Other Publishers and General Comic Book Discussion Thread

Gargoyles was great last week! Hell yeah Thailog making people bleed is great! And oh snap the Illuminati is running DEEP I didn’t think they had that many members WHOA…

Buffy was cool this week, more on that Buffy doppleganger lol!

In the middle of reading Berserk right now. Some porn in there and a prostitute with the heart of gold say word! Square head preist is hilarious! I only wish this manga came out a little faster in the US, it’s sooo long between Berserk fixes… “I’M WAITING SO WRONG! I’M WAITING SO WRONG!”

Read Nalto for laughs, read FMA for an actually good manga.

Man FMA is good.

I love Olivier. She is straight up jokes, with her giant DSL’s .

Yeah FMA manga is dope. So far behind, I’m only up to the fifth book… Loved the anime and the movie too.

so apparantly, the tagline for the new issues of WE ARE THE WALKING DEAD!!!111!!1!!1 is “no one is safe”. hrm. i wonder who is going to die/get eaten

Having fun with the Megatron Origin book. In issue 2 Megatron met Soundwave for the first time. Awww they will be friends FOREEEEEVER! Until the movie when he votes with the other Deceps to toss him off the ship… oh well Soundwave and Galvatron will be friends FOREEEEEVER!

Speakin’ of Transformers, did you see that great clip on youtube? Soundwave - The Touch is what it’s called. It’s better than Michael Bay, baby

Thanks for pointing it out man I just went to watch it. That joint is TOO FUNNY!

Anyone else reads the Goon?

I finally picked up #19 and I have to say, I was a bit disappointed. The fights weren’t all that great and seemed like more of a recap issue where things only start to get interesting right at the end.

But then again I did read Criminal #8 before hand so maybe that had a little to do with my feelings toward this issue.

Damn so, no one is speaking on this thread anymore.

I guess it really is a Big Two world.

In anycase, they have put the first issue of the Top Cow’s First Born series on Newsarama. It apparently crosses over all their top properties the Darkness, Witch Blade and all the other stuff I don’t really know. From what I read, I might try to stick around this series, it seems pretty good.

I like to read other stuff, too, but I think I mostly put my comments in the TPB/GN/HC Thread.

I just read that issue of First Born on Newsarama you mentioned. The art was really nice. I still can’t get into the Darkness and Witchblade and all that stuff, but that was actually a painless read compared to other random Top Cow books I’ve read. I didn’t even know CyberForce was still around.

Literally, it was my first Top Cow book, although I am familar with the concepts of at least Witchblade and Darkness. But I have liked some of Ron Marz (I think he is writing the book)stuff before so I am willing to divert some cash next time I go to the comic shop to pick up the next issue after a glance through.

No idea what Cyberforce is, but I noticed it had the standard 90s Wolverine knock off.

Although, it is weird how NO ONE seems to read the Goon on SRK. It is almost tailor made for this site sometimes.

If it makes you feel less alone, I’ve read the first Goon TPB. I just haven’t gotten around to the stuff after it because I don’t have unlimited cash. (And I couldn’t find it at the library.) And yeah, The Goon is obviously sexy. Powell’s a great cartoonist. Anyone who digs like Hellboy or Usagi Yojimbo would enjoy The Goon.

CyberForce had the Wolverine knockoff, the Cable knockoff, the Cyclops clone, the Jean Grey/Psylocke clone, the Colossus/Beast clone, and the token speedster. I remember when they had the crossover with Jim Lee’s WildC.A.T.s. I still have the Jim Lee issues of that. CyberForce… It just came out in an era when anything with the words “cyber” and “force” were cool.

I heard that The Darkness videogame for the 360 is pretty good, too. It’s probably more fun than the comic book.

Yeah, the little experience I have had with The Darkness gearing up for the videogame and the Witchblade live action TV series and anime are where most of my interest in the comics actually originate from.

But I shouldn’t be surprised that Cyberforce is filled with X-Men knockoffs, considering Image and the like are all children of the X-Books. But damn, it is weird to see them still active. I mean WildC.A.T.s has gone through a series of revisions over the years and have had books once in a while. I am hoping Cyberforce doesn’t have an ongoing, no offense to the characters, but there doesn’t really seem to be much there.

Has anyone read “The Freshmen”?

I saw a trade for volume 2… I was thinking of picking up volume 1 and 2 but I figured I’d check to see if anyone’s read it yet.

Freshmen, nah.

Isn’t that the book Seth Green aka Scott Evil is involved in creating?

Go read Heavy Liquid and Scott Pilgrim.

Then we can talk.

Picked up the big Akira Club art book that came out this week. Man that joint was crazy, I didn’t know that that Kaneda and Tetsuo were loosely based off of characters from Tetsujin 28 that rocks! There’s some coloring in there by Steve Oliff too who was doing all of the great coloring when Akira came to the US under the Marvel label. Hella great book to gawk at all of the amazing artwork.

Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash oh yeah I read the movie script for it even though it never came to be about a year ago and I really enjoyed it, REALLY FUNNY! Looking forward to this comic. Ash rules!

Before this decade is out, Ash will have killed damn near every major horror franchise ever.
