Yeah Bryan, i think too that a “package bundle” deal would really help. Just so people know what things they need for the setups, it can be very intimidating and confusing to figure out wiring logistics and such…
i’ve yet to try those Jyueeang buttons, but cheap alternative sounds great. I can also recommend PS-14-K’s with sanwa SW-68’s , i would have been rockin’ this setup too if it weren’t for the X-busters on the KN’s
I am thinking of making a video showing the installation, pretty sure I can do start to finish on my panel in under 15 mins, buttons preintalled.
I will try to set that up I think people will be shocked at how easy this is to do.
I’ve tried the Jyueeangs in the past, and they were pretty nice of a button. The stiffness of the button was weird because it wasn’t as stiff as a seimitsu yet not as light as a sanwa, but after a while I got used to it. The only thing i didn’t like was that the tabs were really hard to push to get out of my top panel, and some were a little harder to get pushed in. Well at least they didn’t break like sanwa clear tabs…
BTW Armi, is the Black Top Hollow Shaft the same as the Shaft in your LED Joysticks?
Definitely! I think i might need to find some levers since thanks to seimitsu sticks I always put levers on my microswitches. I’ve never gotten to use a stick with cherry in awhile, and even then the last time I played on one was for a solid 10 minutes…
Would it be possible to do a shaft for those with similar dimensions to a JLF hollow shaft? I would love for some shaft covers for more bling, and for a balltop with the standard thread.
They feel similar to an LS-56, with a much longer shaft and multiple gates similar to the 3 in 1 gates for the LS-32. Short throw, relatively quick engage, stiff spring (doesn’t feel as stiff as a 56, but you can swap it out with JLF Springs). They do have a larger shaft and require balltops with a larger thread, hence why I would want to get a shaft that is a tad shorter and can support standard balltops and shaft covers. I currently have mine with levered omron switches and it feels great! A little bit of deadzone wiggle room (but what joystick doesn’t have that?) but that and the shaft compatibility are the only things i have against them, both of which can be remedied by a tighter spring and a different shaft.
The plan is to modify the stick to have a custom gate, 2 different actuators, and a JLF’esque hollow shaft (I do like the suggestion of making it compatible with shaft covers etc)
We are probably going to move to Cherry or Zippy Micros, Zippys would be cheaper if people want to mod, these do not require levered micros for actuation.
The goal is a very shallow stick that has a highly adjustable feel and the hollow shaft included for around the cost of a JLF. So instead of the JLF, plus a hollow shaft, plus actuators, plus springs… etc you would get all this for around the same cost.
To test out the stick, the basic stick as it stands is pretty cheap in the store, only 9.50 http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/imported-joysticks/672-black-top.html
We have consistently received very good feedback on these sticks, so I think using them as the basis for a very low cost universal stick (led, spring tension, actuator, etc) would be good.
As much as I do like the custom gates, I rarely ever use mine, particularly since I don’t have have a need for limited cardinal directions (plus they add to the amount of screws). Usually I play without the gate. However I really like the current switches in them though. The only reason I replaced them was so that I could have levered switches, something seimitsu sticks have gotten me addicted to. As for the actuators, would they be bigger or smaller as they are now, or have a longer or shorter throw?
probably go for a shorter throw and maybe a longer
The custom gate would be mainly to just reduce depth, I can cut almost .25" off the depth by simply swapping the gate, the geometry of the actuation will probably not change.
I think this is a solid platform and I’m trying to position it as an entry for people to start modding joysticks. Once you spend almost 25 on JLF, most people don’t want to drop the shaft, switch the actuator etc. But if I can give people the ability to tinker for less than 25, I think a lot more people will be comfortable tweaking their sticks.
I’ve looked at them before but never knew much about them so I stayed away. I think I will pick one up if you get the shaft changed to accept common balltops.
We are working on it. When we converted to the new site some of the pics didn’t come over. Plus we’ve been adding like crazy… right now we have dozens of pics that need to be posted, and not time to post! We will keep going though, no worries!
Our dropbox folder, with all the new pics since June, has 3500 pictures… kind of crazy, but we will keep going. The goal is to have everything updated for November 1 when we move to Phase A/E
