So I’m getting back into fighting games after a bit of a hiatus (I LOVE Third Strike) and I want to get into playing them on my 360.
I have a custom stick (dreadedfist) with sanwa parts in it as well as a modded SF15 (happ) that I’d like to use. My issue is (as everyone knows) the XFPS adaptor is like $90 which is a bit expensive.
What do you guys think, should I splurge on the Adaptor to use my current sticks that I love or should I pay the $60 and pick up the HORI EX2?
From what I know, that converter isn’t even that reliable. So not even worth those $90. You’d be better off buying a custom 360 stick for a bit more or going with the EX2.
Been thinking about getting another custom, but my issue is having “another” stick in the house, I’ve got 2 already, in earnest i’m hoping they make another adapter that comes up cheaper and more reliable.
If you don’t want to get an extra stick I think the best choice you have is to get a 360 PCB and put it in one of your existing sticks. I believe someone is selling pre-wired ones for $40 in the Trading Outlet. So for $40 and a little bit of work you can have a nice 360 stick without having more clutter.
Also you’re in New York, so you can most likely find someone to put in the PCB locally. That’s if you’re not comfortable working on the sticks yourself.
Yeah I could change the PCB, but I was hoping to avoid altering my current sticks (other then adaptors) if possible. I would more then likely cobnsider altering the SF15. I consider the DreadedFist stick to be a collectors item since he doesn’t make sticks anymore.
I’ll keep my eyes open for an EX and see what I come up with. I haven’t used an HORI in years so i’m not to sure how its gonna feel.
i was in a similar situation. I decided to just go with the hori… a cheaper and more reliable solution but beware.
I love my sanwa stick and going to hori felt like garbage to me… fully playable without any real issues but it felt generic and I ended up ordering a new custom for the 360.
Just gonna throw that out there maybe it will help your decision.
Yup, thats sorta what I was thinking too. I’m looking at a few stick makers since DF doesn’t work anymore. Axis is looking real good. I figure If i’m gonna spend I may as well do it right from the beginning.
I solved my basic problem for now. I think i’m gonna wait it out for a better ps2 to 360 adapter that isn’t 80+ bucks.
I’m itching to buy a new stick for the 360 but I love my current ones and would rather use those if possible.
I did however find a copy of Third Strike for Dreamcast for a mere $40 which should tide over my stick needs for practice since I already have a TCP that works perfect with both sticks.
you arent ever gonna get a better adapter for 360. its not gonna happen. the usb ports are secured by microsoft. any 3rd party that wants to make usb peripherals for 360 has to get permission from MS to use. and guess what, theres NO WAY in hell MS is gonna allow a company to to make a device that allows their competitors product(sony) on their console.
and btw, the xfps may be 90bux, but if you dont have a wired 360 controller, you gotta spend another 20-40 on one of those to make it work. so you are spending roughly 120 on a very very very VERY VERY crappy adapter.
get a 360 pcb, put it into a stick, add it in, dont remove your ps2 pcb. make it a multi console stick. its not hard. if you can wire a pcb, you can wire it up for multiconsole.
better in what way? More reliable? Maybe we will, maybe we won’t but we’ll definately get other adapters. Spending $90 on an adapter is crazy and although it has improved since the first iteration, I’m pretty sure other companies will come up with alternatives. XFPS got it to work, there is obviously a way to get limited licensing for the product.
I do have a wired controller. And sure I can do the PCB rewire but i’m not really interested in messing with my current sticks.
