The problem is fitting the standard Korean joystick into the standard Hori or Mad Catz joystick case.
I’m sorry, but that’s by far the HUGE bulk of joystick cases you see at tournaments outside of South Korea. That’s who most of the non-Korean parts vendors are building for.

It’s a pain-and-a-half to try and fit Myoungshin Fanta’s into Hori/Mad Catz cases which is why the new Crown CWJ-303A was developed in mind for the Japanese-style cases. When you tell most people they have to do such-and-such case mod to fit in non-Japanese parts, their eyes glaze over with non-comprehension (that’s well over half the SRK “members” – most who join to find out where things are sold and then cut out never to be heard from again(!)), OR if they have a vague idea of the mod work involved they cut and run through the wall like most sane people would (LOL)!

It’s no fun to cut cases or drill new holes into faceplates to accommodate joysticks with very different specs than the JLF or Seimitsu line. (Heck, it wasn’t fun cutting drilling holes through metal faceplates to accommodate LS-32’s and LS-40’s in my non-universal HRAP’s, either!) Crown has won the very small Korean import market here with the CWJ-303A unless people a) go ahead and mod their cases for the Myoungshin Fanta; or b) buy an equipped, Korean-style joystick case.

I think most people go with the less-complicated, less-involved solution for their needs at least 85% of the time. There are only a few nuts like me who walk in the exact opposite direction because a) we don’t know better; b) we don’t care what everybody else is doing 'cuz we’re individualists to begin with; and c) the simple things are more confusing to us!

There’s not such a big market for these parts in the US or Europe for that matter.
The Korean parts have a reputation of being “Tekken joysticks” and that works against them when most people are playing non-Tekken fighters. It’s a stereotype, yes, but unfortunately people make a lot of economic and personal decisions based on stereotypes.

The reviews on the parts and function with many of the non-Tekken games have been mixed at best from I’ve seen on SRK, too. The Fantas and Crowns are definitely an acquired taste.
I’m not dismissing that there is a crowd of people who love Korean parts but I don’t think it’s anywhere near as big as the number of people who prefer Seimitsu to Sanwa… and even that’s dwarfed by the love for Sanwa which is admittedly overshadowed by the fact that most people will never change the OEM parts in their joystick case let alone mod it because they don’t want to pay more money out of pocket on a joystick they spent at least $80 for… and guess who the big OEM supplier for most joystick manufacturers is now??? Answer: Sanwa for the vast majority of Japanese and Chinese pro-line joysticks. Even Hori doesn’t show much love for Seimitsu outside of a very few limited edition run HRAP’s for the PS3 and XBox 360 joysticks intended (most likely) to be used for 2-D, traditional side-scrolling shooters.

Today was a rollercoaster of emotions thanks to you guys :stuck_out_tongue:
I got an email while I was out playing fgs today about the hold up with the machine, and that my order was processing, but when I got home my silencers had arrived! popped one set in the buttons going into my brothers custom, and they feel nicer than the sanwas, about to put another set into one of my complete cases and test them, thanks for all the work you guys do with cool custom stuff like this! (Sadly no candy with my silencers :frowning: I’ll be sure to make a bigger order next time to get some!)

Incase anyone hasnt noticed, PA has the ltd edition colored ps-14’s from last year. Aqua, magenta, navy blue and olive drab green!

Ok, I understand what you are saying from the customer point of view… after all no one like to spend more money in something that is ready to use.

Now, from a seller’s point of view, well, yes, everybody will go with the mainstream and very few sellers like or want to take the risk with less popular parts, after all, its the business what’s important and is their money what is in risk, so I believe they will go with the safe option with korean parts.

And just because Crown has a flat mounting plate that reduces the effort to put it into a Hori or Mad Catz case it doesn’t means it is better than Fanta, maybe the feeling is almost the same but Myoungshins are far better, I have tried some Crowns (flat and with collar) and both Fantas and I found the Myoungshin works better for almost all the games that I play, not only for Tekken or Soul Calibur.

And now from a builder’s point of view, it doesn’t matter if the stick comes with a flat mounting plate or not, we can adapt ourselves to almost every circumstances. But of course, not everyone knows how to mod a stick, as you said, more than half of the fighting games enthusiasts know nothing about mods to fight sticks and is reasonable that they want to go with the easy way. I made a mod to a Myoungshin so I could use it without the collar and it works flawlessly.

