I wasn’t planning to get this, despite having read the visual novels till Ep5 end.

But then I saw the fourth gameplay video, and realised that it will actually have online play. Hope there’ll be a proper lobby, spectating, and replays - does anyone know any details on that?

Anyway, online play completely changed my mind on this - that, and the awesomeness which is Shannon’s Meta World super (“I kept my promise, Beatrice-sama!”). Holy crap lightning attack! Production values seem to be off-the-charts for a doujin soft.

I’m a little concerned about the game balance though. As many have pointed out, Beatrice’s SP Infinity support ability seems kinda broken. I’ll add on to say that Battler’s Resurrection is equally broken - just look at how fast the HP is recovering in the gameplay videos.

I really hope this game won’t end up being little more than Battler & Beatrice VS Beatrice & Battler.

Just imagine:
When Beatrice is on screen, her HP gradually (for a limited time) recovers due to Battler’s ability.

TAG to Battler. Unlimited SP in play (for a limited time), so spam one or two supers, then activate Meta World at no cost before time runs out… which activates both Beatrice AND Battler’s abilities again. More free supers and HP recovery bullcrap.

TAG back to Beatrice, HP recovers again. WTF!

And that’s just one example. Ronove’s Meta World super looks broken too. The moment Ronove’s opponent commit to any special move, BAM, activate Meta World, instant Raging Demon from full-screen distance.

You can spend meter to cancel their metaworld activation. Tags have a delay so at the very least they aren’t free in neutral situation. iirc Beato’s metaworld only gives you a free bar, too. Also it’s perfectly possible to patch the game when excessively stupid shit pops up.

Edit: Dunno if this has been brought up yet, but I think Virgilia popped up in one of the backgrounds. That kinda shuts down the “Hey [Insert Character] is ganked and dead in this BG so they aren’t gonna be playable!”

Note about BEatrice and the SP thing, it’s just one free bar apparently.

But the game still favours whoever is activating the Meta World.

Player 1 spends 1 stock to initiate Meta World.
Player 2 spends 2 stocks to cancel.
Player 1 spends 2 stocks to cancel the cancel (3 stocks in total).
Player 2 spends 3 stocks to cancel the cancel-cancel (all 5 stocks used).
Player 1 spends 2 stocks to cancel the cancel-cancel-cancel (all 5 stocks used).

Right. Just went back to the site and checked it again - somehow I missed that it’s a one-time SP move thing. So apparently it’s not as broken as everyone thinks.

But this doesn’t stop the Battler/Anyone abuse, as long as Battler has 5 stocks of SP at his/her disposal. Especially if it’s Battler/Virgilia, since Virgilia’s ability is to gradually recover both character’s SP meters for a limited time.

Revised scenario:
When Virgilia is on screen, her HP gradually (for a limited time) recovers due to Battler’s ability.

TAG to Battler when he has 5 SP stocks. Activate Meta World (force it with 5 stocks if you have to)… which activates both Virgilia AND Battler’s abilities again. More HP recovery bullcrap. Plus, SP will start recovering for both characters.

TAG back to Virgilia, HP recovers again. Just push out a few more block strings, and pretty soon Battler will have 5 SP stocks again.

TAG to Battler, rinse and repeat.

Wouldn’t you get baited and punished if you kept trying to do all those neutral tags? Assuming Battler’s partner doesn’t have a safe way to neutral tag after a blockstring or something, anyway.

So score a knockdown. 'Nuff said.

How did players safely tagged out their characters in VS games in the past where there were no such things as Hyper Combo cancel and stuff?

Even if you don’t do a neutral tag… hack, even if you don’t tag at all, all Battler has to do is to build up 5 stocks of SP, spam it all to get to Meta World, where his HP and SP will start auto-recovering. Then pull off a few more block strings and combos, get to SP level 5, rinse and repeat. That alone would amount to a whole lot of HP recovering.

Did I miss something?

it was announced a while ago, one of the 1st things that they announced iirc, now how good it will be for international play, who knows

In the fourth gameplay video, if you look at the bottom of the screen the game says “Your opponent is currently selecting his characters/Your opponent is done selecting characters/Loading/Waiting for opponent’s game to load.”

Oh. I think 07th Expansion should have made a bigger deal out of it. The first I heard of this game was from the animesuki Umineko board, and nobody there nor the official website said anything about online.

I certainly wouldn’t expect online play from a doujin soft (are they the norm?), but well done Ryukishi07!

Good eye, I was to busy getting hype over the menu/gameplay to pay attention to what was going on on the bottom.

Again, I’m just a bit sad that my laptop is just bit underpowered. Turns out my graphics card is like a generation behind from what they recommend to play the game, which is pretty much the only thing holding me back. :sad:

Ah well, looks like I’ll just watch vids for right now.

probably not making a big deal out of it because they’re encouraging offline play or too focused trying to get the gameplay out in the open.
