I’ve got a bone to pick with online rankings. It seems to me that whoever is up earliest on Sunday to play when the rankings reset have dibs on being top ranked and not losing it. For example, OPEMAI. Great Vega, and is currently no. 1 in XBL, but once he stops playing in the morning, then no one can challenge him for rank. This system seems sucky to me because if the so-called “defending” champion gets his rank and no longer plays rest of week, he usually stays no. 1 for a long-time in the weekly ranks.
Is it just me or does the “remixed all-time” hardly move?? It seems to lock you in place even after playing and improving.
It’s like looking at a list of Espada. If you truly want to consider yourself one of the top players in ranked, these are the ten you have to take down.
I like the perfect tracking on the website, I don’t think it’s a measure of how great you are - it’s largely down to how inexperienced your opponent is and what tactics you have to capitalize on it.
The way the rankings work is by player rating. Beating someone with the same or higher rating gives your more points then beating someone with a lower rating. In fact, if someone’s rating is vastly lower than yours then you get no points at all. Once I got near the 4800 mark I could win like 20 matches in a row and my rating would not go up at all because all the players I beat had to low a rating.
Also the reason why the “All-Time” list doesn’t move much is because your rating doesn’t deteriorate over time, so the top players ratings will always be good enough to be ranked top until other players get higher ratings.
I no longer play ranked matches since losing for stupid reasons got on my nerves.
Anyway I’ve played a lot of the top players and most of them in the top 100~ are decent players but that does not mean they are in order. I know someone ranked 200+ or so who deserves a place in the top 30 or so, just he has only played 22 ranked matches (and won 22). Match-ups matter a lot for me since I can beat some guys ranked in the top 100 quite easily yet lose to some random Guile or Sim. Saying that I imagine the top players earnt their place by being able to beat most people regardless of the match-ups.
And btw I’m from the UK so there tends to be lag when playing some good players from the US or Japan so maybe I got lucky in some matches against the top players.
