Paul Heath @ Evo?!

Go Shirts!

???

it’s just a joke.

For all the people who think beating someone 1 match means anything…lol. I have beaten Valle (on GGPO) one match in ST, does that mean that I am better than him? Hell no, I’m not even close to that mans level. Stop being foolish, and look at the most important fact.

It was one match! In ST! Shit means nothing! Let’s not look at Choi and Grahams track record for the past 10 years or so, lets focus on one random match and go off of that.

If there is a rematch, smart $$$ is on the OGs.

Alight nevermind.

I bet 3$ on bronson

I’ll bet $1.29 (Canadian) on whoever gets the left side. Everyone knows it’s overpowered.

Wow, many of you fools got alotta nerve speculating nonsense. This isnt Paul, but like Oro I know Paul personally as well. We’re using our boy Kyo’s account, but the REAL PAUL was gonna post some shout outs and thank Us to Gamespot heads, but srk seems to be having problems letting new accounts register, so I will speak on his behalf since we battled this fool from world warrior days and we hang out on the regular. They’re actually playing some fool online in hd remix right now on my ps3 (Paul, Kyo, and another friend of ours ) - would you like to challenge them? =)

Is Paul a good SF player? Well obviously Graham and Choi didnt think so at the tourney and they paid for it - leaving with their rep tarnished. You see, Choi and Graham, they let themselves get beaten. To assume that this would be a cake walk is ludicrous, and with the rules in effect that day - they should have taken more precaution or not entered at all if they were worried about preserving their elite status. Is Graham and Choi still among the best? Of course - but for as long as that Gamespot vid is circulating on youtube, they’ll have to deal with the usual “WTF? how could you lose that? and who was that newb that beat you guys, yada-yada-yada?” I’m sure they’ve had to explain themselves on numerous occasions already…

Paul is NOT new school, nobody on the SF scene has heard of him, true - that is all, but in other game circles he is known. Actually, because of “certain circumstances” I doubt he will compete in many future tourneys (if you only knew the situation LoL)… at least not at the moment. Evo? We will see and I’ve been pressuring him to try at least, but the issue about Evo moving farther east is a problem. But if he did, you fools would probably put him in a “game of death” bracket for sure, and that’s not exactly fair imo. He has thought of going to Evo prior, especially that time when Daigo 1st decided to return to USA. For some reason he had it in his head that he could maybe challenge Daigo in a casual match of darkstalkers - I dunno how that could have been done… but niggaz can dream I guess. And he wanted to challenge him in st, but like… who didnt right? Grab a number and fall in line buddy…

Paul also wanted to go that time Thomas Osaki tried to make a comeback, to see the legend himself. Regardless how that ended, he RESPECTS old school players who still have that desire to prove themselves - to compete.

Now, after reading Watsons post above, I will retract what I initially was gonna say, or at least lessen my feeling about it. For a minute I was under the impression many oldskoolers were disrespecting off the bat cuzz they were hurt their homies got beat. But hey… what is 1 tournament? And fanboys - for or against a new player making noise - you cant control that. The eco system that is SF isnt gonna get destroyed with a “new player” on the scene, so dont worry. He actually respects this Shirtsguy alot (mainly cuzz he uses old sim instead of new) and he knows of Watson accomplishments (but he feels that the time you guys repped USA in 2000 or 2001, you should’ve used balrog cause he thinks you would have dominated with him instead of shotos)… Afro legends? - nothing but respect, maybe the best deejay we have seen regulate. And Choi and Valle, hell - we replay that youtube st battle they have with Daigo constant (ryu/balrog vs sagat matches) - the best evo match sets in our opinion. So for you guys to disrespect him like that, seriously… Why the hate?

Anyways, this is Paul’s background as far as competitive games. If this is anyway untrue - I dare you to call it

Paul is good in many games. But “good is very subjective”… not elite good, but “good enough” where he can give many a decent match. These days he probably isnt good in many games for the simple fact that other priorities in life take precedence. SF and competitive games is a young man’s game, as much as you try to hold it off, life catches up to you, and if you persist to keep it as a focus while you age - then other things will suffer unless you’re well taken care of by someone or you’re just ballin like that.

These are the games (that I know of) that Paul plays or has played and I/we battle him and school him in some (yes, I run game on the hd remix champion HA)

sf2:ww/ ce/ hyper
sf2: blackbelt and rainbow edition (favorite)
ssf and st
samurai shodown 1 and 2 (favorite)
darkstalkers 1 (favorite)
world heroes 1 and 2
mk2
fighters history (dont ask me why, but also his favorite)
alpha 1 and 2
soul calibur 1 and 2 (1 is his favorite)
tekken 1 - 6 (2 and tag is his favorite)
cvs1 and cvs2

We used to play alot of altered beast, wwf superstars, shinobi, golden axe, and double dragon (shinobi all day, no ninja stars fool). At 1 time he was mad addicted and actually focused a good amount of time on his favorite games. Btw, it saddens us that srk has totally dissed SNK games like samurai shodown etc (his galford, genjuro and ukyo especially were murderous in that game and I think he held the kill record at SFSU until that machine was taken out in the mid 90s). The last major tourney he competed in was in 2001, where he actually practiced often for. I wont say what game or where, but “big names” were there and he felt satisfied to win and that he proved himself then. He felt it was time to “move on” as far as competitive games after, and believe me it was past over due. Does he still play games? Yes… Does he play hard? Yes - plays to win… But is he elite? NO. Not enough dedication these days to be on that level and he always claims to be “just average”. You can rewind that gamespot shit also, he says **“alot of luck was involved” **half the time.

