Painting the Fightstick (With Krylon or Vinyl Dye)

I realize this. It’s been out in the air for over a day and a half. What I want to know is if it’s still harmful.

usually you should let it air out for about 2 days before you get close to it. But it usually takes 7 days to be atleast a little resistance. about a month to be perfectly coated into a solid so basically after a week it sholdn’t smudge on you or anything

I plan on using the DupliColor Vinyl & Fabric when my store gets it in stock…my question is for those that have used this stuff…after you’ve painted the sides of your TE stick, does it still have that smooth feel to it? or does it feel like dried up paint? I guess what I’m saying is I want it to feel the same way before I use the dye so how do I make it that way? Can of clear coat? something like that? First paint job also : p

I have a question. I painted my trim piece(the piece that goes around the artwork) yesterday… I let did about 3 coats of paint that i got from a hobby shop. I let it dry for a day outside. I put it in and now the paint is fading where my palm would go. Is it cause it doesnt seem fully dry? or do i need to put clearcoat? I also notice it feels kind of rough, rather than a smooth feel that i would like. Any help would be nice. Thanks in advance.

Good brand of clear coat?

Been awhile since I’ve updated this thread, surprised it’s so recently posted in. But, I stripped ALL of the Krylon off (as much as I could) and redid with Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric and… let me tell you. I’ll never use anything other than Vinyl’ Dye. EVER again.

Glad to see this thread was useful. Awesome stuff. If even to motivate people to work and customize their stuff and not be happy with factory~! Don’t settle!

Nearly a year and the stick is still bright red.

What kind of paint was is? Either way, drying outside for a day is not adequate for heavy handling, especially after 3 coats and depending on your weather. Clear coating it isn’t necessarily the best option either.

Follow the can’s instructions.

ok. well i picked up a can of clear coat and did it yesterday and its been drying since then… i guess ill leave it for another day or 2

?

im planning on painting my mayflash using vinyl dye. from what i read, if i wanted to paint something that’s already black to a light color, i would need to paint it white first.
i was wondering, does it matter if the white is semi-gloss or flat? was planning to paint it from black to charcoal.

i got the rustoleum fabric and vinyl gloss white and charcoal btw.

did you have to clear coat after?

Hi, I wanted to ask, what are the characteristics of Vinyl Dye? I don’t think I’ll find the same brands mentioned in the thread in my country, but I’ll be able to ask about paints of similar type/properties. Thanks for the help!

does anyone have a good link to a site that i can buy green Vinyl dye? Im having a hard time finding green =\

No one that can give me a hand with this?

Anyone?

Which would be ok to paint my SE fightstick case?

OR

OR Krylon Fusion ?

I’d go with the Duplicolor you listed, or find Rustoleum’s Vinyl and Fabric line. Some users here have had good luck with Krylon Fusion, but it’s not really a vinyl dye.

Alright thanks. I’ll look for that tomorrow.

to answer my own question, white can be either glossy or flat. started with case that’s already black, dyed with glossy white, then dyed with flat charcoal. the gloss from the white didn’t stay as it was covered by the flat charcoal.

Vinyl dye is pretty much a dye mixed with acetone (plastic melting compound).
So look a paint/dye with acetone in it. Make sure it’s a “dye” NOT “coating.” Hope it helps.

You guys know about duracoat? Should check it out and try it on a stick. Works great on metals and plastics (even wood!)

Here are some sweet colors: http://www.houtsenterprises.net/dur_all_colors.html

Just started my dye job on a TE. Unfortunately I seems like my blue is too dark, nor did I dye it white first…im pretty sad about this, but I have no choice but to press on. It was going to be a black/blue scheme to match my blye seimitsu’s and blue bubble top. Got pretty down that i screw up already.

On the upside , vinyl dye is amazing! I’m doing buttons, instruments, guitar faceplates, lawn furniture , and even parts of my car with it. I went with Dupli-color brand from the local Murray’s/O’rileys auto parts store

FYI These places also have great prices (Unless you have a bulk retailer or want to use ebay. best if you need something ASAP)on quick-disconnects , Multimeters, zip-ties , tape, soldering materials, and anything else you may need to mod. This is a sample of what it pretty much looks like. I wish there was a brighter blue, but overall i like the effect. Not perfect by any means, but its personally made so, Its got soul.

Hasn’t it been determined that clear coating isn’t good when using vinyl dye? I was wondering how to protect the finish.

@RichL
That CavArms Blue probably would haven been perfect, but im not too sure on how duracoat reacts with plastic, just in case i wanted to change the color
