Was unsure of her idle stance, but I’m pretty sure this is it (according to the gameplay vid behind the Gamespot Ono interview).

Here’s what I changed (but remember it’s just raw “fixes”, you can do a lot better) :

added light on top of the back of the hand on the right. It looked too small because it looked vertical since you forgot the light there.
Also grouped his pinky finger with the rest of them as I bet Gouken doesn’t drink an imaginary cup of tea while on guard

-smaller wrist on the right, was too bulky

-stared adding a bit more volume on the right forearm as it suddenly drops into shadow (still looks like its on a totally different plan on mine)

made the whole forearm+hand in front bigger, and changed the angle so that it has a more natural angle with the shoulder also enlarged his torso to the left as his frame lacked balance. Also added some light on top of this arm as it’s in plain light.

-changed his skin tone a bit (but I think you should go even further) as it looked too much like a stereotypical “skin” colour. also it was not that far from Rufus’s/Abel’s, etc… you might want to differentiate chars more with their skin tones(but the others look just fine to me)

also I noticed you made the light spots on his skin by adding white, and it’s not your best choice.
Adding white (and in the same way, adding black to darken a colour) makes things flatter and breaks the colour. You may want to add more saturation to avoid that and instead add yellow to lighten up and a mix of the complementary colour+blue/violet to make shades.
Capcom’s style is more painterly than that(while SNK does what you did), they use mainly complementary colours (sometimes too much).
Use that combined with the idea of cold and warm colours.
You could think of you drawing as made of 3 parts (more or less…)
The deeper, colder shades, the warm, intermediate shades, and the plain hot light. Also, Capcom artists used a very nice trick : at the border between light and shade, they draw a very coloured hot outline (colour depends on the fabric). Check out Ryu’s trousers.

Last words, you get a bit lost on drawing the shoulders (yup it’s difficult), so that shows on your drawing, get it right, your light spot will look better and you’ll be able to detail it to the level of the oiginal 3S !

again, I’m not trying to diss you but to help, this is very fine work and you’re free to take what I say or not !

IMO,

The point of an animation sprite is to communicate quickly and efficiently. There is less contrast in your revision than in his original. Having said that, I believe his is more effective as a sprite. IMO.

The pinky is to express tension in the hand as shown in several actual martial arts. I got it, and I’m sure a lot of other people did too. Though evidently not in everyone’s taste, I respect that he added this little detail to make the style of sprite his own.

She definitely does remind me of more of a Plasma Sword/Star Gladiator type of character with the clothes and coloring.

Either way, amazing work on the Juri sprite, and very fast too!

sprites are gdlk son lol. seriously good work. Did you really get THAT hyped that you made that juri sprite that quick?

EDIT: for juri, I guess you could compare her sprite to bison. just check the screen shots of her with him in there and i suppose you could use that to try to size her up properly.

I gotta say, after seeing that gameplay vid, her leg looks really twitchy every time she goes from crouch to idle. But it might’ve been because whoever was demoing the game obviously had no idea what they were doing with the characters haha
