Ono's ridiculous aesthetics

It’s part of the character, suit him well
If anything is one of the best SFV works as animations/mannerism: him, Mika, Bison over all. Probably Fang too. They really gain design deepness

If you are a giant, obese criminal old school punk chances are you hygiene suck and you don’t smell like roses.
Good job capcom

About over-the-top goofy aesthetic do you even anime bro?
Many anime got fun characters designed to be the light moment, it’s part of anime aestethic

Think Onepiece it’s a festival of goofyness, they put it even in serious character’s designs

After SF3 SF started tooking itself less seriously and lowered the age target too, as result the goofy side gained weight

Example while i will like see Blanka as the fierce beast of SF2 days, i also understand the stylistical choice that bring them to turn him into that douchebag green gorilla

I don’t know, some goofballs here and there make the cast more unique.
A character can have a goofy personality and look cool. Just a example from SnK:

Blanka for example turned into a goofball over time. He was pretty beasty in SF2, but turned more and more into Shrek 2.0.
His background is serious too, just his appearance and overall look… I mean watch his eyes the moment you activate your Ultra. Some faces are stupid, his needs a new definition.

Angel doesn’t have a goofy personality.

When your super involves summoning bananas and watermelons, you can’t be taken seriously ever again.

Hm I don’t think so.
You have basicly someone who takes nothing serious,is either flirting or playing with the opponent, hates it if someone gets close and is pretty much disappointed that you breath after she beat you, because she has no reason for mouth to mouth.
The funny thing is, I like her for beeing like this.

Thats my point with SF, goofy chars act and look most of the time like goofy char.
Fuerte,Rufus,Q,Twelve,Blanka since SFIV.
Hell, have you seen Ryus eyes in SFV if he gets hit? They want to jump out of his head.

That flex from Mika and Zangief in the opening is pretty ridiculous…

WTF are you on? That’s like one of the best parts, after Bison’s walk, Bison’s hat, Bison’s smile, Bison this and Bison that. Bison Bison Bison.

No, it’s the worst.

It’s my favorite part, the cutest part, the best part. Flex/miniflex. So good!

The whole CG intro could be better without that bizarre ‘dry brush’ shader on the characters IMO.

It seems they’re kinda afraid of presenting the characters in pure 3D aesthetics, and then they keep trying to literally hide them under those effects like… every single time. Ah! Do an Anime intro already, or accept once for all they’re not 2D anymore.

What’s the problem of 3D cartoon anyway? It won’t look like Tekken if you do it right.

I think they want the 3D models to retain a drawn or painted feel. Capcom can’t decide if they want SF to look like anime/2D art or 3D cartoon/action figure models. They are exactly in the middle road between GGxrd and KI/MK.

I’m a guy that likes boobs n’ butts, but even I feel put-off by the over sexualization of the females in this game. Most of the original costumes are ok, though Cammy and Chuns nipple pokeys are a little much, but good lord Laura’s alt is just silly looking. Looks like it was designed by a horny 13 year old or worse, Netherealm studios.

Guess you’ve never seen women dress like that before…

Short shorts, yeah, t shirts, yeah. Gratuitous underboob and thong pulled way up into her armpits? Not so much. And its not even like I think women shouldn’t wear stuff like that, it just doesn’t seem to fit her character (though honestly there’s not much dimension to her character yet) so it comes off as forced.

Wait what? They actually put clothes on the female chars this time around. They got redesigned and actually look great.

On topic: As much as I like SF, I dislike the aesthetics and wish they went the route of MKX; the game looks gorgeous and most of the cast classics got big visual improvements in terms of design. I understand that SF is now supposed to be all silly/quirky but can’t say I’m a fan. FANG tries too hard and it comes off is cringey, Birdie didn’t need to be an obligatory obese slob, Rashid is far too upbeat and white-washed. Would it kill them to add some culture to the game? I feel like I can’t complain because that’s just the style of the game and I’m sure some people out there like it. Tekken has definitely always had my favorite roster. In many ways, they feel sane and normal without going out of their way to fit some specific cliche or stereotype. Hell, even MKX’s cast has improved in that sense too. Also confused as to why Cammy isn’t allowed to wear pants.

I don’t think you’ve seen the world.

I’m sure he has. No one’s doubting that’s how some women dress on a hot day but it doesn’t make the design any less boring. It also wouldn’t be far-fetched to assume that part of the purpose is catering to horny teenagers.

Or…just catering to the males? Maybe even females? I dunno. I don’t see what the problem is…

Well yes, it’s clearly catering to males and whatever women that’d find it hot. There’s not really a problem. Asking a female friend now, she just feels it’s a tad bit revealing. Again, I think it’s just boring but everyone has their own take on it. Some people Brazil mentioned that it looks like hooker attire, others have said it’s “modest” depending on the area.

So let me get this straight, you want a serious street fighter game because slap stick is some how bad? Like, I don’t get it. Because the original game was more serious in tone the whole franchise shouldn’t deviate from that unless it’s a few characters?

Maybe the reason the first one was so serious was because no one knew how people would take the game and decided to stick with something generic and kinda familiar. Then as time progressed and Street Fighter became more popular maybe Ono wanted there to be more to a game than serious over tones.

This kind of thinking reminds me of people who don’t like when bands do different things with their music and complain that their original work was better than their new sound. While you respect the opinion, it just sounds like nostalgia worship.

Also, Chun- Li is muscular not fat. I highly recommend you google “Thick and Fit” and you’ll find several women with thick thighs like Chun- Li. It also helps to mention the fact that this being a fighting game, of course her thighs are going to be over dramatically more muscular.
