ST I guess? Although I wouldn’t consider myself competent in that game.
Powerstone, Jojo’s & Pocket Fighter.
Justice League Task Force. Duh, winning!
My fav game
98 is the only KoF I really enjoy. 2002, XI and XIII are like combo-fest to me, not a competitive fighter.
And 98 still has a big scene in Asia
And Mexico. And South America.
Virtuafighter
Been trying to learn how the fuck to play UMvC3 but that game just feels cheap as hell half the time, you just seem to mash combos/hypers
I used to play TvC which isn’t as faceroll as UMvC, in saying that it’s also not as fun
Mostly I play Guilty Gear ^C or BlazBlue: CS when I’m not playing SFIII or IV
Brawl is fun. I also play Focus Fighter 4, where I use the sf4ae platform and just focus attack all day and dash back. I win a surprising amount of games that way. Once they start with the fireballs, though, I’m toast.
chess. white is OP by 1 tempo.
Sometimes when I get bored of 3s I play cvs2,st,alpha 3 or umk3. Recently I used to play umvc3 and sf4 2012 but as their previous incarnations I got bored of them really fast. A game I would like to try is kof13 it looks really good.
Granted that none of the games I listed come close to 3s but when you have played the same game for years and you play it for 6 hours when you get some people together its time to mix it up a bit.
I play AE2012. Rose main and picking up Bison. Even with those two characters, the game is still boring. D:
Looking back, I did play a little bit of Rose in console SF4 and she was kinda fun. If she was already in the arcade back then it just came out, I probably would’ve spent a little more time on it. I say this without knowing any of the matchups, but the lack of interesting characters in arcade vanilla was part of the reason I hated it…not to mention the first few months of Viper was so awful, but I won’t get into that here.
Alongside 3S I’ve been playing ST, CvS2 and HNK a heck of a lot lately. Used to play a shitload of MK9 too and also some BBCS, MvC3 and SF4 before I got rid of my PS3. MK9 is a brilliant game, it’s just a shame it has a few noticeable input glitches here and there. I also play the GameBoy version of Primal Rage too. It’s got big problems but can be fun. Not as good as the GameBoy port of Killer Instinct, that was one of the best ports of a fighting game I’ve ever seen. I should get my hands on that again.
3S *is *my other fighter. Tekken is (was) my main, but with real life in the way all I have time for is casuals with my bro and 3SOE. The only other fighter I am even remotely good at is Brawl.
Hyper Alpha with friends, Sfex plus Alpha, Sf ex 2 plus, Alpha 3 upper, SSF2HD remix, SSF4AE2012, SF the movie for Saturn for the lols…
you only play SF huh?
I made your av and I don’t even have it saved on my computer, just thought you should know that. I made it in 5 minutes as a one time joke thing.
Alpha 2, KoF13, and UMvC3 for me.
diaperdick got me to pick up virtua fighter after not playing it since probably early highschool (in other words i’m learning almost from scratch)
which reignited my old lust for 3d fighters so I dug out tekken 6 too although no one seems to like tekken around here.
kof13 is fun but unless all of a sudden it’s the only thing aside from 3S that the group plays I doubt I will dig too deep. Though I think it is a really cool game.
rather practice vf5 in prep for final showdown this summer as a side game.
it’s kind of odd to me that people consider the fundamentals of 3d fighters to be somehow different from 2d. i think it’s more of a communication issue but really the fundamentals of both are identical. the difference comes in the realtime application and system specifics. footsies, space, timing, mix-up are all just as critical in tekken as they are in 3s. somehow people don’t see that though. i think they get too hung up on the fact that one uses 3d space and lacks projectiles.
anyone else plays 3S and a 3d fighter of some kind? especially virtua fighter seems to me like a pretty obvious fit for 3S players in the 3D realm.
VF5 is a whole different beast from 3S, in my opinion. I tried getting into it, but it’s a manly game and I’m not quite man enough for it.
I did play a lot of Tekken 6 when it first came out, though. Asuka was a lot more fun than she was in T5:DR, and it was easy enough to pick up. I really hated the rage system though, or whatever it was when you’re down to little health and you get a strength boost. I’ve had so many losses come from one mistake which lead to one bullshit comeback. My win/loss record was split even, with most of my losses coming from rage comebacks. I got fed up and quit, and it was my most hated fighting game for a while until I played Street Fighter 4. Bloodline Rebellion was thankfully not as bad, but I was too knee-deep into 3S to care about any other game at that point.
asuka is awesome.
i didnt mean to say vf5 is just like 3s. what i meant was i think mentality wise, it’s in a similar vein. i think the game is about similar qualities but in the 3d realm. where as to me tekken feels more like guilty gear in some sense. where it’s really about getting someone to overcommit and then punish with some kind of launcher or long combo starter and then successfully execute it all. to me tekken is a more aggressive style game compared to vf which is I think split very evenly between offense and defense.
vf5 has that quality of course (so does 3s) but more likely you will get a lot of damage from short strings based on good reads, timing, reversal situations using sabaki moves and all that jazz.
if that makes any sense. it’s not specifically about individual mechanics it’s more about how everything comes together and the actual play experience. to me personally a good vf5 match has many similar qualities to a good 3s match. this isn’t scientific though, it’s really just a gut feeling. I’d like to hear more about why you feel the opposite though.
i’m always interested in others’ opinions on stuff like this (mainly because it’s just fun, no one can be honestly offended unlike religion or politics)
i’ve realized over the past few years i apparently don’t make a whole lot of sense very often unless i have a chance to explain myself at length.
