he was already up 1 round vs choi, but he did tell me that the 1 ryu player he battled in part 5 of the series, their match was reset becuase the recording wasnt in effect. btw, please don’t read this any other way, i’m just saying what paul told me, and if there was lag, only the players battling would know and at the end of the day - both had to deal with it.
on another note, who’s to say in the future that lag can’t be blamed for any loss?
what exactly do you define as “real”? my other boy showed me a thread where you were hyping up that triumviir tournament which choi, valle, and fl did well in - congratz to them, but i heard that it was plagued with lag from the online tournament portion. don’t tell me you thought that was more “real” than the gamespot event where i heard the confusion and organization was less than stellar. for the record, paul wished he won more fake tournaments that gave as much as gamespot, and the less comp the better chance at it - some people are just like that. me personally, the fact that he played hard, and that some well known players participated and played hard themselves - that legitimizes the event imo. we’ve battled in rainbow edition tournaments back in the day, and i’m under the impression that nobody on these boards takes those seriously at all. it’s like saying - is it safe to say evolution without daigo is less legit than an evolutiuon with daigo?
actually, i was gonna give a better background of my boy and his mindset that time for the gamespot tournament - if you only knew the preparation “on the fly” that he broke down to us, you would respect (or maybe hate) him moreso. but this piece is getting tired. yeah it was the 1st hd remix tournament, but the present and future tournaments are the only thing that people should worry about. peace - and happy new year.
let’s end it like this, i know many old school heads don’t “practice” for this game, but with new blood gunning to be the best, we will see some good players emerge - some old skool, some new. if usa did practice hardcore, we’d probably do better than japan face to face for sure. staying on top, takes alot of effort, and if you sleep, you will fall (that goes in anything, not just street fighter).
straight from street fighter 1 - “… don’t forget there are many guys like you all over the world.”
Japan got raped at evo last year.
it was kinda shocking to see top 8’s so full of american players
there are many reasons why japan doesnt dominate in st. first off, the players from back in the day that still play are well adept in an art known as “footsies.” most of the new players are just practice mode guys who know combos and what not where as spacing is the main key to victory. knowledge is also a great part of the game and the arcade scene was strong when this game was out so many players learned a ton during its popular era. another reason is also because ST doesnt have some bs comeback crap like revenge meter, guess parry into 100% combos, and snap backs into infinites. im sure you get my point.
I’ll MM in FHD.
How much? :wgrin:
don’t even try.
although he probably never heard of FHD, you’ll still get creamed from what i heard of your skill level. give him 2 weeks tops. hell maybe even one week depending how scrubby the game is.
wtf is FHD?
Let’s be real, only Nuki could have represented japan in ST and he got 2nd. Raped? I think not. The other japanese players were there for cvs2 and guilty gear. Probably joined ST for shits and giggles.
Kusumondo?
I have that whole video somewhere lol
Me too!
Anyway, my take on the matter is that it brings back the competitive spirit in the community. How? You have this guy, Paul Eath, who no one has heard of, win a Street Fighter tourney in which everyone expected either John Choi or Graham Wolfe
to.
Now questions arise. Is this guy any good? Was it a fluke? How would he fare against so and so? Will he be so lucky in a more standard format, 2 out of 3 games, double-elimination? If this guy beat Choi and Wolfe, I have a good shot at beating them too, right?
So word is going to spread, more people are interested in the game and will want to play more to see if they can beat so and so. There will be more challenges made online through the forums, XBL, PSN, and tourneys. People are going to shit talk, and who doesn’t like to hear shit talking? Then when money gets involved it really starts to get interesting. Roll in the cameras and we have ourselves a pay-per-view match ready to be watched on Youtube… for free!
Hell… now I want to play this guy! Just because it’s a new name/face in the scene and I would love to improve my game and you can only do that by playing more people and learning from your matches.
I like this guy. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of his matches up on youtube in the future. As long as he continues to play, his game will speak for itself. And judging from the vids, this guy knows what he is doing… besides ‘just pressing buttons’.
Now about the lag issue… no real comment here. I’m an ‘adapt and overcome’ type of guy. If you cannot adapt and overcome, you’re going to fail. Seriously, is there any other choice when given certain circumstances? You cannot always have it your way, best conditions, etc… This is the real world, shit happens and you’ll have to deal with it as they come.
oh… and I have my $$$ on Watts > Eath :lovin:
I ran into something crazy and it reminded me of this thread. So what was the real story on this guy, did he actually show up for EVO? Also, I think awhile back someone posted that he was not who he claimed to be and that he was actually well known (but then it wouldn’t make sense because he should’ve been recognized easily). So anyways, me and a friend were planning a trip to Asia and we were just randomly browsing youtube for interesting stuff to check. Out of nowhere he runs into this vid and links me to it.

this isn’t even SF related but the guy looks very much like that dude who won gamespot. The thing is his name does not seem to be Paul. But just from the vid, I’m almost positive it is the same guy though. What’s even weirder is in the “related vids” there’s a link to the gamespot tournament when the videos are nowhere even remotely related at all. Very strange - and how is it he just disappeared off the face of the earth? No other sighting or tournament entries… nothing. How?
^ ^ ^ ^
He is the most interesting man in the world.
the legend only grows…haha.
Yo, Watts i’ll take that “BET” any time your ready to do it.
does this guy play tekken? i think i saw him before in metreon (San Francisco) playing tekken 6.
Did anyone else come out for Evo other than Kusumondo or Nuki any ways? Those are the only 2 Japanese players I remember seeing in the brackets for 2k8. The fact that Nuki actually came somewhat close to winning against John Choi’s cheap ass Old Sagat is a win in itself. Not to knock John Choi’s skills but…that character is ridonkulous and in his hands…forget it. LOL.
Of course Kusumondo got raped cuz he had to fight against a Ryu. Alex Valle’s.
this is a complete mindfuck…
it is him 100%, he has a mark above his left cheeck in both videos
lol who? I looked him up on google.
