It looks like Oni’s letting go of an epic fart if you instant air dash mp LOL.
I noticed a lot of comments here about Oni’s DP being un-FADC’able. But then, I was trying it out in training mode, and I could cancel on the second hit just fine. Am I missing something here?
Its un-fadc’able on block. On hit its absolutely fine, but you cant take wild guesses with it and make it safe with a fadc, if blocked.
Oni’s DP cannot be FADCed on block
What the hell is the input for the stomp attack? Is it srk motion with kick? I keep getting slashes when I’m doing it. Any advice?
It is srk+K. You might be rolling your stick/d-pad/analog from back to forward after blocking perhaps.
I’m not. It’s sad that this might be a reason for me to drop him right now even though I am enjoying him. I can do it 100% on pad but on stick it is literally impossible to get it out 100% of the time, I keep getting the slashes.
Any consistent way to use his kara grab on a madcatz fight pad?
Not really. On pad it’s easier with shoulder buttons unless you piano input on the pad. If you’re doing that you might as well get a stick though. Don’t forget kara grabs add a frame or two, so use accordingly.
My stick broke a few days ago so I’m settling for the fightpad. No problems execution wise save kara grabs, which I’ve never bothered with until now :(. I’ll try out the shoulder button.
-Test out 3ks and jab. Seems to work, if I can figure out the timing to get it out consistently I’ll be a moderate threat.
Hopefully they really do fix the falling out of ex tatsu glitch. I’ve been using my meter for fadc combos
Question: Out of all the bad ass names we could have picked for the Oni matchup thread, how did we fall on “Survey says!”???
Question: what’s the advantage of the mk stomp? It’s slower and does less damage. What am I missing?
It’s about the same speed as LK stomp. The reason it does less damage is because it has more range. It’s hard to tell just doing the move by itself, but if you do say 3ish jabs to a TC2 to a LK stomp, it will whiff. MK will hit. That also makes MK stomp better at avoiding (and then hitting) certain moves because of the extra distance it travels, though generally you will be using LK for most combos.
The extra range of MK stomp also makes it easier to space the attack and hit with the “earthquake” effect on land, rather than the direct hitbox of the move, which makes it much harder to punish.
HK stomp has the most range, but it’s incredibly slow.
Whiffing HK Stomp on someone’s wake up and watch them be completely open since they guessed wrong with a special >

Hi guys. I’m beginning SSF4AE (I was a casual Ken player on SF4) and I wonder… is it possible to main Oni without being frustrated as a newbie, or is this char reserved to advanced players ?
I know that a lot of people just tell to pick whoever you want etc. but I do not have strong nerves… that’s why I ask if it’ts a good idea to start with that guy.
Thanks
Yes it’s possible to main Oni as a newbie, but it will take awhile to start seeing any sort of development. But honestly, it takes awhile to develop with any character when you’re new to it. But there’s no “Advanced Players Only” stamp on Oni. Oni is certainly a good character to start with. Playing with him will develop alot of good habits for other characters. Not doing reckless DPs on wakeup (because he can’t FADC), using target combos, and developing a solid footsie game just to name a few. So go ahead and get in training mode.
Thanks, your words are encouraging ! I started training with the combo thread. The links are hard to do, but it’ll be okay !
I am just wondering noobie question! After a block string of say lp lp lk what should i do after? I seem to get uppercutted or something when I actually want to do something?
Stop the string and bait
Try a karathrow
Frame trap
Oni does not have any true blockstrings into special from jabs if thats what you are asking. His fireball is to slow
I had asked this question in another thread, but the response didn’t answer my question fully. If I am standing relatively close to the opponent who is against the end of the stage and jump and do light Zanku Hadosho and then EX tatsu, I have not found a way to get the EX tatsu cross-up consistently. It seems whether I do the EX tatsu early or late, either the front attack or the cross-up can occur. So how do I get the cross-up to occur?
