See the Vegas thread a bit before and after this post here for most of the discussion on this event. I’ll cross post my thoughts here:
Consolized greatness
I guess that means we’re ready for arcade gaming. If you guys want it at the next tournament, convince Macc to change the date.
As previously stated, this was the best local tournament experience for me for as long as I’ve been in Vegas. Macc and staff did an awesome job. I love the venue for the most part, 8 wire staff included. These guys seem really chill, especially the “DJ” spinning all the hits. I hope they see this or know otherwise that they are appreciated.
Thanks for everyone that came out to play and hopefully stay as part of our fledgling community. You are definitely needed and appreciated, even if you only play SSF4. Hopefully you guys will branch out to better games in the future eventually when SSF4 dies.
Constructive criticism time:
The place is pretty cramped with the floor plan as-is. I like Macc’s plan to use where he sat for registration as a row for game stations. Hopefully 8 wire is on board with that. We can probably look into streaming the game video to one of the bigger TVs if we do that. And I’m definitely gonna bring some folding chairs to use instead of the rolling computer chairs.
Definitely need more game stations in general. That was the #1 delay, especially in a slow moving tournament game like SSF4. There’s no reason we can’t get a 30+ person bracket banged out in a matter of a few hours.
If small turnouts continue for some of the other games that no one came out for this time, can’t we justify replacing them with older games that I know people do care for? I’m talking about 3s/cvs2 potentially being a part of the lineup if no one comes out for stuff like T6 - sorry Connor. If the new stuff isn’t drawing, I see no reason not to try the proven stuff that people still seem to enjoy playing anyways. No reason to neglect good games just because they are not the new stuff. This isn’t Evo and we don’t even know what Evo is doing yet anyways.
Whoever is asking for HDR over ST makes me :shake:. See above for my rationale on this. Fuck getting with the times when the new times suck. If you don’t understand why HDR is far inferior, I invite you to read the ST general forum or to speak constructively with anyone around the age of 30 that likes good Street Fighter games. Blanket statements about games you don’t even understand are stupid, much like random neckbeards.
Otherwise, let’s get this shit going bigger and better for next time and beyond. I’m really glad that people enjoyed mvc2, but a little sad that it took Hevad to sponsor the entry and prize money just to get some competition going. This is another good game that actually happens to be available for current gen hardware - no reason not to at least try it out. Only thing is don’t expect to be playing tournament matches on anything but Dreamcast. We’ll do our best to accommodate people that learned and play best on non-Happ parts, but I’m almost certainly not gonna run on anything but Dreamcast. For about 6 years this has been the standard for 99% of mvc2 tournaments - I’m not changing this just to play an inferior port.
Good games to everyone I played. Peopo, you got me in ST because you’re a good overall Street Fighter player and I also fucked up some stuff on my end. And Chun is a beast in ST - top 5 character, easily IMO. Don’t act surprised that you did well, because I’m not. Anyone that understands proper SF fundamentals and discipline should do well in ST, even without a ton of experience. The experience comes into play when matches are tight and you reach higher level comp where the available tricks become more relevant. If you want to play with us, let me know and I can try to arrange some ST practice sessions. Especially now that the supergun is operational.
See you fools next gathering/tournament/etc.
