Ottawa Thread 2011

@Jon, Agreed

And for the record Yang didn’t offer anyone money for sex… that’s just ridiculous.

Anyway I’ll see you guys next weekend.

What time ppl gettin there for MMs? Jon I know ur bringin a TV but what are u runnin on it? Is it for the tourney or for mavel?

I wasn’t imagining that, I’m still trying to get the stains out of the headliner (was going off of what I heard). But yeah, for the record, that door doesn’t even close properly let alone lock :stuck_out_tongue: I had heard about the propositioning from someone but I can’t even remember who it was so maybe I am just imagining this… those jizz stains are real though.

Even though it wasn’t my place last night I appreciate the posts from you and Shen since it was an event that I was helping run. Anyway here’s to hoping we can have a bit of a more… civil time at gathers moving forward

And the lulz were had…
MvC 3 ranbat interest for.sure, game is going to be toooo hype

well have civil times when you stop making up bull shit about how i offer money for sex to Johnny’s roommate, and actually learn to count the ranbat money right for once.

eyyy

yo Yang what u saying later today ima call Tak u down to host some ???

Alright, I guess I’ll drop the last word here.

I have to admit, yesterday was a blast and I’m glad a lot of people came to game. A lot of familiar faces and a couple of new ones. I hope you guys come out to our inaugural GO monthly and show the same enthusiasm as last night because if that kind of shit happens every month, I’m sure it’ll be a success.

With the permission of my roommates, I offered my place up for gathers and venues because it was the first viable place that we’ve had to play in ever since we grew to this size and honestly, I’m very glad that everyone is enjoying the place. Everyone who’s been here so far has been very happy with the place and I’ve been very impressed at the people who come in and help set up stations. I may be able to provide the location but I was very happy to see the scene rally together to support it as a whole.

With that said, the place is still my home and to others as well. When I invite people, I expect people to have some common decency. I don’t mind people getting rowdy and shit talking but at a certain time, those actions are unacceptable. Sure, no one was hurt and nothing was broken but that’s doesn’t mean there wasn’t damage done. My roommate had her own gathering on the second floor and in her room and we pretty much ruined their night. My other roommates had their headphones on all night because of the noise (which is immensely cool of them because they could have just come down and kicked any of you guys out) and kept worrying if there was going to be a physical fight or not. There’s puke on a couple people’s shoes and some on the floor. People had to cover for others in order to make sure they get home safely. If there was sexual harassment, that’s just another one on the list.

Does that sound like a smooth night? I mean, people had fun but at what expense? It’s hard not to sound like a complete pussy ass bitch but when you’re cleaning after the mess, it’s hard not to get bitter about it. I offer my place up and that’s how it’s going to go down? Why haven’t shitstorms like this happened in previous gathers? If they have and that’s a part of OT history, I’m not quite sure I wanna keep hosting.

At this point, it’s in the past and my roommates are extremely fucking cool about it. Even with what’s that happened, people have owned up to their mistakes and faults. It’s much easier to criticize in hindsight and I hope everyone understands that. Things will still continue to happen bi-weekly (remember, the last three weeks were the exception) and I still wanna use the house to make the scene larger and greater. My biggest regret was that I wasn’t able to physically keep awake to do more damage control because I would have been more active about it. I just couldn’t stay awake and had to nap. I’m glad that people had fun and I’m extremely grateful to those who continued to offer their hand during the night, even when I was passed the fuck out.

tl,dr; don’t be a douche next time.

Many, many thanks to those who offered and helped me out during the night. Seriously, I really appreciate it.

With that off my chest, I’m off to clean the living rooms.

EDIT: Man, you people don’t drink your beer. There was a beer that was just opened. No one drank it. Also, to confirm, offers for prostitution may not have happened but lewd comments were made not to my roommates but to her friends.

Thanks again for hosting

I was trying to find a funny pic to post so I googled “y u frontin bro” and the google image search came back with pictures of William Shater, pigs on spits, and this as the very first link (SFW).

But for the record, I’ll take that, it’s deserved

For the record as a gesture from the community i gave Logan 20 bucks back out of my winnings for running the ranbat and generally being a champ for the entire season,

It’s bad that when this happened I immediately thought of the part in 2Fast2Furious where Paul Walker gives part of his winning money to Ludacris for organizing the race.

Ricer fail aside, thanks again Myles

Yeah good shit myles, def appreciated

Good games everyone, I havent seen a turnout that big in a while. Johnny, your venue is the best I’ve seen so far in this city. I just hope we can all manage to leave good enough impressions on you and your roomies to keep this place available.

Shoutouts to Wadie for the brief ST coaching, that knowledge carries into every street fighter game.

Shen, your faceplant into the ps2 after losing to my brother in 3s was priceless but kinda scary. Next time, use a thin straw and pace yourself :stuck_out_tongue:

Myles, I appreciate you looking out for Yang and driving him. That was really cool of you.

Arun. Well played man. I underestimated you and your competition level carrying over into other games. I knew it would be a hard match for me, but I did it because honestly, it’s experience you can’t get any other way. This is something to take note of, guys.

It was over before it started because of my headspace. Ive been really good recently with maintaining my cool and playing well because of it, but you never know how you’ll play in a high-stakes match until you actually put yourself in a stressful situation. IMHO, it’s worth it to learn this stuff in money matches, instead of finding out in a big tournament what you did wrong. The money I put down was an investment in experience, entertainment and hype.

Placement in a tournament = 50% skill/experience, 50% state of mind.

Most of you guys wouldn’t know this, but players like Tak can be in a semi-final match and still be completely relaxed and cool. Thats what will really help you out.

In summary: I urge more people to play some simple money matches if you plan on attending the tourneys in TO or MTL. It’s worth the $5 or $10 or whatever you wanna throw down to make the incentive high and test your discipline.

One last thing… I won’t be in Ottawa much longer, maybe until the end of August at the latest. I wanna see as much crazy shit as possible until then. This community hasn’t been so alive since the Ottawa U days. Good shit everyone!

Fuck how do I not remember this?

Seriously, no more sake for me.

We all know that’s not gonna happen

Anyone here planning on going to Evo this year? I need to get put of ottawa this summer.

Enjoy Everybody…especially Jon, u seem to get a real kick from how awesome guile is hahaha

Shin akuma gameplay funniest thing about this video is i finally found a camera phone that had shittier quality than mine.

Good meeting you too! Also, I double-checked, add Raakam on Steam, not just Raak. That’s just my handle in TF2. Cheers!

OMG Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma too GODLIKE!!!

Just a thought though I think this has been tried before… Would there be interest in an Ottawa sf twitter account that people could follow (iphonelol) to keep track of events and stuff? Or maybe an Ottawa sf Facebook page?

Seems easier than having people calling/texting all the time asking if/where games are happening especially since almost everyone has a smartphone.

I’m free as a bird, so I can’t really take offense at that. I might make more time to practice and show up this semester, especially if MvC3 is planned. I’m looking forward to getting some real discussion and playtesting done as people discover how stuff works.

On a similar note, I can’t actually make G-Ottawa’s event, I’ll be in Montreal judging. Bad timing just can’t be helped, I guess.

Damn, sounds like I missed some crazy shit. I’ve known FreezerB’s roommates for years, and I can safely say without a doubt: you guys are extremely fucking lucky that they are so nice. Let’s try to keep the frathouse crap out of that place, mkay. It’s fine to do the gathers party-style, but even at a party, you don’t disrespect the host unless you plan on not coming back.

tl,dr; let’s fight like gentlemen.
