bye bye
Also my only real problem with this is that no one knows who anyone is.
I can’t even tell if that is supposed to sound belligerent.
I don’t use Facebook, and I’m not going to start for the sake of SRK, so that excludes me, not vice versa. And yeah, sure, that’s no big loss for SRK, except for whatever iota of their revenue stream one more set of eyes viewing their ads might have accounted for.
Even if I did use Facebook though I STILL wouldn’t use it to post here. Not because I care if my friends know what my hobbies are (they know), and not because I’m afraid of someone looking to hassle me (though I’m sure if I were female I REALLY wouldn’t want my real name plastered over the website).
I wouldn’t do it because people who have a valid need to form an impression about you will search the internet to help them do so. I don’t want SRK being one of the first things that turns up when a potential employer googles my name. That may sound silly, but everyone I know who is in a position to hire for any sort of serious job does it, and there are enough people out there that either have a negative impression of gaming or would be offended by some of the stuff that goes on in the forums here that it isn’t worth the risk. If that is the sort of thing that will never concern you, good for you and more power to ya, but count me out.
Most of the people who are complaining about this change are the same front page SRK monsters who created troll accounts just so they can remain anonymous.
Yes.
Only… no.
Its not like you have to use your real info when creating a facebook account. Oh and I have a question for everyone. Will it be made possible in the near future to use our twitter to comment also?
Well played Mr Wiz
brb switching my bookmark to go directly to the forums
Against Facebook’s terms of use, and even if you don’t care about that it still isn’t worth the effort.
Seeing as this site is for a community that actively encourages folks to actually go and meet up IRL (for casuals, tourneys, etc.) I don’t see how this is a bad thing.
I do not use facebook and never will.
What’s your reasoning for this change? Are you afraid of people who post personal attacks anynomously?
Some of my front page comments have even been quoted by Skisonic in his podcast…
I and most of SRK members enjoy posting our thoughts in a civil way, we are not here to make personal attacks anonymously… the old system worked fine.
Most of the people here never go to local events (hell i’d be surprised if some of them even left their house) so anonymity is precious
Meh. Most of the comments on the front page are stupid anyway.
A great move, if only to see more nerds like Reticently rage. Hurry up and put up a facebook so we can judge your neckbeard.
I completely agree with this change.
People acting like not being able to comment means you won’t read the front page. What the fuck? Just read the news since it’s important to you (obviously or you wouldn’t post in here) and leave without commenting. It’s not that big a deal.
No rage, sorry. Just some annoyance and disappointment quickly fading into not caring about something I won’t be using.
Way to flex that social muscle though by calling out someone on a video-game forum for being a nerd. Astute.
I don’t have a facebook. oh well.
So, why do I now have to manage two accounts for SRK? This is a stupid design decision. There is no longer any connection at all between the front page and the forums for users, so why not just rename it and make it a different site?
Except for those who are complaining because they don’t want to have to create a Facebook account in order to participate in a conversation.
@nybb: pretty much, imo.
though at least it “fixed” the issue of me not being able to post comments at all on the frontpage. except now I don’t want to post if I have to use damn facebook.
