Path of Exile Official release date is 10/23! GET ON IT

Open beta patch notes: http://i.imgur.com/8Kk1n.jpg

I’m liking those changes. Can’t wait to try out act 3 and the new maps!

There’s a 1 week HC race event happening today at 5 PM PST. The last event before the launch of open beta. Anyone here participating?

Its also end of closed beta so some prices are rediculous. At the beginning of OB it will be bad too. I reccommend doing all races once OB starts to get the extra orbs.

how do i do races when OB starts?

also, I keep hearing they are nerfing Chaos Inoculation, but I didn’t notice it on that list posted by @Bananaweed.

Stupid ass question here, but what name do I give people, like you guys, who want to add me? The name of my current character or main or what? I don’t recall making a username for the game, aside from my email login and shit like that.

They announce races and then when you create a character you can select that race for the league you want him/her in.

CI is getting nerfed, maybe not in the beginning of OB though. Its pretty OP right now but obiviously if its over nerfed no one will use it, and its an awesome concept.

Give your account name, not your player name.

i think it’s the name of your character? so if you have multiples post them? mine is HeaTness, add me! i will be playing today (in 1.5-2 hours or so), i will add bweed today and look back to see if anyone else posted names.

i got a lot of free shit to give out cause i dont really care (lots of gems and 4 link items), everything will be wiped soon anyway.

looks like I am still SoVi3t there

yaaay no numbers or crazy jazz. I should be around today, I’ve been alternating between this and halo 4 and d3.

I have a level 50 witch, thats it :stuck_out_tongue:

Going to stream Path of Exile for a bit later today at 9 PM PST. www.twitch.tv/finestko

whats ur username?

anywho, big ass giant question time:

  1. I am going to keep my current role when I do Open Beta. Fire/Minion witch. What skill gems and passives shuold I keep an eye out for? this is what I got going on so far. I am almost done Ruthless, and I still pretty much kill everything I see in like 1-2 hits of whatever I throw at them. I don’t really die, I don’t really get close to dying, and the few times i have died, I am usually drinking, smoking, lagging, or not really paying attention.

  2. I hear people say you should take certain rewards from certain quests. Can anybody fill me in on this a little more?

  3. As a fire/minion witch, one thing i noticed is I depend on dex a lot. Fire Trap, Lesser Multiple Projectles, and I am told Chain. Should I invest in dex/str to ensure I can as much viable gems and gear as possible? Should i get extra dex/str through the skill tree (as u can see I picked up a str & dex skill buff, and was looking into getting another str and dex one, or just a dex one), or should i just get a ring or belt or something?

  4. belts, wtf? What should i be using? I don’t think I’ve changed my belt since level 17

  5. What should i do with my orbs? Should I be trading away GCP’s, or should i save em and use them on my best gems? Is it ok to spend an alchemy or whatever on gear as I level up, say around level 30+, so I can keep kicking ass, or should i really save every last thing i get for end game?

  6. Chain. I see everybody discuss it, ask for it, or sell it. Is it really that good? Should i try to get it at some point? What is generally considered the price of that skill? How exactly does it work?

  7. Support gems. Do they ONLY support the skills they are on, or are their general support gems as well (ie - does the extra item rarity support gem only affect fireball, if i put it on fireball?). How does socketing work exactly with multiple sockets? If I have something with BRG (in that order) and put fireball, fire penetration, and lesser projectiles, would the fireball still get the socketed lesser projectiles even though its not directly next to the socket? Now what about BGGB and i have fireball, lesser projectile, chance to flee (green support gem), and firestorm…would the 2 support gems affect both spells? Would the spacing of the BGGB sockets even matter, really, so long as they’re all connected?

  1. This is probably about the bandit quest. If you finish the quest you get a skill point, or you help one of the bandits for permanent +40hp, X amount of mana, or resistances. A lot of people do the HP or the skill point.

  2. Depends how much Dex you are short by. You can probably find better gear if you are within about 20dex. out to the right and left of the passive tree there are some +30dex nodes as well. I usually always get those big nodes.

