Painting Buttons

First of all, yes I know that buttons are available in many colors. I don’t intend on painting the actual joy-stick buttons (Sanwa, Seimitsu, Happ, etc.), but rather the buttons included on a VSHG (four yellow buttons at top seen here). Anyways, I just want to know if there is a quick, safe, and reliable (won’t smear or wear off) method that anybody can recommend. Thanks!

i would recommend just normal paint for plastics. let it cure over night then spray on 1-3 coats of clear coat and it shouldn’t wear off anytime soon.

I did just that some time ago with some sanwa OBSF-30 and a metallic automotive paintcan

The paintjobs have to be sanded (600 grit) if you’re going to use a brush or the surface of the buttons will not be smooth. Otherwise, just use paint in spraycan (color and clearcoat) and no use to sand at all (more expensive but cleaner solution).

Buy new ones, their cheap!!!

I’ve never had anything but problems with any buttons or sticks that were painted. Dont do it…

Where can you get those buttons OP’s talking about on the VSHG? I can’t seem to find them anywhere or any specs on size or anything.

How does this clearcoat on top of the paint fare under heavy-usage on an arcade stick and buttons. I can only imagine it eventually wears down, but what are the estimates? 6 months.

it can vary but i painted a mini-z body( a 1/28 scale rc car body) and used clear coat over it for protection. that body has been beatin all to hell and still has the clear coat on it

i use tamiya paint, primer, and clear coat
