If they can use imaginary science to build giant robots, link humans to other humans mentally via machines, link humans to alien monster brains, and send people in and out of an interdimensional rift beneath the ocean, they can use it to build giant animal mechs that can be piloted like human shaped mechs.
That’s what I was just thinking, however I have a hard to figuring out the ‘pro’ to this, and with how much a jaeger prolly cost, I doubt anyone would want to spend real tax dollars on a dog-piloted jaeger.
Though I’m surprised thta with the discussion of hte second brain, and studying their organs and similarities - that it was never discussed, aiming for ‘vital points’. I know it’s an intense fight and all, but if I knew I could ‘Attack of the titans’ the back of the neck and severally slow it down, I’d develop a move set to do just that.
Granted I’d have also developed a ‘poison’ bullet of some sort to shut them down via sniper. OR at least some kind of shooting ‘distance’ weapon besides the plasma thingy…that could be deployed without a jaeger…like to watch the walls.
I think the cyber-kaiju idea is awesome, but what I really want to see are air/ space battles! The amount of thrust needed to make a jaeger mobile is probably insane though.
Eh, I think it will do fine, due to the overseas market, I mean the movie has already (or just about) remade the cost in worldwide sales and it hasn’t even hit full release in China, Japan or Brazil yet. If Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters can get a sequel green lit due to the reception outside of the US, I am hopeful Pacific Rim will be able to.
Edit: If there is a sequel with cyberized Kaiju, if I don’t see some Mecha-Godzilla homage I will cry and blast Del Toro on Twitter.
Use highly trained dogs and the second pilot could be an AI to assist the dog. Some deep shit. Dogs be having nose bleeds on some next level shit for real.
Shoot, If I was in charge of the mech design of the next film you’d better believe I’d have a mech using a massive rail-gun sniper rifle. Must imagine the damage a 200-300ft long railgun with a nuclear power plant could do.
I’ve been thinking about why I like Pacific Rim so much even though I tend to fins a lot of fault with the typical Hollywood special effects romps. Best I can figure is that even though is a big dumb action movie it’s not a big stupid action movie, and it doesn’t try to be something that it isn’t.
There’s nothing too complex going on in this film and everything is straight forward, but it covers all its bases. There aren’t any huge gaping plot holes that make no sense in universe.
You may wonder about how stupid it is to cut funding for the Jeager project and build huge walls, but they do include a couple lines in the interview on TV that alludes to the fact that they’ve evacuated people further inland but it’s only the more affluent that can afford to get there. So it’s kinda clear that after the massive string of loses they’ve decided to cut their loses and give people a false sense of security.
You may wonder how Stacker anbd Chuck could drift together with no previous experience but Stacker is all like, “I’m a blank slate I take nothing in with me.” His depiction in the movie up to that point allows you to believe that without breaking your suspension of disbelief because it fits the character. So while that kind of explanation wouldn’t cut it in other movies, it works here.
The overall sense of urgency is logically and clearly explained as well. The appearance of Kaiju is increasing at a predictable rate and something has to be done to stem the tide. Even with as cliched the two scientists roles are they both play exactly the parts they need to play in order to move the plot forward and they both have a constructive contribution to the war effort.
Compared to other movies that have useless characters, hanging plot threads, and massive holes this movies is actually pretty tight.
Sideshow Collectibles? I’m hoping that BandaiNamco SH Monsterarts can get the license to go along with their already released giant monster figures. At least we’d be certain to get great articulation, paint, sculpts, and accessories for a fair price. I’ll probably get Eureka and Leatherback from NECA though in the mean time.
