While on the tangent of throw teching, I would prefer d+LP+LK to give a throw (or a tech) instead of a c.LP; I feel like the game should understand that LP+LK (regardless of direction) means I want to throw/tech throw, not perform a normal attack.
Except down and throw was specifically made NOT to work since it’d prevent crouch block teching and the option selects it provides.
Except you are not understanding his post, what he posits still gets blown up by low attacks. The only thing extra that it does is allow the player to tech while crouching… The sf4 os of getting out an attack doesn’t apply since a tech animation occurs instead of a cr.lk animation.
Also, with how slow cr.lk is in general in this game, I dont think crouch tech would be as strong as in sf4 where some characters have 3 frame low shorts.

I think I am more for it than against it honestly. I do like the current speed, but 3% could make if feel just a tad faster in moving around the screen. I will definitely tune into WNF to be totally sure. I have a feeling I will be totally for the increase in the end. James Chen said the 3% increase will put it more along the lines of Guilty Gear in terms of speed and movement. I could definitely see myself enjoying that.
Did WNF start yet, I want to see this new build.
Per MyLifeIsAJRPG’s post:
Any change in frameskip doesn’t affect links or throw techs or anything else with a window that is shorter than the frameskip interval, as long as there was frameskip to start with.
An example:
If you have a 5f link, and the frameskip is at 9 like in the shipped game, then since 9 > 5 at most ONE of those 5 frames may be dropped, resulting in a possible 4f real-time window. Changing the frameskip to 7f results in still just ONE of those 5 frames being possibly dropped, giving in the same 4f real-time window.
(Reducing the frameskip to a value below 5 would make it possible for two of the 5 frames to be dropped, possibly shortening the window to 3f.)
If there was no frameskip to start with, then adding any may result in a frame being dropped whereas none would be before, shortening the window. Since SG shipped with frameskip, this isn’t an issue. (^.^)
tl;dr version - changing the frameskip from 9 to 7 might shorten any link/tech/etc window LONGER than 7f by 1f extra…which doesn’t really bother me. Things shorter than 7f are unaffected.
@Spider-Dan - nope, crouch techs are intentionally disallowed. I considered any dir+throw = throw like BB has, which would also mean any dir + tech = tech, but decided against it. The rationale was that you can’t crouch-tech in single-button-throw games, and I would like this as much as possible like a single-button-throw game without the OS’s that gives you.
The WNF stream will be live at 8PM PDT.
I’m not gonna be there by 8. :^P
there is one thing you may not be considering here though:
in most single tech throw games the throw is 1 frame startup and generally they have priority over limbs meaning that low/throw isnt such a braindead mixup… its there, but the attacker basically has to be able to overlap the opponents wakeup with an active meaty or make it so that the low is active upon the opponent on the first frame (or so) of coming out of block/hitstun.
in SG, its QUITE EASY to achieve the same thing that in ST was rather hard to do, plus in SG there are more setups for the aforementioned mixup because of all the restands and lack of air back forward tech.
now the thing is, dont get me wrong, i like throws and i really dont have a problem with them staying as powerful as they are. i like to throw and have always liked to throw and wil continue doing so… but still the mixup that is in sullgirls right now is beyond braindead… its about as powerful as crouch tech is in sf4 just in the opposite direction… and hey if thats what you want, so be it.

yes, 10 stars SF2Hyper
Would you consider doing some commentary to explain the rationale behind the current patch changes and the speed update? I’m pretty sure that normal commentary(more or less like last week’s stuff) might not be able to communicate the changes and additions to the game as well as you might and WNF gets a pretty large audience. Even fifteen minutes of commentary would be lovely and arriving late might even work a bit in your favor since we always get stragglers on streams.
Thanks
eat some dinner, mr. z
You can crouch tech in ST (okay soften), Alpha 2 (soften again), Vampire… I don’t have enough experience with other 1 button throw games to say about those but it’s far from a universal rule.
edit: My testing (aka holding P1 downback and hitting HP while I hold P2 toward and hit HP) indicates you can do it in XvSF too.
This is godlike. I want this new game. Please do not undo this change. Thank you.
Man, seeing it on stream is pretty tough to judge. It looks significantly faster, but the flow seems very similar. I guess my opinion doesn’t change, but I get the feeling that people will be able to adjust fairly easily.
Was leaning in favor before, but after seeing it, I’m all for it now.
I would just like to say that the new patch changes look amazing! The speed is soooo good looking in the wnf stream. I also very very much love the change to assist knockdowns. I don’t know if that came from my post about it or not but thank you so much anyway!
I can’t wait.
Dude…how do I change my vote? I voted no, but I WANT IT NOW.
I voted no.
I should’ve said yes. >_>
With this new assist knockdown change is Double’s buttslam still untechable knockdown?
