Most likely not. People get their shit jacked at events all the fucking time.
It’s just you only hear about it when someone big in the community gets their shit jacked.
Wouldn’t it be helpful if more people (like the people who attended the event) were told the description of the person that Jan saw? That’ll increase the chance of someone recognizing or remembering someone like that at the event or near the venue.
Guards don’t leave armored vehicles unguarded while they contain money. Treat your possessions like cash, don’t take your eyes off them, and keep it with you.
It is not Panda’s fault he was robbed; it is however his fault that he failed to minimise the impact. Don’t leave your personal shit on your laptop. Why isn’t that backed up and secured away at home?
Why would you pack up the car the night before and leave your personal laptop out of reach overnight? My father never packed early when we were on vacation, we always packed up the car as we were ready to leave.
Why would you not use MarkMan’s experience as a caution?
Yeah whoever it is is not that smart though. Sloppy enough to be spotted while doing it and he or she is pretty much narrowed down already to someone who attended the event. They will eventually get themselves caught if they try to keep it up. They’ll get baited and punished lol.
In gaming environments, only loss I endured was a coat at the arcade in the 90’s.
I know who stole it and he is part of the fighting community. Since then, I have zero tolerance for hoods.
Had a similar situation happen with a friend where we got to Final Round the year SFIV came out on consoles. Went to go get drinks then came back and parked the car to play in teams for 3rd Strike. Came back outside car was gone. Didn’t come back till Sunday and it was parked not too far from the venue. Of course he had laptop, camera and a bunch of clothes that were all stolen from the vehicle. Only reason they were able to drive with the car was because he stupidly had a spare key in glove compartment.
Moral of the story is the instant you get to a tournament venue unload everything into the hotel room. If valuables are visible in your car the worst can happen. Otherwise have someone manning the vehicle at all times if you do have something valuable in there.
Let’s keep it civil at least. Even my explosion I tried to avoid direct insults.
On one hand, I totally think this could be a great idea and makes a ton of sense. On the other hand, I kind of worry it could lead to several problems:
Witch hunting people and accusing them unjustly and possibly damaging their reputation through continued suspicion even after the issue is resolved.
and/or
Causing the person who did the action to hide even deeper due to risk of being recognized, thus potentially letting them get away.
I’m not certain which is right and which is wrong though. I think you do make a lot of sense.
This is GD. Thats as tame as I can possibly be. I originally had a profanity laced post about where that guy can put a cactus covered in hot sauce. I settled for what I wrote instead.
Gotta say, despite the arguments and such quite proud of people. GoFundMe sits at 5,430 at the moment. Hopefully if he doesn’t hit 6k it’ll be enough to get some streaming equipment for Mid-West Championships.
