Usopp is the best thing from One Piece post timeskip. Truly MANSOPP. 
- How could Sabo have a newborn child with Makino when he’s been dead for 12 years
- Ace was still a small child when Makino was already a full grown adult so for them to have a child would seem weird
- Shanks seems like the most plausible father to Makino’s child
- Whose to say that’s even her child though?
- Unrelated: Why would Oda say that Robin is Russian when she gives off a heavy Hispanic vibe? Dark skin and Spanish named attacks seemed like a dead giveaway, whatever Oda is weird.

Considering that he doesn’t have red or black hair, I find the Shanks theory to plausible timeline~wise, but very weird. Oda didn’t give an inkling of hints to their relationship at all.

Oda doesn’t do randomness without reason, her holding a child on a front cover means the child is of some significance.
He can only use Close Combat and/or Double Edge if he has a Heart Scale. For right now it’s Aqua Jet, but he’s saving that move as a surprise for Luffy.
Oh and he’s Dark/Water type, so Crunch gets STAB!

I’m thinking the image of Makino and the child is just a random one like Vivi getting bossed around by Cats. Probably did it or thought of it after wife had one of his kids or something.
That being said, Garp and Shanks are the only logical fathers shown on screen with Makino, but Garp is old and Shanks is off in the New World. Ace, Luffy and Sabo, were like little brothers to her, if Sabo is alive it is possible but unlikely and Makino would be dead if she tried to pull a “Rogue” on Ace’s kid for over a year.
Only logical way for that kid to be of a named character of significance would be for it to be the child of Coby or Helmeppo, who might have went to the island to learn about Haki from Garp.
But I am still sticking to throw away illustration.
The cover is obviously of importance and not a throw away image since it’s part of the new cover story series.
