If you still don’t believe Osama bin Laden was still alive, I’m guessing no reasonable amount of evidence would convince you otherwise. Kind of like the Birther thing. Though oddly enough I think bin Laden getting killed “cured” more Birthers than Obama releasing his OG birth certificate, since none of the controversy was based on evidence in the first place.
Secondly, with regards to conspiracy theories- his body being buried at sea is in practical terms no different, and is actually an argument against a conspiracy. It’s not like anyone here was going to see the body in person anyway, and whatever pictures or testimony you get would have been exactly the same, only you would have known that bin Laden’s body was in some freezer somewhere. To that point, if there were a conspiracy and this weren’t really bin Laden, they wouldn’t have disposed of the body, since nobody would really know the difference either way, until 50 or 100 years from now. Doing this raises suspicion in some people, raises ire, and gathers attention- and, paradoxically, those are reasons it isn’t a conspiracy.
This won’t help him with 2012 at all. The last president we had that won a war and saw over the end of the Soviet Union lost his election, Bush Sr. If the economy is still in the shitter, and odds are it will be the way the President and Congress are acting, we are getting a leadership change.
Plus there is the “greatest general since Ike in WW2” who actually turned around Iraq, did the work in Afghanistan who could run against him, and is debating it.
2012 is still grim for Obama.

Of course he could hypothetically lose to someone, but the important part of that equation is the person who actually gets the nomination and runs against him- and then actually beats him in an election, which is a different matter entirely. If anything, things are looking “grim” for the Republican party.

I’d agree that’s part of the equation but in general your reelection chances hinge entirely on the economy and what party was thought to be in charge of it. Bush 1 got tossed out of office despite winning the most one sided war in world history and the soviet union going down. Reason being, the economy wasn’t doing that good and he raised taxes. Bush 2 started two wars, bungled both of them, and got elected again becaue he cut taxes and the housing market was booming. Obama only got elected into office because the economy melted down forcing people to toss the Republicans out.
Short of the Republicans nominating Palin, which won’t happen, his fate is tied to the economy, and since that’s still a mess and is due for another crash before the elections (we already have two bubbles which is where all the growth is from) the best he can do is cross his fingers and hope it doesn’t happen till after the elections.
