Only one version of console 3rd strike has been released in the UK/Europe which is the version on the Anniversary Collection for the original Xbox. From what I’ve heard this is the worst port of the game and the main complaint is that it’s way too fast compared to the PS2 port (only released in america and japan). I have the Xbox (PAL) version.
Because of this I was wondering if it would make the experience more closer to the arcade version, if I set the parrying speed to 1* in the system direction? Of course the arcade version is the only one worth playing seriously but in the UK no one seems to play the game in the two London arcades I have access to, and the ones that do play would destroy me. Parrying seems to come much more naturally to me on this setting whereas before I had to work really hard just to use this game-defining mechanic. I’m not saying I’m a parrying god on this setting but I can at least parry simple things like roundhouse jump ins and slower things like Urien tackle without having to work extremely hard for it like before.
Unfortunately I can’t use GGPO/2DF because I only have a Mac which doesn’t support it.I do have Mame for mac which runs 3rd strike perfectly but does not recognize the roundhouse/RT button on my Madcatz TE. This is the only Mame program I can get working but there is no point in using it to play fighting games if theres no RH.
Another question, does such a thing as an XBOX 360 to PS2 converter exist? I’ve got quite a few fighters on PS2 I’d like to learn how to play with a stick but I don’t want to spend any more money on sticks.
TLDR:In the Xbox version of 3s, Will setting the parrying allowance to 1* in System direction make Parrying closer to what it’s like in the arcade/ps2 versions.
Also no, setting the parrying speed at 1 just makes it harder, it doesn’t slow the game down… Also if you playing any tourneys in the UK we’ll all be using the xbox version anyway so learn that.
OK thanks, but I thought UK tourneys used imported PS2’s? The last one I saw they were playing on a PS2. Also the arcades that have 3rd strike are Trocadero and Casino outside of Goodge Street station.
I’m working on getting a copy of Windows to do it first.
Tournies in the UK use the PS2 version so what you said isn’t true.
And Cheech wizard you can use an imported PS2 or use swap magic if you have a PS2 or even get a hard drive. There are so many ways of playing 3rd strike on the PS2 in the UK it isn’t even an issue anymore. You could also try using GGPO
Ok thanks for the replies. It turns out I haven’t even been playing on 1* anyway. I set it to that setting once and forgot that the game doesn’t save settings automatically so I assumed it was still on. I guess I just improved my Parry timing.
Yes… and it’s even worse on the XBOX 360. It’s way faster, the sound is shitty (well I guess it is on all console versions) and it lags BADLY when u super jump. Just to name a few glitches.
