hence me starting the conversation…
Ben and I are going to FR. We’re probably going to drive because I’m a cheap fucker and I already asked for Thursday and Monday off anyway. We still haven’t arranged for a hotel yet, so we’re open to pooling our resources with anyone else who’s interested in riding with us/splitting the room. As long as we can put up with you for the drive each way!
Just started perusing the Revelations thread and came across Jebailey’s post…
“First of all I’d like to ask all my Jemaniacs to back off from all the hate now to this thread…”
Jemaniacs??? LMFAO — I’m gonna buy you a Sea Dog this week, buddy  That was great.
I agree completely; the problem with Vega is that while he’s hard to stop with momentum, you get one good read on him and you can start rapidly retaking all the ground he’s made compared to other characters because when in doubt, he HAS to clam up and not press buttons. He’s got too little life to gamble on stabbing you from disadvantage.
Problem is, he’s a SHITTY fucking turtle because he’s free on wakeup and damn near free to all but the stupidest jump-ins. Fei’s gambling odds are MUCH more in his favor vs. Vega; Vega can’t fuck him terribly hard on punish without Ultra and he has no good reversal to cheeseball frame traps – and when Fei touches you, it fucking hurts, so Vega has absolutely no incentive to do anything but block until you either get predictable or push yourself out of frame trap range.
And even then, if you’ve got Vega scared, why not just jump? He’s Vega, he can’t hurt you. If you have enough brain cells not to jump from neutral into air throw or vertical j. HK, you can jump all over that little yodeling bitch and laugh at his misfortune to not be Bruce Lee.
There’s GOTTA be a better Fei counter than Vega, but I know too little about what counters Fei (it sure ain’t Bison, and it REALLY won’t be Bison in AE) to say what that is.
@Irvyn
“Garbage” I think is too harsh a word. This game isn’t prone to earth-shaking and I think once the dust settles, it won’t be any worse against Fei and the Ying Yang Twins than it was against Sagat in vanilla. I for one will NEVER quit Bison, if only because between all those other games I play, I have no time to learn anyone else.
a realy turtley honda could be a good counter for fei and i think balrog just because of his awesome pokes, but in reality i don’t think there will be a great counter pick for fei and we will just have to pony up to losing to the kid for his character being even better…
Where is this thread everyone keeps talking about? Can someone link it please?
I agree. I’m just going by whats been said. The only way to really know is to get our hands on the game. Time will tell.
That Term is so last year now, The new one is Jeciples.
Here’s the thread Irvyn. http://shoryuken.com/f7/revelations-2011-20-000-ssfiv-june-10-12th-lax-264000/
It’s locked now, I have no clue who locked it or what the TL guys must be thinking now after getting such a bad rap, guess we’ll see when they come back with an announcement.
I need one since I am finally going this year. Job money FTW.
Eric and I should be going, by car, no hotel plans as of now.
I cant believe I just wasted my time reading this thread. Hey, I didn’t have anything better to do at work, but work.
im thinking bout driving up there and just stayign with my aunt…
Justin Wong and James Chen-
Confirmed for CEO.
Revawho?
But isn’t anything whiffed deserved to be punish hard? How does that come into effect of rating a match? If Fei-long whiff a flame kick, I can punish him with cr. mp > ex wall dive. I agree with the damage difference, but Claw takes away position and tools that Fei-long depends on. I actually see it 6-4 Claw in the long run once there is a viable way to land ultra.
Counter picking is viable strategy these days. I like Ken, too. Don’t see no reason to pick him up because Yang have better match ups.
You don’t turtle with Vega, ever. His wake-up game has improved a little with the revamped ex flip kick. Here is a video of Vega vs. Fei-long. I’m hoping you see a difference in AE from Super or Vanilla.

I actually think Fei Sakura could be in Sakura’s favor come AE. At worst its probably even.
With buffs to far forward and nerfs to his heavy chicken wing, getting in will be slightly tougher for Fei.
