The company is purely against “pay for power” the shop will only be for cosmetics and such, not for any kind of in-game advantage.
They have to make their money somehow without upsetting anyone and this is the perfect way to do it.

No power is being sold.
Not now.
Not ever.
All that the cash shop sells is Barbie Dress-up.
Those words would be reassuring if there was a game out there that was actually successful using that business model.
League of Legends
Really think about that. Think about what Riot Games does to make money, think about what they added to DotA so they could make money off it. Then ask yourself if you’d really want to play a dungeon crawler operating under the same business practices.
Also, Riot sells convenience, which is about as close to selling power as you can get without actually selling power.
So far there are over 11,000 people donating to Grinding Gear Games with AT LEAST $10 per person. I’ve seen 7-8 diamond supporters (donated $1,000 each) in the forums. And they only accepted donations 3 days ago! To me that shows faith in the company GGG and PoE. People love this game and are throwing money at them for an unfinished product.
BTW, it was never the company’s intentions to ask for donations, hundreds of people practically begged them to take their money during and after the public stress test.
Edit: There are actually at least 10 diamond supporters ATM.
They sell stash space. In a dungeon crawler, that is as good as power.
Regardless of what I have said about the game, I will accept a beta key if anyone wants to give one away.
I believe they sell stash space not inventory space… Not 100% sure yet.
I meant Stash. Still, Stash space is just as prized as inventory space…
More stash space means fewer mules…
which by the way, they also sell character slots for.
shrug
All I know is that I personally won’t be spending a dime on the game, but shall enjoy it fully.

You didn’t specify a dungeon crawler, you said ANY game. So yeah, League of Legends makes money, I know I gave them money and I’m more then happy with my purchases. I spend more time on a F2P game then all the games I bought combined in the past year. And I buy all new releases. I currently have like 3 games in package, and 15 games on steam, none of them installed.
Just sayin’. Unless I misread or misunderstood your point. Really tired, atm.
After playing the game… It’s pretty good. It has the game mechanics of Diablo with the materia system from FF7.
Nice did you get your key by donation or from somewhere else?
Just paid $10 to try it out.
GGG just announced that they received over $200,000 in just 5 days. And remember this is for a beta with very little content. Not to mention it’s a F2P game!
This game looks pretty dope. Im not gonna pay to play a beta though so I’ll just wait to see if I get one of those random invites.
The chances of getting one from the timer is very slim… A friend and I signed up for the beta back in June 2011 and neither one of us has been chosen. We both got to finally play it when the public stress test started and we both fell in love with PoE. Open beta will start sometime in June, so if you don’t feel like waiting, $10 is your best bet.
I saw a guy get a key via that timer after having an account for only 1 hour. It can happen, but it is fairly rare. There are a ton of people without keys still.
