Pad Player Control Schemes

I’m looking to get back into fighting games, but I no longer have a stick and probably won’t get another one until we start getting those sub-$100 sales. In the meantime, I thought that I’d try learning how to play on a pad (Xbox One/PS4). I don’t feel like reinventing the wheel when it comes to control schemes, especially when I know that there are already successful pad players out there who have setups that work. Can anyone shed some light on the control schemes that tournament-going pad players use? In particular, I want to know the settings that Shizza, Snake Eyez, and Wolfkrone use for their controllers.

I also would like to know the control schemes of other pad players.

I’m currently just using the default control scheme.

Default seems like the best option really, especially on controllers with 4 face buttons like ps3/360, I used to use default when I played pad and it worked fine.

Personnaly, when I use the DS3 I use :
Square = LP
Triangle = MP
Cross = LK
Circle = MK
L1 = HP
L2 = 3P
R1 = HK
R2 = 3K

When I use a fightpad, I use standard stick button layout (punch on top 3, kick on lower 3) with L as 3P and R as 3K

From pad player I met, a lot of them use the same layout, only thing that differs is the triggers. I do have a friend of mine that uses :
Square = MP
Triangle = MK
Cross = HP
Circle = HK
L1 = LP
L2 = 3P
R1 = LK
R2 = 3K

What I’m using is:

Square - LP
Triangle - MP
R2 - HP
X - LK
Circle - MK
R1 - HK
L1 - 3P
L2 - Focus Attack

Since I use Fei Long, the 3K button is essentially useless to me since I don’t use his Ultra 2 (nobody does), and that way I can easily use EX moves AND by pressing L2 + R1 or R2 I have access to Red Focus as well. Only issue with this layout is throw tech since it’s harder to react with two different buttons (square + X) than one

Default lay-out, except for 1 minor detail:
X = throw

I don’t need st.lk with Honda

I knew a few players that had a bizarre pad layout and they rocked it like the best of them in tourneys.

lp = square
mp = triangle
hp= circle
lk = x
mk = L1
hk = R1

They were able to mash ultra by pushing all punches with their big thumb on the face of the pad or squeezing both triggers and x for an ultra that used kicks. Throws were easy enough for them - FADCs were more deliberate with this scheme as well. And they wouldn’t get an accidental Taunt that some newer players on pad or stick get.

I use Sega Saturn pad when possible. 6 face buttons, and you can use L and R for macro’s if you need to (depending on game).

If I don’t have access to a SS pad, and am forced to use something else. PS or Xbox, I’ll just do 4 face normally, then put HP on RB/R1, HK on RT/R2, and if I need macros use L1/L2/LB/LT.

That’s pretty much it. I know some players who map the HP buttons to the face, I personally don’t recommend this and find it confusing, but really whatever works for you works for you… In fact didn’t the SSF4 champion use this config?
