Partners for Roll

Yeah sorry for one last post about chassern but I was testing my assist heal setup and it almost always hits casshern instead of roll. I dunno how I was even hitting roll in the first place really, unless you hit it late, at which point they can get up and then the safeness is iffy, although I think it’s still safe cuz the tail end of the assist hits them when they stand.

The roll/yatter combo is really nice, if only for that turbo sweep>firebreath combo they have. The firebreath hardly scales at all so you get some really nice damage off of it, better than the casshern :dp::2p: DHC if i recall, and then you always have the option to cancel back into the roll sweep for a tiny bit of unsafe damage.

I was really hoping there’d be more viable combo supers to help get roll her heal, but there’s not too many. Ken’s works, and Megaman’s gets him the heal, but other than that there’s really nothing that I can think of. Unfortunately, I’m no good at ken, so I use Casshern.

One person who has been left out of discussion who deserves a look is Doronjo. Seems like everybody uses her here in Japan, and the combo super lets you get a free setup on somebody after any turbo roll sweep. If they try and hit you after your super, they’ll probably get hit with the boulder, and if they try to block it, you get a free guessing game with them hidden behind it. Her assist is kind of garbagey, but at least it stays on the screen for a while for defensive purposes.

Are you sure? I was almost positive I tagged Casshern in again. Then again, it may explain why I’m having trouble repeating it and I remembered wrong. In that case, the only add on to the combo is the Roll Sweep Baroque Roll Sweep.

But yeah, let’s leave Casshern and hit some other characters.

I’m wondering which of Karas or Souki is better at team synergy with Roll. Right now, I’m leaning with Karas but I’m asking if anyone has tried Souki with her.

I was actually wondering why Roll is a good teammate with Karas. What kind of synergy do they share?

The only thing I’ve figured so far is that you can do DHC with Roll’s healing and Karas’ super… although I tend to get lost on whether the healing ball actually drops or hits…

Haven’t sat down and tried Souki so I have nothing on him.

Yeah they’ve got two potentially useful DHCs off of her healing super, also his assist is really nice for her, as it helps out a bunch with her problems at range. You actually have to wait until the ball hits her to cancel it tho, anton. The screen will pause for the life gauge to fill and then once things start moving again you have to cancel it right away.

That is a very good point on Karas’ assist. It does have a delay before he starts the actual attack, but it’s got good range. I’ll try to wait a bit on the healing.

Some Roll/Yattaman talk now. I didn’t mean to kill the thread by suggesting we talk about other partners aside from Casshern, but it feels like I did. :sweat:

Lol, alright Yatterman. You can use his assist to add a little extra damage to a standing roll sweep if you call it right when you start the sweep. This means you could use it in her standing combos like so.

:snka:,:snkb:,:snkc:, roll sweep(:snka:) , xxBBQxx :snka:,:snkb:,:snkc: roll sweep(:snka:) :snkd:(immediately), Turbo Roll Sweep (at this point you’re almost certainly in the corner) Turbo roll sweep again, :qcb::2p: (only with p1 yatterman) and then if they’re almost dead (which they probably are) Turbo roll sweep a third time.

4 Bars but easily kills karas outright and messes up everybody else pretty bad depending on baroque. BTW, does baroque effect assist damage?

His assist is also kinda nice for roll just in general since it adds some quick range to her arsenal. The DHCs are nice, but you can’t really use his assist to keep an OTG sweep safe.

I think baroque resets assist. The combo in this vid wasn’t even that long time-wise.

You can only DHC twice, but the thing about roll is, if you hit a standing turbo sweep and it ends in the corner, the super ends, and you can hit them OTG with a second turbo sweep before they have a chance to get up, so you can in fact start the second turbo sweep, and then DHC it twice.

Also necro, he calls the assist right before he starts the combo, that’s why it becomes available during the combo.

Okay, not to jump off topic, but this makes me feel better. If it’s true that Baroque resets your assist, then couldn’t this combo work? When I was told that it was impossible, I was confused because I swore I got it to work.

So who is the best teammate for roll? I saw a roll/yattaman team this past weekend that looked sweet, I also see that casshern is a pretty good teammate. Any ideas?

I’m new to this game, but I’m all about Roll. If I can find a steady team to work with, I think I can move farther into the game.

Maybe even a top 3 best partners would be cool. I think Saki might be worth looking into… Well, anyway, any tips would be greatly appreciated XD

best 3 partners for roll is most likely yatta casshern and doronjo

yatta for shear damage with dhc puddles in the right spot can give yatterman quick unblockables. his alpha counter seems really fast and that might help get roll out of bad situations safely and lead into good damage.

assist isnt too great probubly good against zoning characters though. doesn’t give free charges as easily as close to every other assists would.

I am playing team Yatterroll right now and i think its great.

cash gives roll safe ground turbo and his assist is just awesome for her. ups damage makes approach easier if it hits them in the air while your approaching you get swat down super. helps cashern unblockable.

i havent used dornjo yet but a free boulder is nice from what i hear so damage wise she might even be at yatter level but i don’t really know much about her, I bet puddles improve her throw a bunch of stuff on the screen stratagy. She builds meter well.

honorable mention is Tekkaman
you lose the safe OTG super but that dhc is good. and she can heal or go into air combos better with his assist.

Saki and roll can both be meter hogs so i am not sure if puddles for saki and safe dhc for roll is worth that kind of kink. if Saki with loaded unblockable shot (with rolls assist) is better than i think it is, this could be a really good team for her but i really dont see poeple randomly loading it up in the videos ive watched. helps sakis unblockables but not as well as beams or bullets do to range limitations.

ive only really played with roll yatta tekka and cash Though.

MegaMan is decent as a partner too. You guys had said so yourself in the “Clean House” thread. :wink:
Assist gets her launcher, good distance game, builds meter well, heal is interchangable if needed. Pretty decent.

Megaman is good. I was actually messing around with the two of them just recently here and the heal setups are pretty awesome for the two of them.

  1. (charge) :d::snka:,:d::snkb:,:d::snkc:,:qcf::snkc:,:qcb: :2p: (wait for heal) :qcb::2p: This has to be done fairly precisely but it heals roll and hits with the machine gun super.

  2. :d::snka:x2-3 (for confirm) :snkd:,:d::snkb:,:qcb::2p: Safe heal on megaman, combo with his assist.

  3. :r::snkb:,:qcb::2p:,:snkd:(quickly) team up super, hits the machine gun super off of overhead and heals megaman.

And team up machine gun/sweep supers are too much fun. Unfortunately, once again, OTG turbo sweeps become unsafe.

Heeey Shiki, I was playing a bunch in the arcades today and pretty much cleaning house until a Roll/Yatter player came along and started taking me to school for a couple games before I caught on and eventually we started trading games.

The thing he did that I hadn’t seen before, other than just some wicked yatter pressure that I eventually started getting around with casshern :bdp::snka: was that he actually healed on a DHC off of firebreath super. Try as I might, I couldn’t make it over fast enough to punish roll if this was hit from midscreen with either Casshern or Roll. I dunno what characters this works against (I’m assuming it varies), but this along with the normal high damage DHCs was really good.

cool its probubly better than going for the damage if your not going to kill them since its not safe for roll. is it safe against switching though? i wouldn’t want them to gain back all that red health unless i can dish it back again to their partner.

I don’t think it’s safe against projectiles (switching), but I couldn’t get a combo off of it for anything. I guess just gauge the situation.
