US insisted on the mass immigration of Jews to palestine and the unilateral creation of Isreal through the UN over the UK’s objections and goals of incrementalism and working with Palestinians. We just saved UK’s ass, so they went along with it.
US propped up the Shah, which led to popular support for the Ayatollah, the only political opponent that couldn’t be repressed. Cue Iranian revolution.
US supported Saddam against Iran, and created/supported the mujahadeen against the Soviets in Afghanistan. We literally trained the soldiers that we fought against 20-30 years later. This is also where Osama Bin Laden got his start and then founded Al-Quaeda.
The war in Iraq. Thanks Dubya. Our inevitable departure and insistence on a 1 state solution leaves a power vacuum that is taken advantage of by ISIS.
Mishandling of the “Arab Spring” revolutions. I have no fucking idea why our top brass think toppling Middle Eastern strongmen will somehow magically create a democracy. It has happened exactly 0 times now.
For the record, I don’t think every Muslim is a terrorist, just like every Christian isn’t a slobbering, Westboro Baptist Church member.
However, even the so-called “moderate” Muslims have no problem with stoning a woman that is accused of adultery, removing the hand of a thief, lighting rape victims on fire, or beheading someone for being gay…
…there’s something fundamentally flawed in that society that I don’t think can be solved anytime soon.
Good question. Here is one suggestion, and i think its a great one.
Within developed nations like the us, england, ect… we just have to engage more in open discourse between muslims, ex-muslims, and intellects like sam harris and the like. One big problem this country has, is there are ZERO national, publicly televised debates except for when the president is running for office.
Just think about how asinine that is. If we had maybe 4 National open debates a year, think of the progress we could make with people. Debates on climate change, racism, radical islam, creationism vs evolution, bandwidth caps from ISP’s, and tech in general. The list goes on
People should petition for this. For there to be nationally broadcasted debates every quarter to discuss the problems we face in this country.
No more wasting time with 24/7, idiotic news yelling matches, and nonsense. Just have qualified people debate the issues. The president, congress, supreme court, ect… should all be forced to be in attendance too. None of this head in the sand bullshit americans love to do.
Honestly, this should also be the case for people running for public office. You shouldnt only be questioned by idiotic voters, or simple questions chosen by mediocre moderators, and only debating among each other. If you cannot take on the best of the best we have to offer on some topics, maybe you honestly dont deserve to be in office.
There is no way someone like donald trump couldve made it this far, or the republican and democratic officials in general be so idiotic, if they actually had to stand up to other non idiots that are not a part of their circle jerk.
We are enabling idiocy in this country, seemingly on purpose.
And then you also have to deal with wahhabists and salafists.
Saudi Arabia, the country that controls Mecca must reform so that others will follow the domino effect.
I would say, what do people do with their free time to be so dense, but that would be rhetorical. No shocker the girl with blue hair, and blue lipstick thinks islam is a religion of peace. Regurgitating nonsense.
Watched this earlier. He said out his mouth from his experience, this is not a minority view in islam.
Rachel Maddow is horrid. I despise her existence, but the interview was great. He even checked her for implying that it was somehow crazy that he wasnt allowed in the usa to do this interview, and was sent back to london. Really. Youre surprised they didnt let in an ex radical islamist who was thinking of bombing a place in london, right after the largest mass shooting in american history. I cant stand her so much.

Holy shit, look at all the right wing trolls shitting on him in the comments. I thought SJWs and Islamist apologists would be the ones calling him a sellout porch monkey because they had done that with Maajid Nawaz and he works with Maajid, but no, it was the right wing trolls. Fucking friendly fires.

“…One thing that I really want to mention, is that as an Islamist there were lots of people that agreed with me- the fact is that the Islamist ideology isn’t just a fringe minority view, it’s more of a significant strain of Islam…”
Wow quite fascinating… straight from the horse’s mouth. This guy is a veritable goldmine in terms understanding the more discreet aspects of Muslim life. I’ve spoken with Turkish and Lebanese Westernized or ex-Muslims abroad and what he mentioned sounds quite similar to what they had to deal with in their home life. Fortunately for them, their less repressive Muslim countries offered more social outlets (music/concerts being the primary vice since it’s forbidden in the literal interpretation of Islam), although Turkey is becoming more and more radicalized by the minute.
