We have noticed a number of questions asked on other pages or forum threads and not sure they have been answered. So instead of PM’s and other methods we are going to answer them.

The question came up about the mounting hole pattern for JLW joysticks. JLW’s we being sold when the upright machines were still popular. Common sticks at the time were IL Eurosticks which were the Happ Competition Sticks before Happ moved production to China. The mounting patter on a standard Happ or IL, commonly known as an American Stick, matched with the outer round holes shown in the attached drawing of a JLW plate. The inner slanted holes of the JLW match with the LS-32 and the outer holes on the JLF stock plate.

The comment was made that these fit ā€œjamma cabinetsā€. That’s a bit of misnomer. Jamma is the style of wiring used for a cabinet and joystick mounting patterns were independent of this. For example, the Capcom Impress Cabinet used stock JLF mounts, but is Jamma, where as many Neo Geo cabinets did not use Jamma harnessing but used American stick style mounts.

Most 90’s and beyond wooden US based cabinets (especially Dynamos) have standard American style mounting and lend themselves to JLW, but will not support a JLF easily… without one of our new Universal Plate adapters. Conversely, a JLW can easily be installed in a fight stick using our Universal mounts.

JLW’s are popular for people who want a mix of fight stick and classic feel. These were the standard for years until the JLF was released. They have been my stick of choice for situations where I want to have something solid that allows for easy conversion between 8 way and 4 way mode.

This is a popular stick, and always has been, as well as it’s clones. We have carried Sanwa brand for 4 years now, Ultimarc has carried these as a stand alone and as their J-stick and Ultrastick since the dawn of time (more recently the Servostick is based on these), Groovy Game Gear a knock off they call the Omni 2 that they have had for 2 years, these were standard fair from Lizard Lick (where I bought my first JLW at Chads recommendation for a classic project) and more recently Focus Attack has added them to the line up.

This is more than a business to us, it’s a hobby and a passion. I have installed every product in our store at lease once…

The JLW is actually one of my favorite Joysticks.

I like JLWs also. Great stick, very underrated.

These were one of the first sticks I stocked in the store because I used them on almost every cabinet I built up. Coincidentally these were the standard stick Jesse at Voltech used which is why… our harnesses do not have the JLF cables wrapped.

nice work Jasen!

@emphatic, our vendor asked… How many do we need?

If the new PS4/Xbox One pcb can support a 1ms mode like the McCthulhu does with firmware, decreasing USB cable’s 15ms latency to 1ms it would be ideal.

WTF dude. Please don’t spam us with things you know nothing about.

@armi0024 - Can you tell us what Cherry switches will come in the new PAS joystick? This is the shallow stick we’re talking about, right? Been waiting for this thing for a while.

D44X switches… no levers

Here is the status - Body, done in stock
Springs, done in stock
Mounting plate, can you say universal plate (we are going to allow for options but the standard will come with the small universal, however no charge for changing to an X-arcade or similar to allow for American mounting)
Actuator, adjustable, being finished now, should be available in 1-2 weeks
Shaft, hollow 6mm standard, should be done in 1 week

I don’t know how these will compare with the Hayabusa, but we are targeting a price point of under $25. Probably comparable to JLF pricing but, it will include all the above features.

Aren’t there like 8 switches with the D44X housing mark???

D44XQ1AA

Cool. I like em stiff. LoL.

What about part interchangeability with the PAS stick? Can we use JLF/old HORI shafts? Will it fit into a cheapo HORI fightstick (Tekken 6 for example):

Is that a Dreamcast Agetec stick?

No, not a Dreamcast arcade stick. I’ve modded three of those so I know what an unmodded Agetec looks like! (That and I have pictures from the last mod I did of an Agetec.) The Agetec/Dreamcast joystick case mount area for the joystick is recessed around a half-inch minimum into the interior of the DC joystick case. It’s one of the features of the Agetec case that makes it a pain to mod. You have to cut all that plastic if you want to use anything but a JLF in the DC joystick case. There are ways around cutting all that plastic but I haven’t seen or heard of a way to avoid cutting plastic that will let you have tournament shaft clearance height above the faceplate… Besides, if you want to be able to mount more than a JLF in an Agetec joystick case, you really do want to go to the bother of creating a universal mount space that will let you fasten the JLF and LS-joystick mounting plates onto the case.

The four internal posts in the joystick interior pictured are lined up with the screws that are used to hold the Hori OEM joystick onto the case… presuming it IS a Hori Fighting Stick or Tekken 6 wireless. The convenience of the post pole positions is that they line up nicely with several holes in the JLF restrictor gate base. It’s a very simple gate mod to drill so that the existing Hori OEM joystick screws can be reused with the JLF… That’s how people were able to fit JLF’s into the Tekken 5 joysticks and Fighting Sticks without using the Sanwa JLF Mounting Plate. It’s a Hori design feature that they repeat on their non-HRAP joystick cases again and again… Of course, Hori never meant for people to go ahead and install JLF’s in the non-HRAP joysticks!

There’s only two Fighting Sticks that I’m aware that do use Sanwa parts – the Persona 4 Fighting Stick and the Hori N3 SA Fighting Stick which confused the hell out of me because of the fact that the HRAP N3 SA also exists!

Hori’s stick naming. Smh. After you figure out what it’s all about you understand but to the uninitiated it can be confusing. The new PAS stick is designed specifically for case that are thin. It will be the shallowest install depth of any production joystick if I’m not mistaken. It will be perfect for FS cases and the like. I’ve been sitting on an FS3 case specifically for this joystick.

ITS PIKACHU

@emphatic I would need the dimensions but I don’t think we have a direct match for that. that is not to say that when we run another batch we can’t add more holes!

@iNENDOiā€Œ you are correct. The goal of this stick is shallow (~1cm shallower than a JLF), Lightable (hollow shaft), tuneable (adjustable actuator), reliable (Cherry D44X switches) and versatile (Universal mounting plates)

Making it bolt directly on to the mount that @emphaticā€Œ posted would allow a no-dremel install on Hori FS cases. That would be superb.