Now the gamespot tournament -

Actually, we’re gonna grub right quick so I’ll finish this later… stay tuned succaz!!!

The more the merrier, guy had a good attitude. This is hopefully what the new fighters can do, bring in some new players to the tourney scene.

Everyone,

You guys getting overworked over nothing. Below is what Choi said about the whole experience:

So far Paul has said NOTHING so far - hasn’t talked shit or anything.

Since Kyo can talk for his friend paul - I’ll talk for my friend Choi: He hasn’t even thought about this tournament since it happened. He just went to a random tournament, had fun and that’s it. It’s not like this was Evo SF - just a random tournament for a game that wasn’t even out yet. Not to take away anything from paul but this tournament wasn’t ‘real’ and I’m pretty sure everyone who was there (including paul) knows this.

There is another tournament coming up in San Jose - everyone should try to attend that one. If not there is always something coming up sooner or later.

BTW - here’s the info for the tournament in San Jose on Dec. 20th: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=169790

Good post.

Again, I can only speak for myself, but I love playing new peeps in ST that I have never played before. All in the spirit of competition. I come from the old school arcade $$$ match times.

Thanks to omni for the heads up.

Just like omni said, I think people are getting way too overworked. I haven’t seen any posts by Paul himself talking shit or claiming anything that people are speculating about. And I have not said anything and neither has Graham. Until Paul comes on here to says something himself, there is really no point for any of this discussion.

Kyo717 is now speaking out to defend his friend in this pointless debate, there should be no need for any of this. Kyo717, your points are well taken but I disagree with the following:

“Is Paul a good SF player? Well obviously Graham and Choi didnt think so at the tourney and they paid for it - leaving with their rep tarnished. You see, Choi and Graham, they let themselves get beaten. To assume that this would be a cake walk is ludicrous, and with the rules in effect that day - they should have taken more precaution or not entered at all if they were worried about preserving their elite status.”

Me and Graham did not think lowly of Paul’s skills or think it would be a cake walk as you claim here. And I do not have any qualms about my rep. I entered that tourney exactly because I’m not worried about “elite status.” I knew it was on Japanese sticks, single elim, 1 game, and on laggy TVs. Yet I still entered because I was there at the event to have a good time, period.

As I stated previously in another thread (http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=5716403&postcount=4807) that omni quoted, I thought Paul was good. Regardless of tourney conditions/format, its not easy to get to the top while taking out a fine player such as Graham in the process. Graham is good, Paul is good, nothing more, nothing less.

Until Paul comes on here to issue or accept challenges, all this discussion is pretty much pointless. Leave the man alone and move on people.

i’d like to see him at evo just cause he was one of those strange cases of a total unknown (at least to the FG scene at large) taking down top players.

its such a rare scenario

omg i watched all the vids and couldn’t believe how corny those gamespot guys and the interviews were.

Especially the commentary during the matches…just wow.

wolfe’s interviews were so funny, he must have been thinking god let’s just get this over with it already.

Graham bringing the cheese !!

When and where exactly will evo be held? And is hd remix the only game considered or will ST be among the games? Even if we cannot make Paul go, there is actually 3 or 4 I have in mind that maybe would consider, especially after I mentioned the discussion on the boards. Every match is a gamble obviously, and nothing is certain, but the 3 or 4 I know of are -at this point- better than Paul imo (at least in ST and hyper), but hd remix will be a different game maybe by then (I’m also going by the last time I saw all of them play together, maybe last summer at a friends party). Who’s to say they can do as well, but their mentality as far tournament and competition is similar

wow ppl gota get off this guys dick i mean stop worrying bout if the guy is good or not. worry bout urselfs getting good.

1st to 10 for 500 in mvc2

get at me

im not sure where i went wrong or what is interpreted wrong here, but the bottom line is : paul won, gg. now since paul is good, lets play for $$$ on a non-lagged tv, joystick of players choice, large sums of money. if paul, or his friends would like to wager, NP! if the money is worth the time, im sure shirts or myself would travel to accommodate. choi worried about tarnishing his legendary status, lol? foo sucks!! haha, jk inferno.

1 match on a laggy TV has a thread this big?

no no we in the sf community must get back to circle jerking around the OG king of single elim mr diego umehariguerra

nuff said…
