Ono's Riddle

Namco vs Capcom? You mean, Ling + Asuka + Sakura + Ibuki all in one game?!?!?!??!?!

Here’s what we got from Ono’s Twitter on this subject, thus far.

All of which and more, can be found here: Yoshinori Ono (Yoshi_OnoChin) on Twitter

So, since 6/29, we’ve been getting teased in Ono’s own, Engrishy way. But based on the few specific details where Ono playfully evades, it sounds much more that the Non-SF4-related announcement is definitely something else…and sounding more like what would be the “simplest answer”. Hell, you could even argue that when questioned about Inafune’s announcement, he still goes “Fufufu” (Japanese way of going “Hehehe”) and says for us to find out what’s waiting for us.

Something is definitely up. It’s just a matter of time until Inafune and Ono can tell us more.

Its a new VS game using the SFIV engine

Damn this news is starting to get my hopes up. Could this really be the new Darkstalkers we’ve all been waiting for? As much as I would love a Namco vs Capcom game, the idea of the new Darkstalkers finally coming out is way too inviting. I’m going to be very disappointed if Darkstalkers 4 is not announced at ComicCon.

And Inafune’s game better be Legends 3 or Onimusha 5. That is all.

Legends 3. Let Onimusha rest. LOD wasn’t that impressive.

It’s been resting for 5 long years. Also, Dawn of Dreams was great! Best game of the series imo.

There are plenty of decent Capcom series that have been resting just as long, if not even longer. But in any case, with Sengoku BASARA around, I doubt Capcom will likely see the need to revive Onimusha. Besides, Ono was able to use DoD as a means to start his SF4 campaign, so he likely doesn’t see the need to go back to it any time soon either.

I like DOD. I thought it was superb story and visual wise to it’s parent games.

Yeah but Onimusha is also a Triple A franchise. It’s not even in the same league as most of Capcom’s other franchises.

DOD was kind of weak. My least favorite in a series that was supposed to stop at 3 anyway.

Onimusha 1: because it’s samunosuke!

Onimusha 2: because the characters good and bad we’re interesting

Onimusha DOD: because it’s samunosuke with co’op!

online Onimusha please!

the return of capcom fighting all stars

Correction: It was a Triple A franchise. DoD didn’t perform to Capcom’s expectations for the franchise (blame lack of Samanosuke-Kaneshiro), and even though 3 did sell about a million WW, it still didn’t quite measure up to what Capcom wanted the game to sell, for all that they spent on production values for that game.

The basic thing is that Onimusha was fast becoming a Shenmue-style time and money sink that Capcom didn’t see see the worth in continuing. And with Inafune (executive producer of the series), Ono (producer of DoD) and others moving on to bigger and better things, there’s no one left to care about the series either.

Now Capcom of Europe is getting in on the Twitter cock-teasing…

Obviously, Capcom Europe’s twitter likely has some relevance to what’s going to happen next week. But maybe we might stand to get some more before even then? Stay tuned~

So Inafune’s announcement will be a new Megaman game most probably.

edit: fixed the link

It’s a collection of several older staple titles with online play available on 360 and ps3. Think about it…
life’s work
bigger than ssf4
etc…

This would be the only way to satisfy fighting gamers who hate SF4. They would now all be able to play they’re preferred older game with good net play on a modern console. (even though you can already do that with ggpo.)

Naomi games aren’t on GGPO afaik, and neither is DS collections. Definitely sounds like a nice, cheap project that would likely be popular with the FG scene. Also would be an excuse to experiment with online and other features. daydreams

SF2 series arcade ports
DS series arcade ports
3rd strike arade port
Marvel series arcade ports

all on a single disk, all with ggpo (or better).

whatever it is it wont have ggpo netcode so who cares

So, one of the announcements that was supposed to be showcased at CC have been shown today. Its name is Mega Man Universe.

Capcom creating Mega Man Universe - News at GameSpot

But to re-confirm, it’s NOT the Ono announcement. Sources on neoGAF can confirm that much. And there may be more announcements than that, if the Capcom Europe blog has anything to say about it…

yeah mm universe was known about for a while tho so i dont think that was it…
