Painting tutorial

Well I use a 6x8. I think that may be the perfect size for what you see here. More easy to control strokes that way compared to an overly sized tablet. Right now I still use the int2 6x8. The int 3 6x8 is nice also, but I’ll wait for a better upgrade as i think this version isn’t enough for me to go out and get a new one. Hope that helps.

That’s great, thanks.

That opening sketch in the first picture. Was that a scanned sketch, or was that penned with the tablet as well?

Nice tut here SFMC. Good to see how the master works his magic.

yes i would also like to know how you pick your color scheme. Im currently trying to paint a peice of Shadow of the Colossus fanart and have no idea where to start. Ive got most of the rough sketch done if youd like to see it so you could give me some specific pointers…

Hehehehe:badboy: Now I am gonna steal ur technique, SFMC! And I am gonna be The Master Of The Manga Art:rofl:
Helpfull thread, mister:tup:

So I want to double check this…
You use a 100% for the shadows and a lower opacity for the midtones. Now when you use the midtones…you paint over all the shadows to keep the colour even right.?

Just my colours happen to screw up a lot when I’ve been trying this out and i’m not 100%sure on the opacities.
Right now i’ve just been using pen pressure in the other dynamics section.

Yeah you want these checked on your brush list.
shape dynamics-Get thick and thin strokes depending how hard you press.
other dynamics-get that fade at the end of your brush instead of a flat brush fade.
I have texture checked sometimes if I use that.

I paint the shadow and mids at 100. Only when I start to blend I lower it to about 70. Yeah I paint all shadow and mids to get them even.

can i get some feedback on this so far?

hey guy. can you fill me in on the lines on sagat’s face? the diagonal lines you used to map out the features. is that something you can do for every face type or just the sagat kind?

I would say don’t even look at my drawing hehe. I know my lines are very absract at times, but I don’t really know how to explain it. Just draw everyday and you will develop your own type of sketch style. Sometimes I just get bored of drawing everything too neat. A couple of lines can, depending where you put it, translates alot of info. All in all I have no explanation.