  3. You should have several belts. Just swap them out as needed for whatever you are doing (resistances, life, mana, etc…)

  4. Save orbs as best you can, they become really important end game and you will go short supply quick. Dont waste too many Chroms, jews, fuses, alts on low end gear. Save GCPs, thats like the best currency for bidding on gdlk items. Also you can generally get a decent 10% qual gem for 1 or 2 GCP’s, which is worth it.

I usually only alch rings and ammys, also only use chance orbs on rings and ammys and gear that can become uniques.

  1. Support gems. Do they ONLY support the skills they are on, or are their general support gems as well (ie - does the extra item rarity support gem only affect fireball, if i put it on fireball?).
    Yes

How does socketing work exactly with multiple sockets? If I have something with BRG (in that order) and put fireball, fire penetration, and lesser projectiles, would the fireball still get the socketed lesser projectiles even though its not directly next to the socket?

Yes if its linked. This is why Fuses are nice to have.

Now what about BGGB and i have fireball, lesser projectile, chance to flee (green support gem), and firestorm…would the 2 support gems affect both spells? Would the spacing of the BGGB sockets even matter, really, so long as they’re all connected?

Yes. Best way to tell if a support gem is applied to a skill is look at the skill in the toolbar. You will see little icons on the skill (like my Ground Slam icon shows MFA on it for melee physical damage, fire damage and attack speed) Not all support gems will stack or apply to certain skills.

Also I have a Sidhebreath ammy for you if you want it

lol so do i

Actually i read a few people in chat saying after shit like, say, the Normal Brutus quest, you should go for a certain skill gem.

With the bandits, i go for the extra skill point.

Its not that i am short dex, its that i am level 50, and am short by dex and see my self possibly being short dex/str for certain skills later on (flame totem = str and i use that a lot, and a lot of good support gems are dex). And yeah, i’ve been hitting up those big dex nodes.

can you elaborate? What belt type should i be using as a witch? Chain? I notice they dont really seem to have levels on them…

Define end game? Like when i have hit max level? I shouldn’t use a single orb, unless absolutely necessary, until i can’t xp anymore?

another question:

A) any skill gems I should keep an eye out for? I see people ask for chain all the time, but are there others that go for a bit?

B) How exactly should I play a CI build? Any other skills I would need? How much should I fear an inevitable nerf?

C) What should I be doing on open beta day? Just take my character and level em as fast as possible? Races? Something else?

D) How exactly does the energy shield or whatever work?

E) what should my potion loadout be? Especially depending on whether I go CI build or just fire minion without that (if that is even a good idea).

soviet, got your invite, also sent bweed a friends request. will be on now. although im not as high lvl as you guys are, only 37

Lvl 50? That’s quite a bit of playing if it’s your first time. You liking it so far?

I usually get the skill points from the bandit quests, although they’re changing quest rewards for open beta.

If you’re going CI build, you want to max energy shield in your passives as well as your gear and ignore HP mods. With how CI currently works, you can get like 15,000+ ES, which is retarded. The upcoming nerf to CI will be that instead of a keystone (one passive point) granting +50% ES, it’ll be split up into smaller nodes. Chaos damage, which currently doesn’t affect CI, will cause your ES to take damage as if it were HP. Therefore, you should look for high ES belts and other gear as a witch. Gear dropped by higher level monsters roll higher values.

End game is after you’ve passed merciless difficulty and start doing maps.

A) Good gems to keep an eye out for: Chain, Lesser/Greater multiple projectiles (LMP/GMP), Elemental Hit, Elemental Weakness, Elemental damage on weapons

B) See above

C) No point in races if you’re not experienced since people min/max those things. Just focus on leveling and reaching end-game so you can farm higher level content.

D) Can’t say exactly, but you can check the mechanics thread on the POE forums.

E) Pots depend on your build. If you have no need for HP pots, use mana pots and granite pots for extra defense. If you want extra DPS, use diamond pots.

