Ottawa Thread 2013

Shut the fuck up livewirex.

But yeah i agree with Andy, you gotta play all skill levels in order to learn and then be able to test it, you also have to play against people who are willing to teach you and also play against you at their full potential.

Yang if you keep coming after me unprovoked you’ll start dealing with a different person.

So what is the difference between a PP system and a league format?
How do the different tallying methods impact results?

The league format was 100% based off the number of times you win a match. This gets super lopsided when one player shows up every week and plays lots of matches vs someone who can’t make it as often. It’s the same with running a bracket. It works out that quantity > quality.

A PP format will mitigate these problems because you can both gain and lose points. Play as often as you would like and unless you win every single match you aren’t going to rocket ahead. Even if you do win every match, you will get diminishing returns as you start to have way more points than everyone else. And you run the risk of losing more points if you do lose a match. Look at the PP system for SFIV and you will see people slowly “peak” at a certain level based on who they beat and how often.

Will there still be a tournament based on your ranking or is that null and void?

Oh there will be a tournament for sure. This all leads to seeding for a tournament.

i liek vidya gaems

Side note, I still have a monitor left over from HQ. $100. Or make me an offer.

How about $90?

85

I don’t see any problem with the way we were doing it before.
I’m probably the worst AE player there but a lot of people still played with me and helped me a lot so I dont see what the commotion is about.

Saying I’m not welcoming?

I don’t think I’ve ever ever ever not welcomed a new player to the scene or put out my offer to help people. I host up feg central, I’ve been bringing out equipment for years (you know that poverty high school student who is able to come out with multiple stations while 90% of this community can’t even be bothered to buy a stick.) Organized trips to other cities, went out and REPPED my city. We supported Dustin and his Barfights, we supported the gonq. Hell we even held secret dunk off at the gunk gathers.

And look, the new players who are actually HUNGRY get the help they want. Raf? Hash? Verbal? Did I ever make you guys feel unwelcome or just more hungry to beat me??

What I’m not tolerant of is people who are ASS, and who don’t try to get any better (RE: Livewire) all while talking shit on SRK when they can’t back it up.

Yes I was heavily critical of Andy’s idea, but that’s because we need to shape this as a community. Not everyone can just agree with the ideas. I and anyone who has been in the scene and actually experienced it (RE: almost none of you who make up the AE community now a days) will agree.

ME N JAMES N YANG HAVE EVO POINTS SO STFU WE KNOW BEST SCRUBS

I know EVO points are FREE just like ME.

Salt for everyone, because even haters deserve salt.

And I was looking for exactly that. Feedback. I’ll take it in all forms. I just want people to engage.

Don’t go pulling this “back in my day stuff” and discount everyone currently playing though. I’ve been part of other communities for a long ass time. I flew across an Ocean to represent my province with other players. I’m going to Toronto in two weeks. No one seems to have responded to that post of mine.

I could go on some long post addressing IRockTheVote’s off-base comments, but attacking me for not trying to get better at a game I don’t even play or own anymore and haven’t for months in an attempt to prove point…kinda says more about him than I. The fact of the matter though is that we’re really not going to get anywhere if we’re just bickering like children.

Edit: Actually, you know what? Even though I’m leaving that other stuff up, we can still try a bunch of different things as long as we’re willing to be open-minded about it and don’t go being crazy stubborn about it. After all, we won’t really know if something’ll work or not until we give it a shot.

mmhmm dat drama

Real talk though, before you can say anything ever, put the time in. It’s one thing to have a stance but at least do it once you actually take the time to play/learn/understand/organize/etc.

If you’re serious, I can make this happen.

while we are here talking about our ae ranbat format, (which u have already said on top, got nothing to do with you) u came on here start talkin hot shit to dev. like you know him, Srsly who the fuk are you? u even know any of us in person? have i met u b4 ever? yes or no doesnt matter, cuz you need to stfu n get the fuk outta here, no one likes u, u are the most shit at any game, no one gives a fuck why or how u dont have car, gas, game, life or anything. point is, you are a loser online and most likely in real life. stop posting here and go post ur garbage on Toronto thread instead, they will love u there.

I’m sorry, but you’re misinterpreting what he’s doing, just like you misinterpreted the subtext and purpose of his “Shit League” post. Our issue is that you’re making value-laced comments and baseless judgments about a scene you don’t even understand.

Whether you intended it or not, when you wrote this, you indirectly (read: passive-aggressively) implied that our AE scene is unhealthy and lacking players, and that doing things your way would be the magic fix. If you had managed to find a way to make Gonq happen for you (or even HQ and Barfights before it), you’d know just how wrong you were. You’re putting all this emotion on the table about how you’re being attacked for this and attacked for that, but you’re failing to take ownership for the fact that you recklessly attacked first.

If you want to comment on our city’s FGC, come out and see it in action so that you at least get the in-jokes and avoid embarrassing yourself on the forums. Check your ego at the door and you might even level up enough to avoid embarrassing yourself at the next tournament you attend.

I’m serious, though I gotta wait until I get paid before picking it up. Would you be able to hold onto it for a week or two?

I can do that. Just note that I’m leaving Ottawa on the 21st.

Dude, you don’t need to go off on me over random AE stuff I never said, and that people thought was implied. Like, while I get saying it might imply the scene is unhealthy, lacking players, and that I have some magic fix, I don’t really think that at all. I mean, I’ve been going to stuff since that GO stuff that was around in like 2010-2011 when the original guy (Buenob) had it up, and I’ve been to the old HQ a number of times and even brought my setup multiple times to the Gonq get-togethers. I’m sorry if the things I’ve said have been coming across as something far different from what I’m trying to convey. Like, to me, I’m on YOUR side, I’m on Johnny’s side, Bruce’s side, Miles’ side, and the side of everyone else that helps put stuff together to give people a means to get together and play, and I WANT those people and everyone here to succeed.

Does the fact that I’m occasionally a blunt smartass with a dry sense of humour happen to be something that is out of place and not best suited for sometimes getting my point across? Of course, but I still very much want Ottawa to succeed and would love to see it grow in size or even double or triple in terms of the people coming out. That isn’t me trying to take away from the people who put in work, to get it to as good as it is now, it’s just me being optimistic at what could be accomplished. I’m not your enemy man, or anybody’s here, though I do have the ability to say “hey there” and have it be taken as “fuck off”, apparently, be it intentional or not.

I don’t pretend to be ego-driven or like I’m better than people around here at anything other than CP since there are plenty of people who will always be better at AE, since it’s better suited to them, and Marvel since they’re more familiar. Hell, even with TTT2 and P4A, I’m not blind about just being “decent” and having a ways to go before I could get close to becoming good. While I should probably feel embarrassed stating my mind on stuff, I don’t really because I know it’s well-intentioned. Also, while getting blown up by Brice from Montreal at the last tournament I went to was a bit humbling in that it happened to go down on stream, the entire tournament was another learning experience and I feel that if I walk away from a tournament with even just 1 piece of knowledge that I didn’t have going in, then it’s a worthwhile experience.

Yeah, this is rambly, but I’m just going to end this by saying I never intended to come across as attacking, defensive, condescending, self-righteous, like someone seeking to harm the community, or anything else that fits in there, and the only other thing I can do on it is apologize if anybody got legitimately offended and say that I’ll watch how I word things from now on.
