Jon Fitch baby. and wow Sonnen surprised me
I thought Sonnen was going to pull it off but Anderson got that modified arm bar out of the Triangle and that is all she wrote.
yeah that was a heart breaker, still quite a change of pace to see anderson get dominated, and for 3.5 to 4 rounds even. maybe that will light some fire under the middleweight division.
How mysterious. I was sad when I found out I had missed that LAN because I never knew about it.
Dunno if I’ve played you; don’t recognize the tag. I try to go to every smashfest Allen holds. I crave Melee so much. Still waiting in Corvallis over the summer hoping someone will stop by and play
I could be wrong but my understanding is Random Select is no more…
Also, in the basement “Game Center” of the SMSU building of PSU, they have a little arcade setup with sanwa parts hooked up to a PS3 that has SSF4, MvC2, and MKII (lol) on it. The best part of all? It’s completely free to use. It’s presumably for PSU students only, but they never check as far as I can tell.
So I use a regular Xbox controller. Should I upgrade and what would you guys suggest?
Can’t go wrong with a MadCatz TE stick. Rather mod-able as well if you’re interested in that now or believe you ever will be.
Yeah I will be. I will try it out and see what it is all about.
I know some of us were talking about how to run regular events and get a good community space going for playing and such. I think the Box Arena setup the San Diego guys have setup is pretty cool. They run their stuff at a local independent cafe, have regular casual play sessions, ranbat tournaments, and then occasional larger tournaments. You can see how they’ve gotten a few local businesses as sponsors, and provide good business for the venue as well. Backspace is right next to GK and already does a lot of event type hosting, I wonder if that might be a good place to go in the future if we need to expand? They certainly have a lot more open space at least.
Also since we were talking about a local ranking systems a while back, and we now seem to have 2 regular local tournaments going, why the hell aren’t we just using those for a ranking setup???
“were” being the keyword there.
the ranking system wasn’t successful.
traditionally, i don’t like to answer a question with a question, but:
instead of worrying about a ranking system, how about we train correctly and actually learn how to play the game at a competent level so our scene isn’t so free?
Not trying to naysay anything, but it really feels like comparing apples to oranges here.
Box Arena is in San Diego, their scene alone is probably about as big as portland+salem+eugene+vancouver.
Add in to the fact that you have LA really close by and it pretty much makes it 4+ times as big.
I’ll probably talk to some of the box arena guys to see what they have done and just get their insight since I do want Portland to be big, but we should also try to make it big enough to get seattle and, again, montana to come out
I’ll be real, I love GK, but I think holding tournaments there might start becoming difficult, especially if we have 40+ people attending the tournament, with participants that are under 21 (KINUE, Ronnicle, Virsaga, etc.). Yes, a 4th setup would help, but it wouldn’t be a cure, just a band aid. The space of the stage also works against GK in that, well…there isn’t a lot and to make the tournaments better, IMO, they need to get streamed. Yesterday was a pretty lame day to stream. 16+ tournaments and at least half getting streamed lol. Haha, and damn Team Spooky for getting the big tournament.
Now in regards to the ranking system, we know who the top players in Portland are, there really isn’t a need for a ranking system at this time. On any given day, IMO, you pretty much know who the top 5 are, and can probably put in a bet on top 8. Top 3 will be the same 3 people, just in different positions, 4-6 is the same, just mixed around and 7 and 8 change. I think once we’re able to start leveling up HARD and enough people care about a true ranking system, then yeah, it’ll be cool.
Bout time boy. Bout damn time.
