Awesome… I know exactly half of the people in oregon rankings…
To the defense of this, there was a small showing tonight. Several of the big namers either couldn’t make it, want to climb the ladder from the bottom, or don’t care yet. Overall, there really wasn’t any surprises here for me. those whom i felt were the top players took the top 3 spots. When the challenges start to happen, this will probably take off.
Congrats to R_Panda and G_Effect for getting this going.
GGs last night, mad props to K for making it out even though he had things to do.
and congrats to David for fighting his way up to 1st place.
gg’s for sure. There were definitely some highlights to that last conversation with K, Panda, and G_Effect. I am interested to see how this all goes in the next couple of weeks.
One thing I am noticing, the scene in Portland is growing for sure. Seems like there needs to be a little distinction with the people coming into it. Really, there is ‘new the scene’, and ‘new to the game’. Quite frankly, I haven’t seen too many flat out new to the game people at any of the Portland gatherings, save regulars bringing their friends trying to get them into the game. Even that is here and there. I think really new to the game people don’t even bother trying to plug in yet, probably waiting to get to a certain level before contacting the group. But there are certainly people who have been playing that are looking to plug further into the Portland scene now. There were some examples of this last night, and at various times over the last couple of months. With some type of ranking system, we can now see where everyone falls, including long time regulars and new to the scene peeps. Also, that way players coming in can earn a bit more respect than just being the new guys. More specifically, some of these new scene guys could directly push some regulars in our scene down the ladder. Hope no one gets salty about that. Skill is skill. Anyway, thanks to K, Panda and Angel again for the effort. K’s title: score keeper?
It was kinda funny…i was constantly trying to update the results while playing my matches…even kinda wanted to lose out so i could keep the brackets moving and still record all the data. REALLY good learning for me…proved concept for record keeping. and it didn’t take a lot of time. got some interface ideas as a result also.
I cleaned up the other thread a bit if you’re interested in looking. My lead programmer and i are talking about converting this to an offline application due to the issues i had with a lack of internet connection…and if that works, i’m pretty sure i’ll convert it to the android platform as well.
As for last night, the big props go to you and Panda for the epic battle at the end.
Car problems and work are complicating mah life, but I’ll have an update for the OP tonight. (2am)
Thread will be updated with the new rules later tonight by Panda. We took alot of the feedback from the community and made some adjustments. The new adjustments make our ladder alot more similar to Rayblade’s system instead of Seattles. Also, if you didnt make the tournament on sunday don’t sweat it. The majority of our community hasn’t joined the ladder yet so now is the perfect time to add you name. Your name will be added to the bottom of the ladder(obviously the longer you wait the farther down the ladder you have to start) and you can start challenging and moving up right away. We definately encourage all our new players to join as well as our OG status players(like Ms. Darkness, BBH, Omne, Fatbear, Slash, Tajiri, Xersis,Fullmetal Ross, Pasqual, Yangsing, Sam B, Kiwijibo, Ronnicle, Mackinzie and everyone else). Thanks for everyone’s support so far and we are all looking forward to some HYPE competiton. Let the fight for the right to be called Portlands Top Players begin!!!
Pretty much going to have to drive to Portland like crazy if I’m to be a part of this right? Since this isn’t a centralized thing, I pretty much have to already know the people to play? Is this only conducive to a particular circle of players?
Just wondering how a new face can sink their teeth in a piece of this.
^ Good questions. I’m sure other peeps have the same ones. Yes you are going to have to travel to Portland. Slash, Kwyjibo, Ronnicle, and Holy Robot are all from Salem and come to Portland to play quite often. I would suggest talking with them to arrange a carpool situation. Portland IS the centralized location. We have peeps from Vancouver, Beaverton, Salem and other surrounding areas who come to Portland because its where the majority of players are and where the most events take place. This is open to EVERYONE not just a select few. We want to expand our scene and level up our game as a community which is why we are doing this. The majority of challenges will take place in person at our weekly events (Best Bout Dungeon, Crows Nest, Sole Purpose), BUT its not limited to just those places. As long as you have a witness, you can hold challenges anywhere (including Salem). Keep in mind you will only be able to challenge those close to you in rank(within 4 ranks). If you wish to challenge someone that you currently don’t know, then you would officially challenge them in this thread. The 2 of you (you and the person you challenged) can arrange a time and place that works for both of you as long as you have a third person as a witness(another player in the ladder not some random dude). If the person who has been challenged doesn’t contact you or respond within 1 week, then you win by default and you move up. We hope you decide to join in. If you have any more questions let me know.
Next time i go up to pdx i’ll give you a call Inverse to see if you want to come. With any luck that will be this friday.
if there was a gathering in salem called ‘salems lot’ id hella forget about portland.
im about to challenge Joe
Do iiit.
Thanks for being patient about the update, my car broke down this morning so shit’s been chaotic.
I’d like input on how many matches challenges should played to. (A PERIOD CAN"T GO THERE)
Currently it is ft3 for challenges to 1st through 5th place, and ft2 for everyone else. Anyone else think that’s a little low?
FT2 is, in my mind, best 2 out of 3 sets which I think is best.
Although perhaps FT3 by 2?
Please explicitly tell me if you want to join the ladder.
So, you want to play two out of three games Slash? Just to make things clear, your post isn’t crystal clear to me. @_@
Oh, people can contact me on AIM or MSN too btw. (Name/address to the left there)
i think the 1st through 5th should be at least first to 5 or 6, i think 6 would be fair because there could still be 10 matches which is a nice number that tier lists also use.
also, are there still tiers? from the OP im not exactly sure what all has changed/which of Ray’s ideas were adopted(besides the lower amount of matches)
No tiers. You challenge peeps according to your rank(up to 4 ranks). FT5 is very time consuming and may not be possible at all locations due to the amount of people and amount of set ups available. The last thing we wanna do is make this an inconvenience for others especially since there are still alot of players not involved. If players are constantly waiting for us to finish our challenges the ladder will be viewed in a negative way. In the future when the majority of the scene is involved then we make the matches longer. We shoud take this 1 step at a time though.
definitely a good point, might be in the best interest to take baby steps while its still in the introductory period.
hmm… tough choice, glad i dont have to make these kinds of decisions xD.
im challenging Joe though, so how many games should we play?