And one last thing, Armi is one of the few sellers that is actually filling the US market with more custom made parts, so I don’t see too difficult for him to make a custom flat mounting plate for korean sticks (like the one from Crown) if the market ask for it.

I agree with you in the fact that Sanwa is all over the world and I clearly see why, all the products they made are by far the best in quality, but not all the gamers think the same way, so is good to have options and even better if they are closer to us and right know I don’t know of any seller that has korean parts in they catalog for the US market, so it will be good to see who of the two major US sellers have them quickly.

Just waiting for a quote back on a universal adapter plate…
If any one wants to use it to test out an old school ms Pac joystick in their fight stick, let me know
Fearless and George, keep the debates alive

Hey! I’m having some problems with the silent stick kits I bought and I was hoping I could get some help!

Both the pre-assembled and also the kits for silent sticks (omron) are giving me problems with the diagonal directions. :frowning:

The cardinals work just fine, but registering two switches at once for a diagonals doesn’t work well at all. I thought that maybe I seated the switches wrong, but even the pre-assembled complete stick has the same problem?

Any ideas as to how I can fix this? Am I doing something wrong with the harness somehow (I don’t see how? ) is it something with the actuator? Did I just get a bunch of duds and some bad luck?

Not sure what to do here. . Any help from anyone would be mucho appreciated.

To hit diagonals you must use an oversized actuator

So what’s going on now???

If they don’t have the part to fit what the customer wants in his joystick case, you’ll make it or find one that WILL make it fit???

What are you trying to do—??? Supply actually good customer service! LOL

P.S. – I am sorry I forgot to say this already but my condolences on the passing of your lovely spouse’s grandmother passing. The longer around someone is in the family, the harder the impact is. That’s true for extended, close friends, and pets, too…

This isn’t mentioned anywhere on the site, and I assume the kits would’ve come with it if it was absolutely required… right?

Plus, for the pre-assembled kit that came with the extra actuator - it still won’t pick the the diagonal, even if I use the extra actuator.

Which size are you using? I’m using the 1.0mm (gold) actuator with the silent Omrons on my QanBa and it seems fine (although I use a 0.5mm (red) one normally so may, admittedly, just be more used to it)…

The actuators are used in the Omron Kits, If one wasn’t included we’ll get that out to you, just email Susan.

In regards to the actual stick, It is usually shipped with the black actuator in place and includes the other actuators. What gates are you using? Make sure you don’t have the square gate set to a diamond orientation.

Wait, the red oversized actuator is included with the purchase of this? http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/microswitches/531-silent-jlf-modification-zippy-0855742005314.html

Also, is the wiring harness (in the picture) included as well?

With the zippy no, it’s not needed, it is included with the Omron upgrade

What microswitches do iL sticks and buttons normally come with? They were cherry ones when I originally bought some from Lizard Lick way back when (though I guess different models between the buttons and the stick??). One died on the stick, and it looks crazy expensive to buy them separate - the difference between 4 cherry switches and a brand new iL eurostick with 4 switches is 2 dollars!

Where do you see that? the ps-14g section is completely empty

Yep, tried the red actuator that came with the full pre-assembled stick, still won’t register the corner at all. . like I can hold it in the corner and it just keeps walking.

As for the actual upgrade kits, they didn’t come with any actuators at all.

I guess I need some actuators? But that still doesn’t explain what’s goin on with the stick that HAS that red actuator?

d’oh. :frowning:

Replacing a Cherry has become very expensive since Happ stopped using them. I am pretty sure we are about half the price of Happ right now. We do have some bulk deals but the MOQ from Cherry is 10k and our margins are very slim on those.

NOS, email a picture of the bottom of your stick to me, and I’ll take a look. It sounds like the acutator is set to 4 way.

Just wanted to pop in and say that with your level of customer service, you’ve definitely made a repeat customer out of me!

Can’t wait to order a ton of Korea (and all else for that matter). Stay up, thanks for everything, and shoot Sus’ my condolences.

Really looking forward to the Seimitsu line up you have for us! Hope all is well.

It’s definitely not in 4 way… It appears the preassembled stick just has a wonky switch? It’s only a single diagonal that doesn’t want to work.

I’m also having problems with some of the zippy kits… it seems I need a larger actuator? It registers the corners, but not 100%… If I pick a single direction, and gradually go to a corner, it won’t register. I need to slam it in the corner to get it to register both directions.
