Orlando Thread:CEO Returns to Rocky's 12/18

all char X on X tourney… ok since i don’t know how many chars super has… i’m just gonna say 30 is the entire cast
it’d be 2 teams of 30 where each person represents a different char… and then its just like a regular team tourney… winner stays on loser gets off

Oh and Ben I want you to call me out in the forum. Ben just sent me a very direct email telling me I should scale back my event find a smaller venue and basically do the same thing I did last year because he thinks it will fail on the basis of filling the hotel alone.

Ye have little faith in me, I’m disappointed.

Like I’ve said people I’m working already on the top players, star names to come to Orlando and soon SRK will be making an announcement in January about their officially Sponsored tournaments in the 2011 Tournament Season. CEO 2011 will be one of those said events.

If anyone thinks I’ll fail and I need to scale back then why don’t you give me some money to work with and find another venue and pay more up front. Then I’ll consider your Easy mode options. You gotta think big to make big things happen. This is a risk I’m pretty much making all on my own, if it fails then so be it, lesson learned, but if this coming year you think I’m gonna sit back and not take advantage of an awesome year for fighting games then think again.

Ahhhh. It’s 35 characters. A tournament of that length would take hours. Awesome in theory, but I don’t think it would work with a cast that large, sadly. Even 5vs5 teams can take a pretty good amount of time. Probably a very cool concept though for a game with a smaller # of characters.

“if you build it, they will come” waynes world. do it.

Nothing wrong with being ambitious jebailey. Its gonna be alot of work but I don’t see why it couldn’t happen I mean we live in Orlando not butt fuck Alabama. We got Disney, IOA and tons of other tourist attractions I don’t see why some of Japans top players wouldn’t wanna come .

What date are u working on? Before or after mv3. Are u going to include mv3

June 10-12th. Nah I’m not gonna have MvC3, nobody will be playing it ;).

I’m gonna send you a private msg that says Douche more if you don’t respond to my MothaF***ing MSG’s!!! : /.
Oh and the tourney is gonna be good cause were all gonna gonna help you as much as possible, like what more do you need : ) heh heh. Plus entertainment is my shit so I know I can hype this event up crazy.
Ps. @dro Japs fucking love DISNEY WORLD and Karaoke lol

Dude lol. I’m not ignoring you, I haven’t been getting any messages from you about CEO and such. So send me whatever I may have missed.

PS come hack my shit lol. Btw get Epic Mickey for Wii, that game is really badass if you’re a Disney Fan. Think Kingdom hearts on easy mode and only using Mickey Mouse.

yeah that’s why i said it’d be cool, but impossible
japan does it yearly for gg and bb, and in the past they only had 2 teams, one for one side of japan, one for the other, but recently it seemed like they had more than 2.
but it would be really awesome to be able to run something like this as an EC v WC exhibition match some day

I downloaded epic mickey and donkey Kong last night so I will for sure try them out later tonight. And yea we’ll just talk in person next time im in orlando.

@Dro — I know you’re off today/tomorrow, so let me know if you wanna get some practice in. Or if anybody’s hosting, holler!

I think ben’s message is semi-warranted as you need some perspective. We all know you are loaded and all but with the given information that we have it sounds like if you don’t get 250 room nights you lose 10g’s which is a big gamble to make. I’m fully certain he, as well as the rest of us have all the faith in the world in your tourney organization, we would just hate to see you fall just a hair short of what you need and lose the big gamble because you were 25 room nights short ya know.

Again this is all dependent on the terms of your contract, which for good reason have not been given to us, but that’s prolly where he was coming from.

he’s just letting you know he was concerned :P.

This thread just got all warm and cozy, like the feeling you get when watching Little House On The Prairie while sharing fig newtons and egg nog with loved ones during the holidays.

fuck off you carebear fuck.

And now we’re back to normal…

I know and I appreciate his and everyone else’s concern. But he had so much doubt in his email saying he hopes I didn’t get the hotel yet and I should totally scale back and look somewhere else. Hence why I was bothered by it and wanted to speak my mind.

Like I said everyone is giving great advice on what to do and such but unless anyone is actively looking out for venues or wants to offer helping with money then I won’t care for their opinions on the venue itself.

Problem with RF (besides the cost of importation) is mostly that he lacks celebrity.

Competitive players of multiple games know who he is, but a lot of randoms will have no idea who he is, and unless he’s part of a fairly big lineup (and promised to be showcased in a game he’s particularly well-known for like Guilty Gear), randoms aren’t going to come out of the woodwork and pay good money just because he’s there (in a region where he doesn’t typically appear, plus the added convenience of not having to travel very far to see him), the way they would for a big-name Japanese SF player or even a big-name American SF player.

It’s not just people who want to FIGHT Daigo who’d make the journey to any event with him, random people from nearby states or in-state who otherwise wouldn’t even go to a tourney would likely emerge from their caves just to bask in his aura. That means more door fees, a more profitable event, and the chance of repeat attendance by big-name talent because they know the pot will be absolutely STUFFED with grade-A American freedom (I SPENT ALL MORNING COMING UP WITH THAT ONE, I AM A COMEDIC GENIUS). Makes a lot more financial sense for any up-and-coming event to court THAT kind of celebrity.

@Jebailey

Sorry about coming off as passive-aggressive by PMing you, I just thought it would be inappropriate to express such cynical views in the public thread. I meant no offense, and in case you’re wondering, none was actually taken at your response.

I don’t doubt that you have experience with this business AND you’re aware of the realistic prospects of taking a hit. I just mostly worry about you taking a hit on this stuff because I DO respect and appreciate your efforts in this community and would hate to see you get screwed by honest effort (as opposed to ignorant hubris like what happened with the G.A.M.M.E. fiasco). Even considering your previous successes, a 10k hit because people are (have always been, and will always be) cheapskates about rooms/non-tourney entertainment is nothing to take lightly. I think CEO has great potential as a growing yearly event, and would hate to see its future prospects set back because you took a (however slight) hit and lost face as a result.

I will concede, however, that there’s a lot more buffers against financial failure right now than there used to be for these events. The advent of sponsorship seems to be making financial partnership a lot more secure (and straightforward…much easier to cross-promote and share financial burdens, I imagine), publicity is better than ever thanks to YouTube, Facebook and streaming, and you have unprecedented moneymaker games in the form of SSF4 and Smash. Perhaps I did not weigh those factors heavily enough when I expressed my opinion.

So basically, I’m saying exactly what Ian said, only longer and more annoying to read. I apologize if I offended you, I was merely getting something off my chest, and of course my opinion will likely brighten as more news about the event comes to light. I continue to respect your transparency, reliability, and good will as a tournament organizer. And of course, you can count on my continued support for any and all future CEO events.

Thank you, and God Bless America.

Orlando, FL needs more Adon. Ed and I can only do so much…and by this statement I mean Ed can only do so much.
