Oni is bad. Just not as bad as many think he is. The buttons have good reach, yeah, but very low priority.
when you say priority, you mean there is always a hurtbox near the hitbox right?your right, though there are some moves that are disjointed, so its really a non issue. I don’t think that he is anywhere near number 1 but i think oni is very good. the fact that he has so many good anti-airs, and can gain mix-ups off those anti-airs plus his damage output is AMAZING. plus comboing off a counter hit FW.mk( there may be some broken use to this, im still trying to find it.) plus he can demon trap you in the corner( can you srk while in blockstun?), ultras 1 and 2 have alot of invul.( on ultra 1 its from the first active frame till the hitbox appears.) Andthe amount of invulframes is a welcomed trade-off to having no fadc options on srk on block, if he could have done that errbody would be playing the character for the wrong reasons.
I wouldn’t say great kara throw, decent at best. everything else i can pretty much agree with.
So his Oni’s current ranking according to experts more due to design or lack of people picking him up? He seems like the type of character a lot of people would mess around with
his normals are good, his specials are decent. and his focus attack is terribad.
I’ve been messing around with him, but I just stop. There’s certain characters that just can’t be tried online, Oni is one of them.
Wanted to use Oni, won’t be able to use him for a few more days. One question: with his B+MP, FP target combo, will the FP still work if you keep holding back, or do you have to go to neutral when you hit it? I play on the 360 d-pad so any shortcut I can get is valuable to me.

What frames are Onis tatsus (all versions lk,mk,hk) ON BLOCK? are they safe or punishable?
Shoto tatsus are always screwed up. You would swear that Ken’s tatsu is punishable, for example, and yet somehow he’s able to get a throw or SRK before you even blink. Frame data for the tatsu puts it at -8 (Google “Oni Frame Data” and it’ll be the first result that appears). Should be punishable by almost everything, if not everything.

Just mash if you have meter, and for that is why I hate Ken’s tatsus. If I see the other opponent with meter, I do nothing and wait for the mashed dp… Or tech their throw.
i have 2 problems:
- my execution is terrible, i’m only able to connect c.lp (x2) to s.mp for a continuous combo 35-40% of the time, no matter how many times i try it in practice mode. how in the world will i ever be consistent with it?
- i also use f+MK at all the wrong places at all the wrong times. how do i use it without looking like a complete idiot?
For the 1st one, you just gotta get used to the rhythm of it I guess. You’ll eventually get used to it. I had the same problem with seismo feints with Viper, then when I finally got it I was like “Wtf? This is so damn easy!”.
2nd one I can’t really answer, I’ve only played Oni to mess around in Endless.
It’s a 1 frame. Plink it. You can use b.mp instead for an easier combo.
After watching the Oni vs Zangief and Oni vs Ibuki match ups in the Oni team video I had a few questions…

I saw Shinochan do a crumple stun followed by a backdash then ultra. I was wondering does this only work on tall characters (he was facing zangief), and also why does he backdash before doing the ultra? It does more damage when right next to the opponent?

Maybe cammy is even worse, haven’t got to that part of the video. However it seems like Ibuki can just safely keep rushing down Oni and he can do nothing except trying to time a perfect counter hit, it seems like he has to work way harder to win. What can Oni do against the rush down of Ibuki (and possibly other real fast strong rush down characters)?
could someone give me some good resets / mixup strings for Oni ? Also, if someone could list some safejump situations or point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys
His b.mp, cr.mp, cr.lp, and s.lp are all +2 on block or better. His b.mp, cr.hp, and s.mp all combo to lk slash and are 5-6 frames startup.
He has a kara throw with s.hk.
mk stomp can catch throw techs.
Do a hk tatsu and you can set up a crossup they can’t reversal DP.
Resets into throw are only useful if you want to try to end the round with an unscaled stun combo after landing a FADC combo. Resets into EX slash are useful but predictable.
If you do cr.mp, cr.mk, or s.mk xx lk slash, it doesn’t blockstring. If they get hit, you can FADC into a combo. You do this against people who always block the crossup slash, although it’s kind of a gimmick because they can usually just DP.
It works on everyone. He probably wasn’t sure the focus was going to hit, so he backdashed. Then, once he saw the crumple, he converted for max damage with raw ultra. Because they’re considered airborn if they slide down during the crumple, raw ultra is the best punish you can do.
Block the original setup. Just frame block the unblockable. Might be able to U2/up fireball U1 some things.
Ibuki gets really cheap oki, but her damage isn’t that high in general. She can get a lot with really difficult combos though.
She can’t continue pressure safely after you block the first left/right any more than any other character. She can do an overhead or jabs or her Tsumuji (spin kick) pressure, but she will eventually get pushed out if she does a solid pressure string.
The goal is to hit her before she hits you.

I could use some advice on executing TK airdash.
I have had some success on wakeup vs shoryuken characters doing the really low altitude forward dash into tatsu, then b.mp etc…
Thing is, i dont get the input as often as I’d like, although i have no issues with other tk aerial moves like cammys or 'sims teleports.
Not sure what i’m doing/not doing thats causing me the issues. What inputs are people doing to get the move out?
Also regards its usage, I am wondering if maybe using it off of f.mk would be a useful mixup, again with my execution of it being so flakey at this point I don’t have much experience to base that on. Opinions?
