do u need to do the same if used krylon fusion? somebody said to wet sand it after painting a few layers of colour, and before the clear coat goes on.
I don’t know if you have to do any of this (i know for vinyl dye actually you don’t). I just did it because I wanted the glossy look. Pain in the ass and I couldn’t get it to come out right though…
Thanks lifeless, I’ll check that thread. After some experimenting though, I think it’s gonna be a no-go on this project, haha. I’m just gonna make things worse and/or make it harder for me to reset…
I should practice this stuff on some scrap material before trying again.
Today, I opened my SE fightstick for the first time to see what the inside looked like and soon realized that there was some kind of red goo/glue all around the screws.
Can someone tell me how can I remove all the internal of my stick with all the red glue blocking the screws? Because I’m planning of painting my case soon and don’t want to fuck anything up while removing the internal.
Also, I need some opinions about what I’m going to use to paint my case. I was thinking of using Krylon Fusion for Plasticbecause there is a color that works really well with the template I’m gonna use (Blue Hyacinth color if someone is wondering), but apparently it’s unsafe as the first poster mentionned in his guide. Should I still use the Krylon Fusion or forget about it and buy the blue vynil dry instead for safety?
I don’t know about the SE, but my TE had the red glue around the screws and it didn’t make any difference. Just took em out like normal. For the ribon cables that have glue on the connectors, sometimes I would slice through the glue with an exacto knife, sometimes i was just able to pull it off even with the glue. that glue stuff shouldn’t present an yproblem.
Krylon Fusion and vinyl dye are very similar in how they adhere to the plastic but, vinyl “dye” is easier to paint with and levels out better to present you with a smoother finish. Do the dye. I used SEM.
This pic is 2+ years-old, but it still looks the same…

Alright. Thanks for the quick reply. So after unscrewing the screws through the red glue, I’ll be able to remove the internal as a big wired thing that I can put aside?
I’ll try to find dupli-colour vynil dye then. But if I can’t find it, I’ll go buy the Krylon one 'cause It matches with my template’s colour really well.
Sucks that with Dupli-colour, you only have 4 colour choice. = |
Not quite sure what you mean here. I have the TE so I’m not sure exactly about the SE, but the TE has several different parts with those screws that can be taken apart. This thread might be of some help:
Off-topic, but can I ask you about the usb connector you used on the back of that stick? I’m picking up an axisadapter to make my SE stick wireless, and have been thinking about what to do with the usb connection so I can charge it.
On topic, @ Kazuhiro, take your time with it and the Krylon should be fine, if you go slow and pay attention to where your spray is going, but if you’re new to painting, stick with the dye as recommended here.
Nice, thanks.
what’s the best way to put a protective coating on Chrome paint without causing it to turn gray or dull? Regular clear coats kill the shine, and I have yet to come across one that doesn’t.
Any ideas?
Just painted mine today. I can say that I’m very pleased. I used Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric that I purchased at an auto parts store (medium blue). This was my first time painting anything in awhile and I did really well, no runs/missed spots etc. I definitely recommend Duplicolor for vinyl it’s very easy to use.
Also when I applied my last coat a couple of globs came out (it made the case kinda look like it was speckled if you know what i mean) but I let it dry for awhile and they where gone.
Here is a few pics…they’re not to good because my camera was about to die so I took a few quick ones. If you want to see more let me know.

Looks great. Hurry and get some art on that panel.
Yea there are 2 reasons it is without art
-
I can’t decide what to put on it.
-
The control panel is bent. Look closely at the front you can see it’s sticking up a bit. When I got out of bed one day I stepped on it and caved it in. I bent it back the best I could but It wont ever get it’s original shape back now. :xeye:

What do you guys think of these? Is the brand any good?
Would turquoise go well with blue sanwa buttons?
got a question and i was hoping people here could help me out i was thinking of coloring the bevel of the TE stick with vinyl dye black and after reading i heard that sometimes u have to dye the plastic white first to get the second color to show through.
basically im asking if anyone has tried dyeing their bevel black and if they did, did you have to dye it white first?
Finally posting a picture of my finished stick didn’t like the way my original Krylon job came out so i did another with Duplicolor black effex paint it’s pretty sick in normal areas looks glossed black but when light hits it it has a real cool colored flake effect here’s a couple pics… oh yeah and i covered up the home button cause i really dont like turbo buttons lol…

What do you guys think???
Can anyone link me to the post about how to disassemble the TE stick? I have some Parasol vinyl dye arriving tomorrow and want to make sure I don’t screw up the case.

check out the series of vids labled “madcatz fighstick review” or something. He pretty much disassembles the whole stick. I dont’ think he takes the white parts off the side, but once you get it open to the point that he does, it’s easy to see the screws that hold them on.
Alright well I got my plastic dye (parasol varibond) yesterday and it didn’t really work at all.
Let it sit for 24 hours and you can peal the “paint” right off.
Anyone using the duplicolor vinyl dye, can you scratch/peel it off? I thought it was supposed to seep into the plastic and not come off.
I ordered their vinyl dye…hopefully this works better…
