@Logan,
No doubt. I’ll assist in any way I can.
@James,
Replied.
Guys, remember that MVC2 only really turned into MSP vs. Santhrax in the later years of its’ tournament life.
It is a game people have innovated in and really put their minds to for a very, very prolonged period of time.
Much of top-tier MVC2 was not planned by its’ developers at all, but was diffused through the community by people getting beasted by new tactics etc.
For example, People thought Magneto and Sentinel were ass at the beginning of MVC2’s lifecycle. For a while, people thought Cable was the BEST character.
Part of Magneto and Storm’s now-signature rushdown game was first innovated as a concept with which to get through/under/over Cable’s traps.
Sentinel’s unflys and fastflys were discovered largely by accident: you could call them a developer’s mindfart lol
My point is that there is now a new game with many of these mechanics integrated, spread across characters, but with new mechanics to fight/counter them. Teleports will be GREAT, for one. There will likely be characters with invincible anti-airs to deal with trijumpers (unsure, but it’s likely).
And this is just the shit Capcom PLANNED on.
Not only that, but the online community has come to a point where information is very quickly shared across SRK/eventhubs/wherever. Unblockables? Sameside crossups? Exploitable engine glitches? All accessible and learnable at the click of a button and some time spent.
When I really got into XVSF, everything beyond what was in James Chen’s combo FAQ was pretty much a matter of playing other people in your city, trying shit out, and getting beasted by out-of-towners with access to larger player pools.
It took out-of-towners and people with access to online gaming to really push the scene to the place it got.
That barrier to advancement simply isn’t there anymore with these new games…
The vs series brings some of the most hype, most salt, most epic rivalries, trash talk, and general lulz of any games ever made.
Glad to see that some people are already showing interest in getting into them.
Come February 15th, it’s endless Movember. aww yeah.
Cody worse than t hawk? Interesting…
Hmm good point. I didn’t really look at the bottom tiers. I very much agree with the higher tiers though
everyone can take something away from what Jon has said here, time to make Ottawa a name folks.
I still can’t believe that happened to the stick. Such horrible misfortune. What a lame way to go
Yeah I’ll be playing some MvC3. Maybe even the new MK, depending on how good it is
Like I said, expect this often; the game is still in relative infant stages. And for that reason alone you should just play w/e chars that feel right for you and innovate - or more like innorape
You guys have been improving but should be more in the innovative mindframe of submitting or at least editing content to the strat forums for your characters, not just reading them. You’re meeting weekly, traveling to tourneys and MMing. I started submitting SF2T shit to GameFaqs almost 10 years ago. Time to make like Jon and step shit up!
I’ll be on that MK but I don’t have a ps3, so someone close better be ready to play alot. I’ve been loosely following the MKII/III community and they actually seem to be hyping the new mk… which is more than I can say for the past 6 mks before that. And fyi the MKII/III tourneys have been the strongest running to date from all MK support.
Someday soon someone smart from the SF community is going to do what the much smaller MK community pulled off (but better) and publicly database every tournament and recorded match in an intuitive, chronological fashion. You can literally go on the MK site and see about any tourney match or tourney result you want, DL it, or search by player (in some sections). I know with more legwork and arduous searching this is possible with SF but since it’s so huge it can be difficult to follow without dedicating more time and effort. Anyway I was impressed.
Not hating just making a funny observation lol…I think I can start coming to gatherings for a few hours a night usually finish 1 job at 9 then start again 3am other one lol…I too am planning on playing mvc3 and will also be really bad at it haha
Just something to note for BlitzFu and a few others I spoke to - the big gathers are every TWO weeks. The next one will be Jan 21st.
Between that there’s small stuff, I hope to host one night this week but we’ll see what time permits and it can’t be too many people.
I don’t mind having a few people over sometimes as well, but my apartment = super small, so when I say a few, I mean 3 tops.
what happened?
He left it switched to LS instead of DP after plugging it in that way to enable the dual mod which results in TONS of maimed/dropped inputs.
Really, really bad luck.. I was borrowing Jonny’s stick because the tourney was held on PS3. Logan brought it to the tournament for me and set it to “LS”. I’m not familiar with what that function, and had no idea I was supposed to change it back to the middle for the stick. I played my games on LS: easy bnbs weren’t coming out, target-combos, air-dashes and supers were non-existant. I later concluded it was my tournament-nerves and needed to train harder. I thought this because I was absolutely myself, my familar self during the casuals that were held after on a different stick.
On a brighter note! Ottawa is getting noticed for Bbcs!
Arun, that just means you gotta compensate next time and swallow everyone whole.
Just like No-face! (arakune’s long lost twin)
Not trying to be a dick but I explicitly pointed this out to you twice when we were standing behind my car and I was showing you how to work the dual mod. Next time less talk about crayons, more listening to the nerd showing you things.
Oh well, live and learn I guess, just go shit on people next time
LOL @ POST
Kung Lao!
That is all
Edit:
I don’t believe you did. You switched to LS, told me to hold the button and handed me the stick. I think you presumed I knew how to work it. Clearly there was a fundamental error in communication.
Guess you should bring your own stick next time!