Every rekka, single or double is punishable for big damage except correctly spaced lp single rekkas.
The footsies situation is fairly even, and the up close game is a battle of strengths, Sak has her outstanding damage output and Fei has the ability to set some brutal frametrapps (compounded by the fact that he only has a 13f reversal to deal with).
Claw has no viable ways to land into ultra tho, couple that with the fact that fei’s damage out put is higher his pokes slightly less, but he has the ability to punish any FA attempt with rekkas on reaction, he has better wake up options. At it’s worst it’ll be just a really annoying match up for the fei player due to claws trying to outpoke. I seriously don’t see this being in vega’s favor at all in any iteration of SFIV if both players are of equal calibur. From the vid it didn’t look like the fei was too comfortable with the match up but then again it’s really early and you could be entirely correct…
I maintain honda and rog prolly being the best counter pick due to the ability to db against him and just chill and wait for mistakes
yes lets completely ignore how awesome feis cr.mp cr.hp and st.hp are
Fei beats Claw 8-2
In life too
biatches
In all honesty I don’t know, is his cr.hp special cancelable?
That thing has reach for days but I can’t remember ever having that followed up.
I concede Fei has some really solid buttons though. Haven’t really read up on his changes, all positive in that regard far as I’m aware, but I’ll play footsies with Fei Long.
Sakura has some nice stuff from where Fei wants to play footsies from as well.
@Torrin
I’m not saying Vega SHOULD turtle, it’s just that in a lot of cases against a Fei who knows his footsies, you’re not really gonna have a choice. His normals are on the slow side for attacking from disadvantage, and he can’t laugh off trades like even 1000-HP characters can vs. Fei. Vega’s offense isn’t bad at all, but I always felt like it was very easy and relatively low-risk to disrespect. No blockstrings means you have to rely on stagger strings, which means relying on gaps, which means running an elevated risk of reversal or your opponent slipping out of your pressure. This is a bigger deal with Vega than for other characters because he loses ground FAST when he’s on the defensive. If Fei’s got the advantage, you’ve really got to shut up and sit still if you don’t want to rapidly increase your life deficit, because Vega has no good “get off me” buttons even if Fei gets predictable. Problem is, sitting still really works in Fei’s favor; if he presses his luck and takes a hit for overreaching, he can laugh it off a lot better than Vega can. Fei can get reckless in the pursuit of big payoff, Vega can’t.
That said, in AE it looks like his neutral poking game has gotten a bit better, which is what he really needs against Fei. Stuff like the c. MK buff is pretty big at neutral because that move grants a lot of frame advantage, but is painfully slow to start up, which makes its ideal range very easy to telegraph and get jumped on. At neutral, it IS a very even match. It just turns into a terrible match when Fei gets a knockdown and starts his offense in earnest. This is not a trivial thing to consider given Fei’s bandwagon prospects in Orlando.
I love that people start assigning matchups in favor of x vs. y or y vs. x for a game they haven’t even played yet. =) Only time will tell. I agree that Vega, Honda and Rog should be roughly even matches (unsure of which direction it’ll go). I used to think Fei was a free opponent for Sim, but people started stepping their game up once Mago started maining him, and now he gives Sim fits. He can land his level 2 focus SO easily against most players, leading to big damage. Mk flame kick fadc ex chicken wing takes off sick damage, as well as cl.fp xx 3xrekkas. In all honestly, if my execution were more solid, I’d have seriously contemplated picking up Fei Long a LONG time ago. I think he’s a very fun character to win with, and has ridiculous combo-ability.
I’m hoping to still be maining Sim come AE, primarily because he’s just such a unique character (and I LOVE that so few people play him), but it is certainly not concrete. Kudos to you, Ben, for sticking it out with 1 character, version after version (My SF4 evolution… vanilla = Rog, Super = Sim, AE = ?)
nah it’s not, if it was he’d be broken XD.
@Tony To be fair it’s not an entirely new game we do have some basis for comparison.