Its not a quite a bit of playing. I literally wipe the floor with everything that steps in front of me. And then get a ton of xp. I always say “one more run then I will log off” then I get enough xp to level up and be one more fucking run away from levelling up. If I played D3 I would not have a 60 yet, for sure. Yet I kill one and all. My gear is incredibly lucky, i got a nice trade or two early on because open beta was coming up and I traded a GCP for a nice ass ammy which I still use, and my gems seem to love me and my gear.

do go on. I would LOVE if they made it worth my while to either attempt all 3 bandits, or at least fucking 1 of them and be worth losing skill points. I’m sorry but having to choose from Minion speed skill gems and and lightning resistance lowered gem doesn’t cut it for a quest reward.

man, so many questions:

  1. what stats am I looking for on Witch drops? Should I even bother looking at str/dex drops or just vendor them right away? What about Dex/Int or ???/Int?
  2. Why did I ask like 3 questions in 1?
  3. Is this really #3?
  4. whatever, important Q here: how much does your health bar and ES bar differentiate? I see my health go down and yet my ES doesnt, so if I have CI build and have 1 hp would I not just start dying a lot vs certain builds and mobs? Do certain attacks take ouit health instead of ES and vice versa?
spaghetti) YET AGAIN U BRING UP BELTS!! Should I be going for cloth, or chain, or what seriously?

Anywhere I can find a good list of price value versus GCP or whatever for some of the skills?
Are there rare pots? Uniques? Will there be? As a witch, would it make sense to have more mana pots than health, or does that really depend on CI?: What about the pots that aren’t health, or mana? Should I keep one f each res around and are there any I should keep an eye out for?

Also, is there any chance the skill tree, in it’s current form, will change for the Open Public Beta?

What’s your character name? That’s what I gotta use to add you.

  1. Mainly int. Dex and str are bonuses. It also depends on the type of gear you wanna wear:
[]full ES armors have higher INT requirements
    [
    ]Armor+ES gear = STR+INT
    []pure armor = STR
    [
    ]Evasion = DEX
    []Evasian+ES = DEX + INT
    [
    ]Evasian + Armor = DEX + STR
1. Chaos damage ignores ES, so that’s why you see your HP fall but not your ES. CI makes you immune to chaos damage, so those mobs wouldn’t affect you (you won’t die, even with 1 hp).

Spaghetti) For ES, use chain belts. Have several on hand for different situations, ex. +resists belt, +ES belt, +life/mana leech, etc.

Edit:

Not sure about current trade values. I’ve been using self-found stuff.

Only magic pots. Can have 2 affixes (I like pots that refill when you crit). I only use HP, Mana, Hybrid, diamond, and granite flasks. All others are useless unless your gear is lacking.

Some vendor recipes:

  1. Any 3-linked item with a blue, red, and green socket = 1 chromatic orb

  2. Any amulet + 1 gem of each colour = onyx amulet (play around with different gems until you get a +20 stats amulet)

  3. Flasks with 20% quality = glassblower’s bauble

  4. **Flasks with a total of 40% quality or more = glassblower’s bauble. **Pick up any “superior” flasks you see and save them until you have a total of 40% quality or more before vending.

  5. Armor with 20% or a total of 40% = armorer’s scrap.

  6. Same for weapons I think = blacksmith’s whetstone.

  7. Any six-socketed item (don’t have to be linked) = 6 jeweler’s orbs.

  1. Selling 1 rare of each slot will net you a chaos orb. I always use 1 stash tab just for this.

  2. 1 rare of each slot all with max quality will net you a divine orb.

  3. Items with item rarity, quantity, and certain flasks will net you some alchemy shards. I’m not sure which kinds of flasks yet.

  4. 2 rare items with the same name will get you a orb of chance.

And 6 socketed items will get you 7 jewellers not 6.

I think I’m going to just sit on my level 19 Shadow until the final character wipe. No point in playing right now considering everything we do is going to become virtual dust in a bit over a week.
