Painwheel - Combo Guide and Discussion

"The cr.mk shown in the video to OTG with Valentine is techable, but is possible to time it so they can’t tech it. This is just to show the potential damage of the DHC, but is not optimized at all yet.

[LEFT]Painwheel’s combo could probably improve, and using my third character’s assist (Napalm Pillar), I might get more damage. Also, if I later see the cr.mk is to hard to land the untechable OTG with, I might upload a video with a cr.lk used instead once I optimize the combo more (it still TODs if you use cr.lk instead).[/LEFT]

Alright I tested it, the timing needs to be changed from light character to heavy characters, but it’s universal for light and heavy. (Peacock, Valentine, Filia have the same timing, Cerebella, Parasoul, Painwheel have the same timing, etc.)

So here it is:

j.MK > Fly > j.MK > cr.MK > cr.HP > Fly > UF+j.MK > Fly > j.MK > cr.MK > cr.HP > QCF+HK > cr.LK > cr.MK > HK(3) > j.MP(4) > Fly > F+j.LP > j.MK > LK > cr.MK > cr.HP > Fly > UF+j.HK(5) > cr.MP(4) > HK(3) > j.HP(3) > j.HK(3-5) > cr.LP > MK(3) > HK(3) > j.LK > j.MK > j.HK(2-5) > LP > MK(3) > HP > QCF+LP > F+HKx4 > DD+K(No mash) > QCF+PP= 9.8K-10K it’s iffy because of all the j.HK hits.

I think this is what everyone should be using now, it works on everyone, with only small changes on weight classes.

Just one problem I’m having with BnBs being posted (it seems I’m the only one =S) is that it would be better to post notation and damage from a light starter. Even if you start your BnB with a jump-in, wouldn’t it be better to post it with a j.MP opener or something you are actually like to be hitting often in a match. j.MK > j.MK might be good for damage, but it really is not that greatest or most reliable opener. At least unless I’m missing something major, going by its meh hitbox and a lot of testing during live matches, j.MK should rarely be used like that. It functions as an instant overhead with a flight cancel, but to be honest I’d rather go to j.LK or even j.HK for consistency. For actually jump ins and not mixups, j.MP really seems to be the best option.

EDIT: @ Eraldo, a great thing about Painwheel’s throw is you don’t usually have to make massive changes to your basic combos off a throw. Can get pretty huge damage even midscreen off throws, with how strong throws are in general in this game, I have got a lot of mileage out of them in matches so far.

Is it safe to assume this combo is corner only?

Can a c.mp really connect with a c.hp, I can’t seem to get them to chain.

Nope, cr.MP doesn’t combo into cr.HP.

How would you guys describe Painwheel as? Rush down, zoner, etc?

I’m so bad at Painwheel, flight cancelling is quite frustrating when it doesn’t come out some times.

However was able to do Urichinan’s bnb in the corner at least after 4 hours, now to start back from square one of doing it midscreen. ><

I have to say Pain is alot harder than Valentine, not bad for first true training day with her though.

Rushdown, pressure. Constant flight cancels to mixup the opponent at close range with high lows and even side to side. Super armor air normals that the opponent has to respect.

Question about Pinion Dash lv3 or up. When Pinion Dash v3 or higher makes contact does, is it hitbox remain active or not? Im speculating if so can one hit more targets with it.

@ the Urichian combo posted a few posts above, what do you do when you hit a Painwheel, or a Ms. Fortune? Painwheel drops out of the combo for me at J.mk xx fly, J.mk. And Fortune drops out at J.mk, Cr.mk, Cr.Hp due to distance or something (only explaination I can think of since I can hit Cr.Mk chained into Cr.Hp up close, but near/at max distance it doesn’t combo…) I can get the full combo on the rest of the cast, just not these two.

I’ve never had a problem with them, I time them exactly the same as the other characters. You need to make sure you’re doing UF+j.MK > Fly > F+j.MK, not just a falling j.MK.

EDIT: I managed to extend the damage even more on my corner combo, I got it to 10.5-10.7K, still with only one meter. However, with 5 meter, I think I can get a ToD.

You guys have any good combos after a c.HK hit-confirm?
