X-Men - Dang, Rogue was all captured and stuff. Nice pencils as always!
Wolverine - I’m getting a gut feeling that the big reveal about how Wolverine and Sabretooth are related is going to be a lot closer to Wolverine’s origin story in the Earth X / Paradise X books. Which was… one of the most bizarre things in that book, great as it was. In Wolverine Storm shows up at the end of this book to drive a screwdriver into the stomachs of all the fans who wanted Storm and Wolvie to hook up…
Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane - Ah, so Peter didn’t tell Gwen his big secret, they got me with that one. Next month, FIRESTAR!
Teen Titans Go! - Ha ha for a second there I thought Kid Wykked could speak, but it was just Raven in disguise, fooled me there for a bit!
Ninja Scroll - Still doing the Tengu story. The tale’s coming off like an Inu Yasha type story, which is a very good thing.
SVC Chaos 1 - It’s more or less a second printing with a new cover, but they fixed a few grammatical errors, Demitri isn’t called Dimitri in the book anymore. There’s still some spacing issues like a few of the words ‘aretooclosetogether’ but no big. Still as funny as ever.
On the manga end Death Note # 10 is hilarious! Mental note, if you are crazy rich and a mob is trying to kill you, start throwing money out the window!
So, I finally read Civil War #7. It was one of the worst anti-climactic fights EVER.
Civil War #7 disappointment
[details=Spoiler]Civilian: OH NOES! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!
Cap A.: OH NOES!!! I give up.
What the fuck?! The entire issue was a letdown. From beginning to end. Taskmaster getting flattened by Sue was hilarious though. The only real good part of the entire issue. I lol’ed. [/details]
Immortal Ironfist, on the other hand, is good. It wasn’t as actionpacked as I though it would have been(the first two have been crazy). It’s definitely setting up for something bigger between Danny and that Randall guy.
Guggenheim’s Flash came out yesterday. Just read it, its pretty good so far. Already liking it better than the previous writers. Its laced with a lot of humor though… but I guess you have to expect at least a little with the Flash.
52 was good this week, kinda confirmed a rumor that was going around about the other horseman that was missing (at least I think it confirms it).
Just read the Action Comics Annual… don’t normally read Superman books, but this was decent. Some good art, some new backstories/origins (Zod, Ursa and Non), and a small little story about what’s to come.
Frontlines - Huh, that was the big reveal? I thought they were gonna find out about Tony Stark blowing up that plane. Why can’t all Marvel limited books have an ending as good as Anihilation? :crybaby:
Oh well I’ll be back for World War Hulk Frontlines like a sucker…
Either I’m not really observant, or I had no idea that the Gibborim were kids themselves. I’m also glad that Alex is still around trying to ‘redeem himself’. I wonder what he’ll end up doing to get out of there. Bootleg Fastball Special was funny as fuck!!
Whedon bet not fuck up this book, or heads will roll.
…anyone know where I can find a summary of Planet Hulk? I didn’t read any of it…
I really love the DC Elseworlds/What If type books. Red Son, The Nail etc.
Just read Batman Year 100 and I loved it… except for the last 2 pages.
SPOILER
Bruce? That’s all the commish says and I felt that I was entitled to know more. Maybe that was the point he was trying to make, playing off that expectancy, but whatever. Still frustrating.
END
I really liked Pope’s art and style with sound effects. He have any other projects?
i got bkv to sign runaways V.1 #18, and V.2 #2, and 4 as well as pride of bagdhad yesterday. had turner sign a bunch of civil war stuff. ended up buying moon knight #1 sketch cover and NA #27 variant with wolvie, spidey and spider woman on the cover. i <3 conventions
I know I’m late getting on the train for this, but Dark Knight Strikes Again - wtf? A lot of this was random as hell, reminded me of that clerks episode with the korean animators. Transformers and who is driving? BEAR IS DRIVING OH NO
Next on the Batman reading list: Dark Victory, Hush, Long Halloween (feel free to add to this)
OK I just started reading The Dark Knight Returns so pardon me while I gush all over it.
Man, the art in this book is freaking legendary!! OK this isn’t the first time I’ve seen Frank Miller’s work. I flipped through a TPB of Frank’s run on Daredevil and the art really jumped out at me. Miller’s art here is just too dope. So gritty and edgy. Love it. The scenes where there weren’t any words when Bruce was thinking about his parent’s murder… I have no words to describe how jaw dropping it was.
I’d completely forgotten that the movie Bruce and his parents left the movies seeing was Zorro, which was also an inspiration for Bob Kane when he drew Batman. Bruce loved Zorro but probably hated the movie the moment his parents were gunned down. Zorro just serves as another trigger for terrible memories for Bruce.
I really liked how Bruce was reluctant to go back to being Batman but he’s constantly reminded that Gotham needs Batman. So he finally caves and dawns the cape and cowl again. Was sweet how he was taking fools out and you could only see his shadows, his feet or hands. I couldn’t believe that he filled a dude’s arm with four Batarangs!! Bats is freaking VICIOUS in this story!!
Anyway, I’m still in the first part of the story and I’m really enjoying it. The rest of the book should continue to own.
So the Knightfall story arc of Batman sucks, eh? Too bad. I thought for sure it would be ownage. Ah, well. I’ll steer clear of it. But what about A Death In The Family? That’s the one where Jason Todd is killed right? Speaking of Jason, has Super Boy Prime retconned anyone else that was dead back into existence, via a wall punch?
Superboy’s punch only seemed to directly effect Jason Todd’s return. All other deaths / rebirths / retcons and other stuff were because of Alexander Luthor combining aspects of different Earths together to create one Earth in Infinite Crisis.
It’s still funnier to say Superboy Prime punched through reality though.
I… guess they bought back dead members of The Doom Patrol like Mento and his wife, dead Brotherhood of Evil peeps like Rouge, Terra, I think… not sure who came back before IC or after… so quite a few Teen Titans heads… again, I think… not too sure.
Death of the Family is cool, but with Jason Todd being bought back to life I’m not sure what’s the point of reading it now. Joker’s at his best though and for a long time it was Batman’s only failure, so it’s up to you I guess.
